Army of True Salvation - Chapter 16:Welcome to "Zombie Land"
There were some zombies attempting to climb the roof where the students were because the roof was a little low. Josh prioritized on hitting or kicking the zombies so they could fall down once they try to climb up.
Veon successfully entered the guard’s house. The moment he entered, he quickly closed and locked the door and started searching around for the key and for other possible things he could bring. Sheloah shot the zombies near the guard’s house so when Veon gets out, his surroundings would be clear.
Once the zombies lessened, Sir Jim rushed to where the students were and then started to help them attack the zombies in their area.
They were at it for two minutes and even though the time was short, it was still enough to make them tired.
Sheloah noticed the car entering the school. It started running over the nearby zombies which helped the students and their teacher in clearing up the area near the guard’s house.
“Tito!” Sheloah shouted as she saw her uncle.
Sir Jim looked at the students with him. “Distract the zombies while I get your family,” he said then he quickly jumped down and led Sheloah’s family towards the rooftop.
They did what they can to distract the zombies. They were making noises and were attacking them from time to time.
Sheloah suddenly saw Veon coming out from the guard’s house and noticed that he had brought with him a gun and a pouch. Veon started shooting zombies along the way as he ran towards the service car of the school near the canteen.
Sheloah looked at Tyler and Josh. “Let’s go down now!”
They had to act quickly. Josh, Tyler, and Sheloah quickly jumped down and ran towards Sir Jim. They started attacking the zombies near them as Sir Jim led Sheloah’s family quickly on the roof. They started running as the three students still continued to attack the zombies.
Sheloah’s eyes landed on her mother. Her mother saw her right away and had the urge to approach her but they both knew that this was not yet the time to do so.
‘Wait for me, mom…’
Sheloah’s uncle stepped out of the car and started shooting zombies as well. Sheloah looked back and saw that Veon already entered the service car and revved its engine. Their school’s service car was a white jeepney that could have 21 people as passengers.
“Loah, hurry up! Your teacher and I will follow,” he said as he threw a pouch to Sheloah and she successfully caught it. Her eyes grew wide when she realized that she was holding a grenade.
“I—I don’t know how to use this!” Sheloah stammered and Josh and Tyler looked at her surprised.
“Grenade!?” They sounded like an amused Tweedledee and Tweedledum.
Her uncle just continued shooting zombies as he instructed his niece. “Just twist and pull the pin! Throw it once the zombies created one big group,” he shouted as Tyler and Josh ran towards Sheloah.
His uncle ran towards them to protect them. Sheloah held the grenade tightly as her heart beat faster. They were waiting for the perfect time to throw the grenade. They were waiting for the zombies to create one big group.
It was like waiting for their death if they did not have a plan!
“Throw at my signal,” his uncle said and Sheloah just nodded nervously.
Veon drove and parked the service car where his other comrades were. He got out the car and his eyes widened when he saw what Sheloah was holding. He also saw that the zombies were now in a frenzy, running towards them.
“Are we committing suicide!? What are you waiting for?!”
Sheloah just shook his head at Veon as she patiently waited for her uncle’s signal. Sheloah’s hands were trembling by the second.
‘Don’t pressure me!’
“Shit, shit shit!”
Tyler and Josh started chanting loudly as the zombies increased in number and it irritated Sheloah.
“Would you two shut up!?” The both suddenly stopped.
“Now!” Sheloah’s uncle shouted.
She twisted the pin, pulled it, then threw it towards the big group zombies. They all ran and hid behind the service car, which Veon luckily parked behind them for cover. The moment they hid behind the service car, the grenade exploded and it rang loudly in their ears.
The ground shook a little, which was caused by the impact of the explosion. There were pebbles and dusts that flew in their surroundings the moment the grenade exploded.
They hid behind the car for a while, as they adjusted themselves after the explosion. The ringing in their ear slowly fading.
‘What happened? Is it over?’
‘Is it safe?’
Their surroundings were silent and they all stood up slowly.
As the smoke around them started to clear up, someone suddenly tapped Sheloah’s shoulder.
“Ah!”
She screamed as she reflexively punched the one who touched her. She was surprised when she noticed that she had punched their teacher.
Sir Jim held his jaw. “Sheloah, I’m not a zombie,” he complained and Sheloah sighed.
“I’m sorry, I was startled,” she said and Sheloah’s uncle spoke.
“Let’s go. Everyone’s here,” he said and they all nodded at him.
Sir Jim and Sheloah’s uncle ran towards the other car while the four ran towards the service car. Veon sat on the driver’s seat and Sheloah sat beside him. Tyler and Josh entered the back and they shut the door.
They looked at their surroundings and noticed that there were a few zombies who were not affected by the grenade. Veon started the car and he drove, following the car in front of them.
Sheloah looked at their school from the side mirror.
Welcome to “Zombie Land.”
