Army of True Salvation (English) - Chapter 189:I Don't Care if I Die
Sheloah gathered her strength and ran to where her mother was, lying beside the corpse of the zombie who bit her.
“Mom!”
Sheloh was crying uncontrollably as she carried her mother in her arms. Her mother was obviously in pain as she was slowly turning into a zombie.
She struggled to hold Sheloah’s cheek, wiping her tears away. “No, baby… don’t cry.”
“You could have… ran away,” Sheloah said in between sobs and her mother tried her best to smile.
“I told you, didn’t I? That I would protect you. And you being here with me now won’t protect you,” she said and tears escaped from her eyes. “I’ll turn into a zombie soon and I don’t want to hurt you. Don’t make me hurt you, Sheloah.”
“Mom, don’t say that. I—”
“Don’t make me hurt the only daughter that I have. You’re my only child and you have to live.”
Sheloah cried as she watched her mother change slowly. Her skin was turning blackish-blue. Her eyes were changing, turning red and white at the same time. Her saliva was even bubbling and coming out from her mouth.
“Mom!”
Sheloah’s mother felt strength rushing inside her body. “I love you, Sheloah.”
“Mom?”
Her mother sat up, quickly got Sheloah’s emergency gun from her waistband then pushed her daughter away.
“Someone, get her away from here now!”
Sheloah looked at her mother who now had the tip of the gun against her head.
She decided to end her own life before turning into a zombie. She did not want to harm the others; she did not want to harm her own daughter—her one and only child.
“Mom! No!”
The sound of a bullet was heard and everyone looked at the direction where it came from.
Everyone saw that Sheloah’s mother killed herself before she even turned into a zombie.
Sheloah still sat on the ground, crying loudly and uncontrollably, making the zombies approach her.
‘I don’t care if I die. I don’t care if I have to die now…’
“Sheloah, get the hell out of there now!”
Jun shot the zombies near her niece as he shouted at her to come to her senses.
“Sheloah!”
Isobel was about to rush in but she was stopped by Shannara.
“Don’t! You don’t know how to fight!”
Isobel was crying already. “But my best friend is in danger!”
Shannara’s eyes reddened. “I know but we’ll find a way!” Shannara kept shooting the zombies near Geof and Kreiss.
Veon’s veins looked like it was about to pop because of his frustration. He kept shooting zombies as he worried to death about Sheloah.
“Dammit, Sheloah! Come here!”
Kreiss thought quickly as he kept slashing the zombies around them. He suddenly came up with an idea and ran when he found the opportunity to do so.
But he ran to the opposite direction of where Sheloah is, making Geof look at him in frustration.
“Are you stupid!? She’s not there!”
Kreiss ignored him. He ran as quickly as he could and Veon and the others noticed him going to them. This made Veon look at him as if he was the stupidest person in the world.
“What the hell are you doing!? Sheloah’s—”
Kreiss quickly climbed on the motorcycle and revved its engine. He sped up his motor and drove to where Sheloah is. This made everyone surprised. They did not expect him to plan this all along.
“Kreiss, get Sheloah, please!”
‘I know…’
Kreiss shouted, telling them the instructions. “Everyone, fall back now! We have to leave as soon as I get her!”
Kreiss stopped his motor, picked up Sheloah’s katana and hanged it on his back along his. He saw how Sheloah was devastated about her mother’s death. Her body was still trembling and was unwilling to move.
“Sheloah, let’s go.”
Sheloah shook her head violently. “No! I’m not leaving my mother behind!”
Kreiss ignored the girl as he carried her away from her mother. This made Sheloah furious.
“No! Let me go!”
Kreiss put her down on the motorcycle and he looked at her, already angry.
“Your mother wouldn’t want this. She risked her life for you. If you don’t want her death to be in vain, then you have to leave. That’s what she wanted. For you to be safe!”
Sheloah’s eyes were red. Tears uncontrollably escaped from her eyes then she went quiet. Kreiss quickly sat on the motorcycle after tying their katanas at the front. He turned on the engine then spoke.
“Hang on tight. I’m going faster than usual.”
Sheloah still cried as she embraced Kreiss for safety. When Kreiss was already assured, he drove away.
The others were already inside and on the vehicle as they quickly escaped from the mall. The sniper team noticed that there were some zombies following them so they shot them accurately from afar.
Erick got his walkie talkie. “Prepare in a few minutes. Go sit along with the groceries,” he said and John replied.
“Roger.”
—
After some time, they drove slowly when there were no longer zombies around them.
Sheloah tightened her grip on Kreiss’ waist as she cried on his back.
“Kreiss… my mom is gone,” she said, her voice being muffled by Kreiss’ back.
“I’m sorry,” the boy said weakly, feeling pained to see the girl he loves in despair.
“I love her so much…”
Kreiss held Sheloah’s hands with his hand to comfort her.
“I know. And she loves you, too.”
The girl continued crying as they went back home in silence.
