Army of True Salvation - Chapter 174:Why is Sheloah Involved?
Kreiss is inside the room with Dannie and his uncle, John. They were having breakfast together, earlier than the others.
Kreiss hadn’t seen Sheloah and the others since last night. It already seemed that John and Dannie knew that he was Sheloah’s kidnapper.
—
“Kreiss, explain why you did such a thing. Why did you kidnap Shelaoh,” John asked his nephew then Kreiss just shrugged his shoulders as his answer.
“Tito, I’m sorry but I really couldn’t say.”
It was Dannie’s turn to speak. “Then kuya, why are you in our old house,” she asked but Kreiss’ gaze was still directed at his uncle.
Kreiss took the family gem from his pocket and this made John and Dannie’s eyes open wide. John didn’t expect to see this gem again, especially at this situation.
“Why did you leave our family crest behind? Didn’t auntie own this until she passed away? Why didn’t you get it, instead, you like threw it away?”
The teenager said questions after the other and John just looked at him, hesitant to answer.
Dannie approached Kreiss. “That’s the family gem,” she said then she held it. “Kuya, isn’t this what the male descendant gives to his wife,” she asked and Kreiss nodded, answering her question.
“Since Tito John had a daughter, he couldn’t give it to you. The last one to receive this was your mother. When she passed away, the gem came back to uncle,” Kreiss added and Dannie grew more curious as she looked at the gem.
“They couldn’t give me the gem either. My mom married a foreigner and it was strictly the tradition to only pass it to male descendants who carry the family name,” Kreiss said finally and Dannie nodded, now understanding why neither of them got the gem.
John approached the two. “So that’s what you came looking for, that gem,” he asked and Kreiss nodded. “Then why is Sheloah involved,”
Kreiss looked at his uncle seriously. “I can’t say that yet, but bottomline is, I just wanted to prove something,” he said then his uncle sighed, knowing that he can’t extract any information from his nephew.
“You punk… fine,” John said then he sighed. “You may have the gem,” he added and the two teenagers were surprised.
“Dad, why,” Dannie asked, knowing full well the tradition of the family.
“What’s the purpose of the gem, Dannie? We’re the only ones left in our clan. It’s of no use to us. I could bluntly even say that Kreiss came back for a worthless thing,” John said as he shook his head in disappointment. He considered Kreiss wasting his time for something useless. “Tradition is of no use now,” he said finally.
John walked to his daughter, got the gem, then gave it to Kreiss. “It’s yours. It may seem useless knowing it now but this gem was used to propose to women as tradition. But your purpose of wanting the gem and having effort to retrieve it… that, I don’t know your reasons,” he said and Kreiss looked at his uncle.
“Why are you saying this,” Kreiss asked and John gave him a smirk.
“Proposing to Sheloah in a zombie apocalypse? How childish of you in a very dire situation,” he said, whispering to his nephew, leaving his daughter curious about their conversation.
Kreiss felt his face heat up in embarrassment.
