Army of True Salvation - Chapter 148:Life is No Game
They saw Geof from afar but he was still struggling from the zombie’s hold. Tyler looked at John and both of them understood each other in just one look. John hid himself behind a bush, not visible to the zombies as he waited for Tyler to do his part.
Tyler took a deep breath before he shouted at the zombies to get their attention. “Hey, dimwits!” The zombies looked at him and they started going to his direction. This made Geof look at him, frustrated.
“What the hell are you doing, is this your death wish!?” Tyler ignored Geof as he started running towards the right side of the area and the zombies followed him. The others that stayed behind were being shot by the parents and students from the rooftop.
Tyler looked at his right and noticed that there were seven zombies. By his left, there were six. There were quite a lot of zombies chasing him, but he won’t stop. Tyler decided that it was now or never. If the plan won’t succeed, they would die. One mistake could make a big difference.
He stopped in his position and he started shooting down zombies accurately as he shouted to give a signal. “Now!”
John aimed at the zombie on top of Geof. Geof noticed what was happening so he kept his patience and he focused on his strength to keep the zombie far from his face.
John held the trigger of his M16 then shouted. “Geof, mind your head!” Geof did as he was told and the bullet flashed in a second. It was a matter of life and death.
The zombie on top of Geof died and this made Tyler stop in his tracks, relieved that Geof’s safe, but he completely forgot about the zombies that were in front of him.
“Tyler, run!”
John shouted and it woke Tyler up. Geof appeared right in front of him and he killed the zombies near him. He grabbed Tyler by the wrist and the three of them dashed towards the tree.
Tyler looked at Geof. “You’re alive!”
Geof looked at him, quite annoyed. “Are you stupid? Don’t think about that. We have to run!”
The three of them continued running until they reached the tree. They then started climbing up when a zombie almost grabbed John’s leg. Geof quickly sliced the zombie’s arm off then Tyler proceeded to grabbing John by the arm to help him up. The moment they reached the top, Geof got the walkie-talkie from his pocket and spoke.
“Dannie, do it now!”
“On it,” she replied and they saw her stand from where they are. She pulled the switch of the grenade, threw it, and the boys held each other for cover.
The moment the grenade hit its targets, it exploded. There was smoke everywhere and it made it difficult for them to observe their location. The three of them started coughing and noticed that it was already quiet.
Was it a success?
The smoke disappeared and the boys looked at their surroundings. They noticed that all zombies were no longer present and that the corpse just laid there on the ground. It looked like an aftermath of a war, but this meant that their plan did indeed work!
The boys smiled at each other and when Tyler shouted in joy, everyone above did so as well. Their hard work paid off!
The people from the rooftop ran downstairs to celebrate with them as if a graduation had started. Tyler did not expect that his plan would work out!
Life is no game indeed and that they only live once. In real life, there are no revives, no save points, and no restarts. He realized that they had to keep fighting for the hope of their future.
