Army of True Salvation - Chapter 26:Protected
The teachers were found in one corner of the rooftop and the parents were found in the opposite side. The students were at the middle of the rooftop, sitting down. The students and parents were currently in their own little world.
Sheloah looked at Veon. “Anyway, we will just do you plan. It’s a good one,” she said and Veon just smiled at her.
“Then tell them our plan.”
After Veon said this, they both stood up and they went in front of their classmates to tell them their plan.
“Guys!” Sheloah called their attention but they did not even bother to look at her.
Her classmates looked really depressed, but she needed to tell them their plan. They can’t stay like this for too long. If they will be here for another few days, they will not make it. They need to survive as a group.
“Guys, please listen to me, we have to—” Sheloah was interrupted when one of her male classmates stood up and approached her and looked at her coldly.
“Why should we listen to you,” he said, intimidating Sheloah.
‘What?’
“Well, aren’t you stupid! You’re so full of yourself!” He scoffed then he pushed Sheloah slightly, making her back off. “Insensitive bitch! Can’t you see that most of us don’t have our families here!? Stop acting high and mighty just because you have your family with you!”
Some of their classmates already reacted the moment he said this. Some stood up, with anger evident in their eyes. They all let out their anger on Sheloah through their shouts of complaints and insults. There were some students and parents who were stopping the fight but they could not control the uproar of the students.
“It’s so unfair! I don’t have my family with me!”
“Yeah! Why can’t Sheloah understand!?”
“She could already see that we’re all sad and yet she still dared to tell the plans!”
“She’s so annoying!”
The complaints of the students were heard by everyone which made Sheloah pretty uncomfortable. It seemed like they were blaming Sheloah for everything. She could not do anything but to just stay quiet.
Yes, the situation was indeed very unfair… but Sheloah didn’t mean to be insensitive. She just wanted to tell them about their plan so they could survive as aa group. She was pretty worried about them.
But she realized that even though she was concerned about them, voicing out the plan during this time when they felt down was a wrong move.
Another classmate of theirs approached Sheloah. “Who are you to act like this? Oh, right…” She scoffed. “Our self-proclaimed leader!” She slapped Sheloah on the face and they were all taken aback.
Tyler, Josh, and Veon were shocked to see Sheloah in such position. They stepped in to protect her. Sheloah held her left cheek as she stared at her classmate quite surprised.
Sheloah’s mother quickly went to her daughter’s side. “Hey! I know the situation is unfair to you but you don’t have to harm my daughter!” Sheloah held her mother’s hand, worried. She didn’t want her to get caught up in this situation.
“Ma.” She forced herself to smile, calming her mother’s fury. “I’m okay,” she added but her mother ignored her. She was really portraying the role of a protective mother in front of her classmates who were against her daughter.
“Guys, you’re already too much!” Josh then spoke up as he went in front of Sheloah and her mother.
She held Josh’s shoulder. “Josh, it’s okay. Leave them be,” she said as she smiled at him a little, thankful for his protection.
Josh looked at her. “Hurting you is not right,” he said and Sheloah shook her head.
“What do you mean hurting her is not right!? She deserved it! She’s so shameless!”
The shout of their classmate hurt Sheloah. She turned her back at them as she did not know how to handle this situation. She was really hurt. She only wanted to protect them, but she was misinterpreted badly.
A lot of them were now screaming words of insults towards Sheloah. All she could do now was to shut up and let them be. She knew she could not stop them. If she would speak even just a word, she knew she could make this situation worse.
“Shut up!”
Veon shouted unexpectedly, making everyone silent.
He was seldom aggressive that’s why everyone went quiet when he screamed. It was their first time seeing and hearing him like this.
“All of you are so petty!”
When Veon made that remark, the whole place went completely silent and they just looked at Sheloah coldly.
Veon protected her.
