Chapter 69
Gu Wanyin woke up late, the sun already high in the sky, having stayed up playing the night before.
Cola and Hamburger had long since gotten up, eaten breakfast, and gone to school like good kids.
Stretching lazily, Gu Wanyin asked, “System, are you there?”
“I’m here, host,” the System promptly replied.
“System, I had an idea last night before falling asleep about how we could earn more points,” Gu Wanyin said.
The System perked up immediately. “What’s your idea?”
“The hotel has unlimited supplies, but right now only hotel guests can buy them,” Gu Wanyin explained. “We previously set a rule that guests can’t take supplies out to sell. But what if I could sell them outside? Or better yet, what if we open a supermarket outside, like we did in the horror world? That way, people could buy supplies at the supermarket. After all, there aren’t many hotel rooms available yet, and many people who want to stay can’t get in. This would allow people outside to eat well, and we could earn more points too.”
Gu Wanyin had meant to tell the System this idea last night but fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.
She didn’t want to be separated from the System, so she was always thinking of ways to earn more points.
The System beeped twice, then said, “That’s a great idea, but I’ll need to check with the Interstellar side first.”
The System seemed quite excited about the prospect.
“Alright, go ahead,” Gu Wanyin said.
As the System went quiet, Gu Wanyin got up and went through her morning routine. Seeing it was almost noon, she decided to skip breakfast and wait for Cola and Hamburger to return for lunch together.
After lunch, Cola and Hamburger went for their afternoon nap. Gu Wanyin cuddled French Fries, her cat, for a while.
Despite being in a new environment, French Fries had adapted well and was very affectionate towards her. Perhaps because life outside had been so harsh, even a cat could appreciate the safety and comfort of having food, water, and security here.
Gu Wanyin was eager to fatten French Fries up a bit, as its current skeletal state was truly pitiful to see.
As she was petting the cat, the System returned, sounding even more excited: “Host, I have good news! The Interstellar side approved! What’s more, they’ve added opening the supermarket to your task list, so we’ll be able to unlock new things in the hotel too!”
“Really?” Gu Wanyin was delighted but also surprised at how quickly the Interstellar side had agreed.
“Of course! Although that old doctor from 066 was against it, his objection alone wasn’t enough to stop it. Hmph.”
Gu Wanyin had a vague feeling that the Interstellar side seemed particularly lenient and indulgent towards her System.
But why? Was it because it had come first twice?
“Ding! New task unlocked: Choose any location outside the hotel to open a supermarket. Task rewards: Unlock unlimited quantities of all products in the supermarket outside the hotel; Unlock all rooms on the 10th floor of the hotel; Upgrade all rooms on the 9th floor once; Unlock a fried snack shop with unlimited ingredients; Unlock one van. Note: All rooms on the 10th floor are ultra-luxurious presidential suites, allowing a maximum of three occupants, with a room rate of 150 points per night.”
Wasting no time, Gu Wanyin immediately checked the map to choose a location for the supermarket.
She ultimately decided to open the supermarket near a large company in City A.
She chose this location because it was between the Haikang Base and another base.
After the previous leader of Haikang Base, Ye Gaofei, had died, a new leader had taken over. This time, they were behaving themselves and hadn’t come to cause trouble at the hotel.
There were still quite a few people living in Haikang Base.
The other base also had some survivors.
Opening the supermarket here would make it convenient for people from both bases to come, and it would help establish the supermarket’s reputation.
Having chosen the location, Gu Wanyin drove there.
She now had a car, and once the supermarket was open, she would get a van too.
Soon, she arrived at the chosen location for the supermarket.
A large supermarket had already appeared out of thin air.
It was similar to the one in the horror world, but with some differences.
Since this was an additional supermarket outside the hotel, it didn’t have household items and such, only food.
But for people in this post-apocalyptic world, food was the most important thing!
The store rules were similar to those in the hotel, including only being able to purchase with points, not being allowed to resell food from the supermarket, no violent behavior, no credit, respecting the store owner, etc. There were also rules about only eating food after paying for it and not lingering in the supermarket for more than 40 minutes.
After all, the supermarket was completely safe from natural disasters and zombies. Without this rule, everyone would crowd in, and it would be chaos.
The hotel had a similar rule: if you didn’t check in, you couldn’t linger in the lobby.
One key difference was that prices here were higher than in the hotel.
After all, the customers here weren’t hotel guests.
Instant noodles and bread cost 6 points, self-heating hotpots with meat were 20 points, snacks like chips were around 10 points, mineral water was 5 points, drinks were 10 points, and ice pops were also 10 points.
Other products were all more expensive than in the hotel.
There were also machines to exchange for points and places to swipe cards.
Gu Wanyin took a tour of the supermarket and was very satisfied.
“I’ll go advertise at the two nearby bases now. By the way, do we need to hire an employee for the supermarket?” she asked.
“No need,” the System replied. “If someone doesn’t pay with points, they won’t be able to take the products out of the supermarket. If this happens a second time, they’ll be blacklisted from the supermarket.”
“Alright.”
Gu Wanyin drove to Haikang Base to promote her supermarket.
She had simply named it Peace Supermarket, as the hotel had already gained some fame, so using this name could help boost the supermarket’s business through association with the hotel.
Sure enough, when many people in the base heard the name Peace Supermarket, they immediately asked if it was related to Peace Hotel.
After learning of the connection, they could hardly wait to rush to the supermarket to buy food.
Although Gu Wanyin had explained that the food in the supermarket was more expensive than in the hotel, they didn’t care about that now!
As long as they could have clean, normal food to eat, they were willing to pay a bit more!
Once new hotel rooms were unlocked, they could move into the hotel and buy cheaper food!
After promoting at Haikang Base, Gu Wanyin went to the other base. Most people there had also heard of Peace Hotel and were eager for its supplies.
Seeing their reactions, Gu Wanyin knew she didn’t need to worry about business for the supermarket. She happily drove back to the hotel.
