Aria’s Tales - Chapter 28 2.13 Unfallen The Fallen
The cities near the borders were descending into hell. At first, Brand had simply seized them and didn’t do anything else since the army that he had brought with him were a mix of angels and all types of human classes – from warriors, magicians, and archers. There was a variety. He didn’t want to leave them a bad impression as they had all came from different kingdoms be it big or small.
But had forgotten – angels were the ones who were blind to authority, and devils loved to go against the law. On the third day of the siege, the devils had started their riot.
The city was shaking from the clash of light and dark magic. While angels and devils were fighting in the sky, devils and humans were battling in the ground. It was as if a grim prophecy had come true.
Brand felt his head ached. He had already reached halfway through the main city when he was called back to the borders to take care of the rioting devils. And when he was about to coerce them into submission, the devils violently replied with a dark spell. They didn’t seem to have any plans of backing down. Even when the devils dwindled more than half, they continued to resist.
They’re wasting their life!
Brand quickly dodged an oncoming spell. Out of all the humans present, he was the only one floating in the sky. It was not an easy feat for humans to fly, so it was clear for everyone to see there that he was the strongest.
Not far away from him, there was a white long-haired man who looked like he was in his thirties. His eyes were light blue and his wings were off-white – almost a silver. “How insolent!”
The man parried with a devil knight and sent him a light spell that exploded upon contact. His sword had long been dyed red.
“Uncle, I apologize for this situation.” Brand said with a genuine apologetic expression on his face.
The man glanced at him with distaste but stopped himself from scolding him. “Finish this quick. I want my daughter back.”
Brand’s eyes glinted. He lowered his head just in time to hide it. “Yes.”
It was not part of his plan to bring this man. But since he couldn’t get the Stella Kingdom to help on time, he could only resort to asking this man for help. If one looked closely, the man had similar features to Sevianna.
This was her father.
Brand had no idea why Sevianna’s father wanted her back, but he wasn’t going to let him take her. At the moment, however, he needed all the help he can get.
“Chief Louscatt!” An angel came with a terrified expression on her face. “Th- There’s more coming.” His voice was trembling, and his face was pale.
Chief Louscatt didn’t understand the angel’s fears. Even if more devils were to come, he believed they were not worth the angel’s fears. “Hm, and what about it?” His arrogant eyes narrowed.
The angel was stumped at his Chief’s nonchalance, but his fears were real! He opened his mouth to justify himself, but he felt a quick pain from his back. His eyes widened in horror.
The angel disintegrated into particles.
The terrifying scene made the people who saw it shiver. Chief Louscatt was stunned. He furiously turned to look at the perpetrator, and he finally realized what had gotten the angel to be so scared.
A few feet above the walls of the city, there was a sea of thousands of devils floating in uniform formation. They had surrounded half of the city, while Brand’s forces occupied the other. It was no wonder that Brand needed all the help that they could get. Just seeing this army brought terror to everyone in the scene.
While the other only consisted of devils, theirs were a mixture of humans and angels. If angels alone were to have come, it would be an annihilation.
Brand saw a familiar devil fearlessly flying to their spot. His people had automatically targeted the devil, ready to release their spells at a moment’s notice. The devils behind him didn’t seem to bother to copy. Their confidence over this devil was unfathomable.
When the devil got closer, he realized why. It was him! It was the person who had taken Sevianna. Brand’s eyes glowed with hate as he glared at the approaching devil.
Likewise, Adounis did not hide his hostility to Brand. If he had not been placated by Sevianna’s indirect confession, he would not have had the idea of negotiating first but directly attacking him instead. His hate would have magnified.
Adounis stopped half a mile from them. “Greetings.” He curtly said.
His one-word greeting made Brand’s people heightened their guards. They could feel the dominance that was coming from the devil.
Chief Louscatt sneered. He raised his bloody sword and pointed the tip to Adounis. His action drew the glares from the devils afar. “If it’s negotiation you are asking, you’ll be disappointed.”
Adounis thought so too. But he had the habit of giving his enemies a warning before attacking. It was a terrible habit honestly. He nodded, expressing his understanding. “What brings you all here?”
They were all speechless. Was it not obvious? Of course, they were here to start a war! Why did this devil asked such a stupid question?
But Brand didn’t think the same. He clenched his hands into a fist and almost dug his nails to his palms. “Where is Sevianna?” His voice deepened in anger.
Chief Louscatt raised his eyebrows and immediately turned his questioning gaze to Adounis. Brand’s words told him that this man knew where his daughter was.
Adounis visibly relaxed as he thought of the girl’s blushing face. “At home.” His lips couldn’t help but curl up.
Chief Louscatt and Brand were instantly seething in anger. Brand, especially, had a distorted face. He condensed a combusting light spell in his hand and swiftly sent it to Adounis. The ball of light seemed to crackle from the power he had converged.
“Give her back!”
Adounis dodge the attack, and the ball hit the ground below. There was a loud boom before a huge crater appeared. His face when he looked at Brand was full of mockery. “Give her back? Why should I?”
