Apocalypse: My Technological City has Infinite Upgrades - Chapter 29
Walking forward, Lorne saw a middle-aged man on the ground. He was wearing an old cotton jacket, and his face was pale. He looked like he had fainted from hunger.
The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes and secretly sized up Lorne, a hint of surprise in his eyes.
‘After waiting for so long, a fool finally came. You are a young man, after all. You do not know the dangers of society. Let me teach you today.’
Lorne wanted to help the middle-aged man up. Just as he was about to bend down, the middle-aged man suddenly took out a knife and placed it on Lorne’s neck.
Seeing that he had succeeded, the middle-aged man opened his eyes completely..
“Young man, don’t you know that in this changing world, never help other strangers casually? Hand over all the food on you and I’ll spare your life,” the middle-aged man said loudly.
Lorne looked at the middle-aged man speechlessly. He had wanted to save his life, but he did not expect such a situation.
“If you put down the knife now, I will let you leave. If you insist on threatening me, then what awaits you will be a very tragic incident.”
“Are you kidding me? My knife is on your neck and your life is in my hands, and you want to spare me? I want to see what kind of tragedy will happen.”
The middle-aged man was angry when he heard Lorne’s arrogant tone.
“Look down.” Lorne was not angry. He just said calmly to the middle-aged man.
“Look down? Will your life be saved if look down?” The middle-aged man slowly moved his gaze down from Lorne’s head.
Bang!
“Sir, please spare me, please spare me.”
In an instant, the middle-aged man knelt in front of Lorne and threw the knife to the ground.
It turned out that the middle-aged man had seen the Desert Eagle in Lorne’s right hand pointing at him. As long as he made the slightest movement, the middle-aged man believed that Lorne would pull the trigger and punch holes in his body.
“Hand over all the food on you now and I’ll spare your life.” Lorne said coldly to the middle-aged man kneeling before him.
“Sir, please spare me. Sir, please spare me. I came out to rob people because I don’t have food. If I had other solutions, I wouldn’t have done such a thing.”
The middle-aged man’s snot and tears flowed out. He kept crying and telling Lorne about his situation.
“You don’t?” Lorne’s eyes immediately glared coldly when he heard the middle-aged man say that there were no supplies.
The middle-aged man’s heart skipped a beat when he saw Lorne’s gaze. That gaze was too terrifying, as if it wanted to eat him up.
The next second, the middle-aged man decisively took out a pack of biscuits from under him and handed it to Lorne.
“Boss, this is my last supply. I’ll give it to you now. Boss, please let me go. Please let me go.” The middle-aged man handed the biscuits to Lorne and kept begging him.
“Is this really the only one?” Lorne narrowed his eyes.
The middle-aged man felt his scalp tingle from Lorne’s stare. After some thought, he took out a packaged chocolate from his cotton jacket and handed it to Lorne.
Lorne watched as the middle-aged man took out another food and could not help but feel speechless. He had only asked without expecting anything, but the guy really took out another food. This guy was very dishonest.
“Anything else?” Seeing this guy’s behavior, Lorne believed that he must be hiding other stuff as well, so he continued staring at the middle-aged man and asked.
“Boss, that’s all I have! There is nothing more, really,” the middle-aged man cried out.
“Then you can die.” After seeing that the man really had no other food, Lorne pulled the trigger and ended the middle-aged man’s life.
The middle-aged man still did not understand why the person who was talking to him earlier would suddenly kill him.
“Actually, your death was already determined from the very first moment you deceived me,” Lorne said to the middle-aged man’s corpse. Then, he took away the two bags of food the middle-aged man took out.
Lorne whistled and summoned Whitey from the sky. Whitey landed firmly on Lorne’s shoulder, and the two continued forward.
Lorne, who had taken a few steps forward, suddenly looked back and threw the bag of biscuits on the middle-aged man’s corpse.
“Take this bag of cookies as the money for the graveyard. I hope you get lucky in your next life and remember to rob a better person and a weaker one.” With that, he continued to move forward.
After Lorne left, a group of people surrounded the middle-aged man’s corpse.
“Boss, we have to avenge Simon.” It turned out that this was a gang. They relied on playing the role of starving pedestrians to gain the sympathy of the passerby.
Sometimes, they could even deceive the law-enforcement officers who were alone and take the opportunity to ambush and rob them. The leader was holding a gun.
“We hit a stone wall this time. Let’s not look for that person for now. We can’t deal with that person with our current strength.” The boss was also feeling very upset for losing a subordinate.
But he could not seek revenge on that person yet. He had clearly seen the M4A1 on Lorne’s back and the unique outfit on Lorne. In addition, this person had an eagle companion.
This leader recognized Whitey as an eagle! Lorne’s equipments and Whitey made the leader conclude that Lorne had a powerful background.
This dispelled his intention to immediately take revenge on Lorne, but this hatred was still buried in his heart.
…
Lorne and Whitey continued to head towards the city center. There were cracked cement blocks everywhere around the road. There were even some weeds growing tenaciously from the cracks in the cement blocks.
Lorne could still see abandoned vehicles on the road from time to time.
“Whitey, fly up and scout ahead. If there is any situation, come down and tell me,” Lorne said as he stroked Whitey’s head.
Originally, this stretch of the road was very wide. However, after the disaster, ruins of buildings and trash blocked his sight.
“I hope nothing unexpected happens,” Lorne thought to himself. He would not have been worried, but the mutated creatures he encountered in the forest made him stay vigilant.
Chiii
Suddenly, Whitey let out a cry and flew toward Lorne.
“Whitey, is there danger ahead?” When Lorne heard Whitey’s warning cry, he hurriedly walked to a higher slope, planning to observe what was happening ahead.
Lorne stood on the small hill and looked afar. In the distance, there was a flat land. At first glance, there was nothing unusual, but when he observed carefully, he saw that there were dense black dots moving in the land.
Lorne rubbed his eyes, wanting to see the moving things clearly.
After seeing them clearly, Lorne felt his scalp tingle. Those moving black dots were the short-legged, big-mouthed monsters he had encountered before. There were at least 200 to 300 of them, and they were covering the highway.
“We can’t go along the road. Let’s pass through the wilderness.”
Lorne’s heart was heavy. The monsters ahead were about 2000 meters away. If he continued walking along the road, he would definitely encounter those monsters.
If there were only a dozen of them, he could still kill them with his current ability. But if he was surrounded by those monsters, he would only become food for them.
“Fortunately, I was cautious and got Whitey to scout the path for me. Otherwise, if I were to blindly move along the highway, it would probably be a very dangerous situation.”
Lorne called for Whitey, and they headed towards the wilderness. He planned to move around this group of monsters and continue walking towards the city center.
