Army of True Salvation - Chapter 17:I Hate Our Uniform!
“Veon, you drive too fast!”
Sheloah complained when she lightly bumped her head on the glass in front. It was enough for her to feel pain.
“Then wear your seatbelt! You know we have to rush,” Veon said as Sheloah put her seatbelt on.
Sheloah looked at the rearview mirror and saw Josh and Tyler holding on to dear life on the metal bars connected to the car’s ceiling. “Are you guys okay?”
“I wish we’re in SM already so we won’t feel like hamsters,” Josh said loudly as both of his hands now held the metal bars.
“So this is what a hamster felt inside the ball when we shake it,” Tyler said and Sheloah just sighed.
It was indeed a bumpy ride for the two.
Sheloah looked at Veon nervously. “Are you okay, Veon?” She knew that he wasn’t really okay, but she still asked anyway.
“No, I’m nervous,” he said and Sheloah put her hand on his shoulder, comforting him. She was worried about her friend.
“It’s about your parents… isn’t it?”
When Sheloah said this, Veon suddenly sped the car up and Sheloah held the handle above her head and Josh and Tyler held the metal bars tightly. His action was enough to answer Sheloah’s question.
They can’t blame Veon for acting like this. Sheloah’s family was safe and sound. They didn’t know if the families of their classmates were safe, too, or if they arrived on the rooftop as well. Veon’s family was still in their house and their status if they were still okay until now were not yet known.
Sheloah closed her eyes and prayed. ‘I do hope they are safe. Veon and I will return for them. I promise, Veon and I will return.’
Sheloah’s phone suddenly buzzed and she immediately answered the call.
“Hello?”
She heard some gunshots at the other end of the call.
“This is Sir Jim,” he said and Sheloah heard more gunshots which made her a bit nervous.
“Where are you guys?”
“Did you guys fall behind? We’re almost at SM. We’re here in Session Road, near Porta Vaga,” Sir Jim answered and Sheloah looked outside her window.
From where they are, SM is at the top while Porta Vaga was in the middle of Session Road. Indeed, they are almost near SM mall.
“We’re near. We just passed by Greenwich[1], lower Session,” Sheloah said and she heard a sigh.
“We stopped for a while to shoot zombies to clear your way. Once we see your car, we continue onwards. Your uncle can’t hold on much longer and we can’t leave you guys behind either. Some of you have guns so use it.” Sir Jim hung up.
“Veon, where’s your gun,” Sheloah asked then Veon gave it to her with her free hand.
“What now,” Tyler asked as Sheloah rolled down her window.
She let out half of her body and started shooting zombies. The wind was strongly blowing her hair so it made it difficult for her to accurately aim the zombies.
She went back inside and sat down. “Do you still have to ask what to do?” She tied her hair into a ponytail. She looked back and looked at the two boys. “Go kill zombies!”
The two of them looked at each other. Tyler slowly went towards the back door and opened it. They were suddenly surprised when there were some zombies catching up to them. They started shooting zombies as well. Sheloah let half of her body out again and shot zombies upfront and at the side.
Veon took a swift look on his left. “Sheloah, I’m having trouble here.”
Some zombies were already bumping their bodies on the left side of the car, making Veon distracted from his driving. The zombies were hammering their bodies on Veon’s door! Sheloah tried her best to shoot the zombies on the left side, but it was difficult for her to do so. She could only do this much!
She wondered out loud. “If I were to stay on top of the car and shoot from there, would I fall off?”
Veon looked at Sheloah from the corner of his eye.
“Are you insane!? Duh! I’m driving fast, remember?”
Sheloah rolled her eyes at him.
“There are a lot of zombies on your side. Some were able to catch up to us, too. I need to shoot some of them down. Tyler and Josh are already focused at the back. I need to defend our left and right sides,” Sheloah reasoned and Veon sighed.
“So you’re going up,” he said and Sheloah looked at Veon as if he said something stupid.
“Duh! Or else, we all die,” she answered and Veon let out a heavy sigh.
Sheloah was determined to go up. She slowly let out half of her body as her arm reached the metal rod on the car’s roof. Once she got a hold of it, she carefully climbed up the roof by stepping on the window.
She successfully reached the roof but the moment she was on top, she was struggling to keep her balance. Both of her hands held the metal rods to her left and right.
She knelt on the car roof when suddenly the strong wind blew her skirt up. She reflexively held it down with her hand, while the other held on the metal rod of the car.
‘I hate our uniform!’
