Apocalypse, I Can Modify Infinitely - Chapter 33
Miss Alice, Beatrice, and the rest of the team stood at the stairwell entrance of the third floor that leads down to the second floor. There was an electronic door there that allowed the students on the third floor to feel at ease. This electronic door had kept the zombies outside, preventing them from breaching the third floor. After some time, the zombies left to wander around other floors.
The electronic door was very sturdy and at this moment, zombies were not able to put a dent into it. If there wasn’t a shortage of food, it wouldn’t be an issue for the survivors to stay isolated from the world throughout the apocalypse. Of course, this was provided that the zombies didn’t grow any stronger. However, Alice and the others needed to open the electronic door.
“Miss Alice, you have to be careful down there.”
“Miss Alice, your safety comes first. It doesn’t matter if you don’t get the food.”
“We bid you good luck! We leave our fate in your good hands.”
“…”
The students wished them luck before Alice and the group left for their operation. Most of them were concerned about Alice, Beatrice, and the other students. However, some heartless people were more concerned about the food. The difference in temperance was obvious.
Wendy said with concern, “Miss Alice and the rest of the group, even if you didn’t get the food, it wouldn’t be a big problem. The food in the cold storage room can still last a couple of days. Safety is of the utmost importance.”
“I understand,” Alice said. “I will also do my best to get the students back safely, every single one of them.”
The other chef also expressed his worries about their safety.
“Okay, Mr. Chris, please open the electronic door.”
“Okay.” After he replied, Chris walked to the door. There were the buttons that controlled the electronic door for it to open and close. The moment he pressed it, and the electronic door slowly rose.
Alice was the first to walk out, followed by Beatrice, Gordon, and finally the other three boys. After they had gone out, Chris closed the electronic door. Many things had been discussed, and everything was carried out according to the plan that was being discussed earlier.
Chris stood at the door, holding his cell phone in his hand, paying attention to the messages that could be sent to him at any time. He maintained a high level of concentration so that he could be ready to provide support to the group at any time.
On the other side, the marching order had been predetermined. Each floor had two staircases that headed up or down. The stairwell that Alice and the team entered, was closer to the location of the cold storage room. All six of them were careful not to make too much noise and went downstairs quietly.
When Alice went down to the corner of the stairs, she was very careful. She didn’t go down immediately. Instead, she stuck her head out and observed the area through the gaps of the wall. Fortunately, there were no zombies on this side of the stairs.
She secretly let out a sigh of relief and signaled Beatrice and the others to follow her. Then, she continued to go down and reached the second floor. Alice used a small piece of mirror to refract the situation on the second floor. The mirror was taken from a make-up kit. With the help of the mirror, it gave them the advantage of being able to check ahead without exposing themselves. This tactic has increased the chances of them getting out of this alive.
With some luck, the zombies were gathered on the other end of the floor. The group then left one of the male students waiting at the entrance of the second-floor stairwell. The rest of them were quiet and paid attention to not making any noise. They used the four-person table to cover themselves so that they would not be noticed by the wandering zombies.
Seeing that they were getting closer and closer to the cold storage room downstairs, Alice’s heart started to race. Everything was going smoothly. In the end, they arrived at the door of the room according to plan. Alice stood up and pressed a button to open the door of the cold storage room, and the door slowly rose.
At this moment, a zombie noticed their movements and let out a low growl. The other zombies were also attracted by the growl and looked over at them. The zombies started to make their way towards the cold storage room as well.
While the heavy door was rising, Alice bent down and entered the cold storage room through the gap that was currently less than a person’s height. Beatrice followed closely behind while Gordon struggled a little as he crawled in. After everyone entered the cold storage room, the zombies were now less than two to three feet away from them. Alice quickly pressed the button to close the door. The door that was not fully lifted began to close.
When the door was nearly closed, with less than a foot of gap left, the first zombie that noticed them had already rushed to the door. Its shriveled arm reached in and tried to grab on its prey. Gordon swung his iron rod in his hand, his muscles bulged and filled with strength. The sound of the iron rod swinging through the air can be heard. The zombie tried to crawl in as well but was greeted by Gordon with his iron rod when it extended its head in. Its body was also sent flying and hit the wall opposite the door of the cold storage room.
Several more zombies started to crawl in. Alice used her wooden stick that was latched with a kitchen knife to push away the two zombies that were trying to come in. Beatrice was assisted by Alice as well. She held a small knife in her hand and quickly wounded one of the zombies’ arms. She then turned around and kicked the other zombie away. The other two boys were scared, but they also joined in to help their group.
After the short batte, the door was completely closed, and no zombies were able to rush in. The sturdy door had completely blocked the zombies outside. The noise made by Alice and the others attracted the more than thirty zombies on the second floor, and they crowded in front of the door of the cold storage room. Their faces were dry, pale, and hideous. They used their claws to scratch the door repeatedly and growled, but they could not break through the door of the cold storage room.
Alice, who was inside, let out a sigh of relief. At least they were halfway through the plan.
“Pack some meat and…”
The temperature in the cold storage room was very low, which was very different from the current weather outside. Alice said to everyone after taking a breather.
Gordon took off the bags that were tied to his body and the few of them began to pack things, including meat and vegetables. Then, they took another two plastic bags and filled them with grains.
“Gordon, carry what you can. Don’t let it affect your movements after you carry it,” Alice reminded Gordon.
“Got it, Miss Alice,” Gordon replied.
After he loaded it, Alice lifted it with her hand. It weighed about 50 pounds. This weight was indeed not too heavy for Gordon’s strength.
‘I hope nothing unexpected happens,’ Alice thought to herself. Then, she began executing her planned actions.
She used her phone to send a text message to Chris and the boy who had stayed at the stairway. The boy’s hands and feet were trembling. He was very scared. Considering his task, it was much relaxed and safer compared to the others. Since he volunteered for this operation, there was no backing out. He took a deep breath after receiving Alice’s text, then stomped the ground hard..
