Army of True Salvation - Chapter 14:How Can They Leave?
When they were already in front of the door, Sheloah looked at the people with her.
“First aid kit,” she said as Tyler held his bag, indicating that the first aid kit was already inside his bag.
“Substitute weapons?” Her comrades then showed the knives tied to their belts. Sheloah then nodded then reminded them one last thing.
“Phones in silent mode.” Her comrades then checked their phones to see if they were in silent mode.
“Last resort,” Veon said as Sheloah showed him her gun and Veon did the same. They only decided to use the gun when it was really needed.
“If you think you forgot something, do it now,” Sheloah said then Tyler suddenly reacted.
“I need to speak to Alice.” They all gave him a slight smile before he ran towards Alice.
Tyler was deeply in love with Alice, their classmate who was very smart and friendly.
Sheloah felt a little bit naughty as she pulled Veon. “Let’s watch them,” she suggested and Veon looked at her, a little bit surprised.
“What? No way! It’s eavesdropping, you know,” he said as Sheloah rolled her eyes at him. Veon’s such a good boy compared to the others.
“Come on! I just want to feel fuzzy, you know? Watching a little romance in a zombie apocalypse wouldn’t hurt,” she said as she grabbed Veon with her left arm, and Josh with her right.
“Crazy,” Josh just commented as he squinted his eyes at the girl.
“Alice, we’re leaving. I don’t know if… we’ll return,” said Tyler as the three of them took a peek.
Alice nodded slowly. “You guys take care. Especially you, Tyler. You’re the clumsiest of them all,” she said and Sheloah was giggling silently because it was indeed true that he was the clumsiest of the group.
“I’ll try my best to return. It’s not safe. I promise that I’ll protect you no matter what,” Tyler said and Sheloah smacked both Veon and Josh when she heard the romantic line of Tyler. The two boys just glared at Sheloah.
Suddenly, the three of them were on alert when they heard Tyler and Alice bid each other farewell.
“Guys, let’s go back! Tyler’s coming back,” Josh said as the trio ran towards the entrance of the rooftop. The moment Tyler arrived, they acted as if nothing happened.
“Ah… are we all ready,” Sheloah asked normally and then Tyler nodded.
The boys pushed the water drums away from the door then Sheloah held the doorknob. She was hesitant for a bit because she thought the possibility of not returning back once they leave the school.
Their plan was to go to the guard’s house, get the car key, then will run towards the canteen where the service car was parked.
Once they leave the school…
They won’t be able to return for the meantime.
“Let’s try our best not to panic. We’re all in this together,” Sheloah said, encouraging her teammates. She wanted to get courage from them as well so she said this.
Sheloah now opened the door and closed it. The four of them walked down the stairs slowly. They were near the school’s clinic when they noticed that there were a number of zombies.
The four of them hid behind the nearest wall. “What now,” Josh asked as Sheloah took a small peek.
The zombies were walking slowly while the others were just standing. They were far away from the stairs going towards the main building near the covered court.
“Hit and run,” Sheloah whispered to them. “We can’t kill them all. There are only four of us. All we have to do is run and attack if needed,” she added and her comrades nodded at her.
“Let’s just make it quick,” Veon said and they all looked in front of them.
They walked slowly then they started running as quietly as they could. They got the attention of some zombies and they started walking fast towards the four students. They only hit the ones near them then continued running.
They climbed up the stairs going to the main building then they saw eight zombies along the way. Sheloah looked at the boys with her and with just one look, they already understood what she meant.
They still ran and only prioritized on hitting zombies that were near them. Even though that they did not completely kill the zombie, just immobilizing them was enough for their escape.
They were already at the exit of the main building. The four of them hid in one corner and they were in it for a big surprise.
There were a lot of zombies in the playground near the covered court. All of the classroom’s door were opened and probably all of the students except their class already turned into zombies. They even saw some of their teachers turned into zombies.
Sheloah took a deep breath. “What now,” she mumbled and Veon went beside her, taking a peek for a clearer view.
“They are too many. We can’t do this,” Veon said as the four of them sighed.
There were maybe over a hundred zombies outside. Even four people couldn’t handle this situation! How can they escape now?
‘We can’t be trapped here!’
Sheloah was determined once again to look for another alternative.
She looked up and saw that there was a pipe near the roof. Sheloah thought of passing through the roof again and would look for a safe place where they could go down.
She looked at the three boys with her. “Let’s climb up again. There’s a pipe. Once we reach the roof, we walk and look for a way to go to the playground,” she said and the three nodded.
They all walked slowly towards the pipe and Sheloah held it. She gave the boys a warning as she squinted her eyes. “I’m climbing first. No peeking,” she said and the boys were suddenly taken aback.
‘Why would we peek now that there’s a serious situation!?’ The boys thought in unison.
The moment Sheloah was on top, she helped Veon and the others up. They walked slowly on the roof and they saw another pipe going down towards the playground at the end of the roof. While they were walking, some zombies noticed them and were looking up. Their sense of hearing was really sensitive for hearing such faint footsteps!
They already reached the end of the rooftop and they climbed down the pipe, leading them to the other side of the roof near the playground.
They were taken aback once more when they landed. They got a clearer view of what was happening around them.
There were a lot of zombies scattered and they noticed that their assumption of the zombies’ population was just a small portion of what they saw today! The song from Ace’s phone was still heard in the covered court that’s why it still attracted a number of zombies in the area.
“Why isn’t his phone dead yet,” Josh commented but the three just ignored him.
Sheloah was surprised as she pointed at the gate. They also noticed that their school’s gate was wide open, giving entrance to the zombies outside that could hear the music in the covered court.
How can they leave?
