Army of True Salvation - Chapter 201:Army of True Salvation
They already saw Veon’s group approaching them but luckily, there weren’t zombies following them. Once they regrouped, they all hid behind a vehicle to talk.
“Give me a report. Why are you the only guys left,” Erick asked and the other teenagers frowned when they realized that there were only four students who came.
And not even one parent survived.
“We regrouped with Veon. Most of the students couldn’t make it because of fatigue. The parents sacrificed themselves for the sake of the other students. Only one from group 2 survived. This boy with us,” Shannara said and when she spoke, there were footsteps heard.
Jun took a peek and noticed that it was his eldest son together with two more students and Tyler.
“We’re here!”
The moment he spoke, Ivan and the others ran to them and hid behind the car with them. Isobel noticed that the two students were injured so Sheloah and her proceeded to treating them as they talk about the next plans.
“Treat them first, I’m okay,” Tyler said and the girls nodded. Jun looked at his son then spoke.
“I’m relieved you made it,” Jun said Ivan looked at him. “What’s your status,” he asked and Ivan was about to cry.
“Most of them died and became a zombie. I was cornered but luckily, the two of them saw me and helped me. As we ran, we saw Tyler all alone and we regrouped. We prioritized our escape since most of the others couldn’t make it. Only the four of us made it here alive,” he said and his father put his hand on his shoulder to comfort Ivan.
“You did well,” he said and he looked at the three boys. “Thank you so much for protecting my son,” he added and the three gave him a small smile.
Erick sighed. “We’ve been reduced greatly. Our number as of the moment is 17,” he said and the others looked at him, waiting for his orders.
“What now? With this can we survive,” Kreiss asked and Erick looked at him seriously.
“We have to,” he said and everyone went quiet.
The sniper team and the pilot went down and saw them talking with each other.
“What now? We’ve been reduced to such extent. We tried everything we could,” John said and Dannie sighed as Ashley reloaded his gun.
“Now that we’re all here, all we have to do is run for it until we reach the plane,” Erick said and everyone went quiet, feeling nervous.
“Let’s go,” Jun said and everyone stood up, running towards the entrance of NAIA airport.
Now there set up is the strike team in front of them, the pilot in the middle, and those with the gun surrounded the sides and the back so that the medic and the pilot are well protected.
When they were running, they saw the entrance of NAIA airport opened and that there were zombies roaming around. Once they entered, the zombies saw them and started chasing them.
“Climb up the stairs!”
The pilot kept shouting where they had to go, giving them directions. The others did their best in attacking as well.
They were already outside and saw a few planes in front of them and there weren’t much zombies. The other boys, Jun and his son, quickly closed the glass door, not letting zombies enter.
All of them sighed and sat on the ground feeling safe for a moment. The pilot approached the others then spoke.
“The door won’t hold them off for long. We have to board the plane,” he said and he pointed at the farthest plane. “That’s the plane I’ve been assigned to pilot. Let’s go,” he added and everyone stood up and started running.
“Ah!”
Everyone stopped when they heard Erick scream. Their eyes opened wide when they noticed that he was being bitten by a zombie who surprised attack him.
“Sir Erick!”
The glass door already broke down, making the zombies run towards their direction.
“Shit! What do we do know,” Geof said and Erick suddenly shouted as he shot the zombie with his gun.
“You’ve all come this far! Board the plane now!”
“But Sir Erick, you—”
Isobel was interrupted when he suddenly spoke.
“You dare worry about me when I’ve been bitten!? You guys are smarter than that,” he said and Tyler was trying his best not to cry.
“But you made most of the plans! We couldn’t have made it if it weren’t for you.”
When Tyler said this, Erick got a grenade from the pouch that he had then spoke, giving them the next instruction.
“That’s the point. I’ve planned the whole thing just for you guys. Now listen: if I stay, I’ll just be a liability. I’ll be turning into a zombie and all you have to do now… is to run and leave me behind. It would be a great achievement of mine to know you guys are safe,” he said and John shook his head.
He already considered him a great friend.
“Erick, we couldn’t. We—”
The teacher chuckled. “You’re an ex-soldier. You know what to do. Don’t make me laugh,” he said and John looked away, understanding what he meant.
Jun looked at Erick then spoke with urgency.
“No… he’s activated most of the grenades. We have to move out!”
The moment Jun noticed and warned them about what Erick did, everyone had no choice but to run as fast as they could going to the plane.
“Survive, Army of True Salvation,” he mumbled to himself then smiled, as he died in the explosion, together with most zombies.
He sacrificed his life for the whole group. And to him, this was the most important.
Their safety.
The moment they entered the plane, it was closed tight by the pilot and most of them cried when they saw the last person who sacrificed himself for the lives of many.
“He… he just had to…”
Jun didn’t know what to say. John tapped his shoulder to comfort him.
“We knew we couldn’t save him. He knew that all too well. Both of us knew he would do something like this for him to protect everyone,” he said and everyone went quiet until the pilot spoke to announce something.
The teenagers were left behind as they sat quietly on the ground. They didn’t have any strength left, even to sit on the comfortable seats found in the plane. Once they knew that they were safe on the plane, everyone showed how vulnerable and tired they were.
“Sir Erick he died for us,” Tyler whispered but everyone heard him.
“He wanted this. Sacrifices were unavoidable,” Kreiss said and Geof sighed.
“I will remember everyone’s sacrifice. Not only his,” he added and everyone nodded, remembering those people who died and sacrificed themselves for the others.
Everything’s finally over for now. They are now bound to Australia and they have escaped their home country in such a life and death situation.
All of these wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for them fighting together. None of these would happen if the others didn’t sacrifice themselves.
The teenagers kept silent as they waited for their take off.
Sheloah sighed as she thought to herself.
‘It’s over… for now.’
People in Army of True Salvation wanted this for everyone’s sake.
