Army of True Salvation (English) - Chapter 200:Tough Choice
Erick looked at his map. “Okay, we’re almost there,” he said and everyone’s eyes were glued to the front.
Erick reminded them once more that the strike team and the sniper team should be the ones heading to the meeting place first since the sniper team would go to a higher location to shoot down zombies from afar. Once everyone had gathered already, everyone would be heading to NAIA airport.
The two main teams already arrived at the meeting place and they saw that there was a rooftop present. As they climbed up, luckily, there aren’t much zombies so the strike team could easily attack them.
They arrived at the rooftop and the sniper team quickly went to their positions and saw everyone running to the meeting place through their scopes.
The strike team quickly ran down the stairs to wait for upcoming zombies so that they could attack them for the other group’s safety.
Erick came with them and the pilot was left with the sniper team on the rooftop. The two of them were discussing the actions in boarding the plane and how they’ll locate it.
Sheloah looked at her uncle and noticed that he was distraught about the loss of his family. His wife, and his child. Sheloah frowned when she remembered that only him, his cousin who’s with the other group, and then her, were the ones left in their family.
The girl approached her uncle and she tapped his shoulder, getting his attention. She gave him a small smile. “I’m sure that they’re watching over us,” she said and her uncle did his best to smile for his niece not to worry.
“Thank you. Even though my eldest son and you are the only ones left, I’ll keep things going. We’ll be sticking with each other ’til the end,” he said and this made Sheloah teary-eyed once more.
His uncle touched Sheloah’s eyes, wiping her tears away. “Don’t cry… we have to focus, remember,” he said and the girl nodded. “They will always be inside our hearts,” he added and Sheloah smiled.
Jun approached the two who were discussing about the plan and joined them. Sheloah, on the other hand, approached the two boys, Geof and Kreiss, who are guarding the front.
“Are you okay, princess,” Kreiss asked and Sheloah nodded.
Sheloah instinctively looked at him and felt a bit embarrassed.
“What’s wrong?”
Kreiss showed a bitter smile then he shook his head. “Nothing. I won’t be waiting for your reply anymore,” he added, making Sheloah curious.
“What do you mean?”
Kreiss pointed her neck and Sheloah remembered that the necklace was no longer with her.
“A-ah… the necklace, I must’ve left it—”
The boy did not let her finish. He showed her the necklace that was kept inside his pocket.
“You don’t have to explain,” he said and Sheloah went quiet. “I wish you all the best with Veon after this,” he added and Sheloah coughed.
“Y-you knew?”
Kreiss chuckled.
“It doesn’t matter. If you’re happy with him, then I have to let you go,” he said and Sheloah looked down.
“I’m sorry.”
Kreiss shook his head. “Never mind. Let’s just focus on what we have to do,” he said and the girl looked front, with Geof looking at them, confused.
‘What’s this now?’
—
Veon’s group, together with Shannara and Isobel, hid behind a truck as the others reloaded their guns. Isobel was also treating the others as quickly as she could while Veon was their lookout.
“Are you done?”
Isobel grunted as she was fixing up the wound on their classmate’s arm. “Almost…”
“We have to leave in a minute,” he said and the moment he said this, Isobel was already finished.
They were already running towards their destination and most of them were surprised of what happened.
Suddenly, a zombie jumped on one of their members and bit him so suddenly. This led the others with no choice but to leave him behind.
It was a tough choice for them, but they had to do it.
“Dammit… we lost another one,” Isobel mumbled to herself as they continued running.
Shannara looked at Veon’s left side when she noticed a different movement. She quickly got her gun and shot two times on Veon’s left side.
Veon was surprised when the zombie fell in front of him, unaware that there was an enemy beside him. Luckily, Shannara was there to avoid a tragic incident.
“Thank you,” he thanked her and Shannara nodded as they continued running.
“Shannara, look out!”
Isobel shouted once the zombie jumped from her right side.
“Ah!”
The zombie toppled Shannara down, making the others stop from running. She was struggling from the strength of the zombie on top of her so all she could do was play it on the defense.
“Shan, hold still!”
“Hurry up!”
Shannara did her best to keep still as the zombie struggled on top of her just to bite her. Veon aimed the zombie’s head and had killed it in one shot accurately, making the zombie cough out blood. A few of it came inside Shannara’s mouth, making her vomit as soon as she stood up.
“Shannara!”
Isobel was about to approach her when she noticed this and it made Shannara look back at them with anger in her eyes.
“Shannara?”
Everyone got surprised when Shannara put the tip of the gun against her head.
“What the hell are you doing,” Veon said and Shannara warned them with her free hand.
“If you come closer, I’ll kill myself!”
Isobel, Veon, and their other classmate stood still as they watched Shannara closely. The girl closed her eyes then she started counting in her head.
‘One… two… three… four… five… six… seven… eight… nine… ten…’
Shannara opened her eyes then sighed. Afterwards, she kept her gun in her waistband and looked at them.
“I’m sorry. I swallowed a bit of the zombie’s blood. I wondered if I would turn into one if ever a person swallowed a zombie’s blood,” she said and the others sighed, now understanding why she was rash.
“I see. Then we rule that one out. You scared me,” Isobel said and Shannara looked at them apologetically.
“I’m sorry. We had to be safe than never,” she added and the others nodded.
“Okay. Now let’s go,” Veon said then the four of them continued running, going to their destination.
