Army of True Salvation - Chapter 147:Knight in Shining Armor
They heard a woman crying as they watched Geof slowly making his way up the tree until they saw a woman crouching. Tyler had a bad feeling about this. He wanted Geof to stop.
“Geof, don’t. Leave her alone,” he warned him but he didn’t listen.
“A woman’s crying, Tyler. What if she needed help,” he said and Tyler rolled his eyes at him even though Geof could not see him.
“We don’t even know who that is! I don’t feel good about this, Geof. Just stop.”
Again, Geof did not listen to him. He stopped climbing the moment he was near the unknown woman. He parted some twigs and leaves away so he could see the woman. He noticed that the girl was bathed in blood, and that she was crying near the edge of a thick branch where she sat. She was rocking her body back and forth, making her look insane. This made Tyler worry more.
“Geof, go down,” he instructed but Geof fell on deaf ears once more.
“Hello?”
The moment the woman heard him, everyone was shocked when she suddenly looked back.
“Ah!”
The woman shouted at the top of her lungs. Geof was surprised and it was obvious in his expression that he was scared of what he saw. The woman was bloody and she had messy hair. She had yellowish red eyes and her mouth was opened wide.
“Geof, run away!” Dannie shouted over the walkie-talkie but even without it, Geof could hear her due to the loudness of her scream.
Is this a new type of zombie?
Geof started escaping from the zombie but the woman was quick enough to catch up to him. The zombies that they’ve encountered had no capability to climb up the tree but why is this zombie different? Do some zombies have the ability to think?
“I can’t shoot,” John said, quite frustrated. “The zombie’s too quick, and I might hit Geof!”
Tyler looked at Geof who’s now desperately running away from the woman zombie. He could not even use his katana because once he stopped to use it, the zombie might bite him. John couldn’t also shoot because if he did, even with his skill, he might kill Geof in one wrong move!
They were all surprised when Geof suddenly fell down from the tree, getting the attention of the majority of zombies.
“I need help here!”
He started running away from the zombies again. They were surprised once more when they saw that the woman zombie chased and caught him. The zombie sat on top of him, almost biting him. It made the crowd panic more.
Was crying her way of distraction to allure her prey?
John looked at Tyler. “We need to go down and assist him,” he said and Dannie’s eyes doubled in size.
“I’d go, too!”
“No. You stay here,” he said, feeling protective of his daughter. He gave off the vibe of being a daughter’s knight in shining armor.
“I need my M16,” John said and one parent who helped in shooting zombies gave him the gun he requested. He added a bayonet at the end and he looked through the scope of the gun for him to have an accurate shooting. Suddenly, a plan hit Tyler.
Tyler got his pistol then he started telling his new formulated plan. “We have to go down. You’ll be long ranged, and I will be the bait this time. Once the zombies are far from Geof, shoot the woman on top of him,” he said as they looked at Geof struggling from the hold of the woman zombie. The zombie was obviously quicker and stronger.
John nodded at Tyler. “Your plan is great,” he said as he loaded his gun properly. “Distract the zombies farther away from Geof so that I could focus my shot on the zombie on top of him. Once done, the three of us will climb the tree and I will signal Dannie to throw the grenade,” he said and he looked at his daughter. “Do not hesitate. Understood,” he added and Dannie nodded at him slowly but panic was evident on her face.
“Please be careful,” Dannie said as she gave her father a hug. “You’re the only family I got left,” she added and John hugged her daughter back, smiling at her.
“It’s me you’re talking about. Trust me. We’ll finish this soon,” he said finally and the two boys stood up and ran down to help Geof.
