Army of True Salvation - Chapter 29:Good Night
They had already told the plans to their classmates. Tomorrow, they would be waking up early. After eating breakfast and resting for a while, they would already start their training.
Sheloah looked at the time on her phone and saw that it was already 8:43PM. She looked at her surroundings and saw that their classmates were gathered in small groups to share one big blanket that was brought by Josh and the others when they were at SM. The teachers and parents had their own groups and shared the blankets, too.
Sheloah was sitting on the farthest corner of the rooftop, stargazing. For some reason, she could not sleep. She didn’t know why. Maybe it was because of the situation right now that she can’t feel at ease. She felt that if she slept, something bad would happen.
She was also nervous about tomorrow. She was nervous about teaching their classmates on how to fight. Could they pull this off?
Sheloah suddenly stopped thinking when Veon sat beside her. “You’re not with the two?” Sheloah asked Veon as he rested his back on the wall behind him.
“They are on the other side, talking with the girls they like, sharing blankets. Tyler and Alice, Josh and Dannie,” he said and Sheloah giggled slightly.
‘Oh, those two lover boys…’
Sheloah stretched a little. “I couldn’t sleep,” she said as she comfortably rested her head on Veon’s shoulder.
Even though she liked him, doing this is comfortable for them since they have a close friendly relationship.
“I can’t sleep either,” Veon said and Sheloah smiled slightly.
“Why?” Both of them looked at the sky as they shared a conversation.
“I don’t know. Honestly, maybe it’s because I can’t shake off what had happened between me and my parents,” he said and Sheloah suddenly frowned, feeling a bit guilty.
“So—” Veon interrupted.
“I told you… stop saying sorry,” he said as he lightly hit Sheloah’s head.
“But…” She stopped talking and just pouted. Veon chuckled a bit. He found her pouty face cute.
Sheloah found Veon amazing. Even though in this dire situation, he still was clear about his dreams. A while ago, Veon told Sheloah about his dream about becoming a head nurse and if it is still possible to become one in a zombie apocalypse.
Veon also told Sheloah stories about his family background. She realized that his parents had sacrificed a lot for their family. His eldest sister became a doctor in the US. As for her second older sister, she was a nurse in Australia. Their father ran away from the province to come to the city to work.
Veon also told Sheloah how his parents wanted him to be… just like how he wanted himself to be.
Veon smiled as he stopped telling stories about him for a while and asked Sheloah a question. “Why couldn’t you sleep?”
“I’m nervous about tomorrow.” She answered honestly and Veon ruffled her hair, calming her.
“Don’t be. You know our section. We can pull this off,” he said and Sheloah smiled at him.
“But how? How can we teach them? To be honest, I don’t know how,” she said as she rested her head on top of her knees.
Veon chuckled slightly. “You’re our courageous leader and yet you worry yourself about this matter? Don’t overthink, Sheloah. We can do this,” he said and Sheloah felt a little assured with Veon’s comforting words.
Sheloah thought of teasing Veon. “You’ll also be teaching, y’know!” She knew that even though he spoke up a while ago, Veon could not escape from his shy trait.
“I-I know! You don’t have to remind me. I’ll try to pull this off,” he said as Sheloah giggled a little.
“Yes. She did read a lot of medical books. She really is determined to become a doctor. As for Tyler and Josh, they are determined to teach the supports as well,” he added and Sheloah smiled.
“I hope I could get a thing or two from Isobel tomorrow. Being a medic may be a difficult thing to do. I should not panic under pressure when I see people injured,” she said and Veon looked at her, surprised.
“What do you mean? You will join the medic training tomorrow?” Sheloah suddenly looked at him and gave him a smirk.
“Yeah. You’ll be teaching alone. Don’t tell me you’re nervous!” She went back to teasing Veon as he squinted his eyes at her.
“Sheloah, teach them with me,” he said and Sheloah laughed at him.
“Come on! You encouraged me not to be nervous about tomorrow! Don’t go choke on your words now,” she said as she laughed. “I’ll come to your aid if you really need help teaching them, okay?” Veon just sighed as he nodded at Sheloah.
“Fine,” he said as he stood up. Sheloah stood up as well. “Let’s sleep. We need to be early tomorrow,” he added and Sheloah nodded.
“Yeah. I’ll go sleep with my family. Good night, Veon,” she said as she waved him good night.
“Good night,” he said as he started walking towards Dean’s group, and shared the blanket with them.