Brand made another ball of light but didn’t send it this time. He personally delivered it in his hands towards Adounis, issuing the still battlefield to engulf in the fight once again.
The battle had reached a higher intensity than it already had. The city under them had long been destroyed by the constant combusting spells it had taken. Now even the debris was slowly disappearing into particles, leaving only sand behind.
The beautiful city had turned into a desert.
Adounis and Brand were in their own world, fighting a battle of life and death. Adounis’ expectation was right on the mark. Brand’s strength had frighteningly increased to match with him. He would dodge his combusting light spells, and he thought that Brand was wasting his energy. But his enemy seemed to have infinite power as he continued to shoot out spells.
Adounis raised his hand that was coated with his force and grabbed Brand’s spell. His eyes narrowed slightly as he felt his hand shaking. Rather than gradually weakening, Brand was actually getting stronger. He needed to finish him before it was too late.
Brand and Adounis’ fight grew fiercer as Adounis no longer dodged. They were both locked in combat, completely dismissing anything in their surroundings.
And Adounis had forgotten, Chief Louscatt’s existence.
The Chief was eyeing their battle, waiting for the right opportunity. And he immediately raised his sword, when he found that Brand’s attack had successfully hit Adounis.
Adounis’ battle-hardened instincts were still top notched. He made a protective force field just in time to stop Chief Louscatt’s sword, but it was not enough to stop its strength.
He was sent flying down to the ground and was dragged by the force, making a mini trench. He coughed out deep red blood.
Brand looked at Chief Louscatt with knitted brows. There were no gratefulness in his eyes but disdain instead. Still, he held himself back and didn’t comment.
He converged a brighter ball of light in his hand and dived towards Adounis. He had no intention of letting the enemy catch his breath.
“You dare!!!”
A female voice shrieked.
Brand didn’t get to Adounis’ spot but was shoved to the ground by two cold hands pushing on his shoulders. His back was smacked to the ground, and the force had brought debris to float high up before falling with a thud. When he regained his sight, he saw Sevianna’s raging eyes looking down at him.
He was stunned.
Sevianna didn’t bother with him anymore and bolted to Adounis’ side. She was feeling the fatigue from continuous rapid flight but she was more worried about Adounis’ condition. Her heart was aching when she saw Adounis’ sorry state.
He was leaning weakly at the edge of the trench he made and was drenched with his own blood. Sevianna cautiously landed beside him and carefully held his head with her trembling hands. “Adounis?” Her voice was a whisper.
His eyes seemed to have lost its light and it scared her silly. She quickly used the last of her strength to heal him.
After a few moments, he finally stirred. But Sevianna’s heart did not ease. She continued to heal him with her power despite the fact that it was decreasing at an incredible rate.
The first person Adounis saw when his blurry eyes cleared was the sight of a teary-eyed Sevianna. Her face was etched into a frown and her lips were trembling. She looked pale and weary. “Don’t cry.” He weakly lifted his hand and patted her hair. “Shh, don’t cry. Don’t cry.”
Sevianna finally could not hold back the tears in her eyes. And her healing grew intense. Why was this person still trying to comfort her when he, himself, was on the verge of dying?! She really wanted to scold him right then and there, but she couldn’t bear to.
This person’s priority was still something she could not understand. He was clearly so weak that he even had a hard time keeping his eyes open but he insisted on patting her hair.
You can do all these later so can’t you please rest!?
She wanted to shout these words but choked on them when she saw his sweet smile. She cried harder.
Adounis was panicking in his heart seeing that his comforting didn’t work. When he felt his strength was enough for him to move, after Sevianna’s meticulous healing, he brought the still crying girl into his lap. He was repeating his words, since he didn’t know what else he could do.
Lily was watching this scene feeling a sense of deja vu. The background was different, their faces were different, and the world was totally different, but the two people were still the same as they were in the last life. Thankfully, her master’s actions coincides with the what the original soul’s reaction would be. Otherwise, if her master was kicked out with her unstable emotions, she worried that this world might not have seen another day.
Their lovey-dovey time could not go for too long as the two people watching them had finally exploded.
“Sevianna! Get over here!” “Sevianna! Get away from him!”
Chief Louscatt and Brand shouted at the same time. While Chief Louscatt’s expression was filled with rage, Brand’s was overwhelmed with jealousy. This scene really made them want to rip Adounis into pieces.
Sevianna acted like she didn’t hear a single word they said as she continued to cry in Adounis’ arms while also healing him. Even though she felt that she had already hit the bottom of her power, she stubbornly held on.
Adounis felt that his physical strength had finally come back, so he placed one hand under Sevianna’s thighs and the other on her back, and carried her in a bridal style. The girl instinctively clutched on his shirt, while her lightly glowing hands continued to shine. It warmed his heart.
Adounis kissed Sevianna’s knitted brows and her teary eye. He, too, completely ignored the two volcanoes that were glaring at them.
