Army of True Salvation - Chapter 30:Zombie Attack 101
Sheloah opened her eyes slowly as the sunlight met her face. While she was adjusting her eyesight, she caught a glimpse of her surroundings. Some of her classmates were under the sun, some weren’t.
She continued looking around when she smelled a delicious aroma of garlic and onion being fried. This made her and the others hungry. Everyone was stretching as they woke up and they noticed that the parents were already awake, cooking breakfast for the youngsters.
Even though that a zombie apocalypse was happening, the parents still did the responsibilities they were already used to doing such as cooking for their children. These made the students think that somehow right now, they will pay back the care that they have received from them.
Sheloah stood up, stretched a little, then walked around until she saw Veon. “Good morning.” She greeted him and Veon smiled at her.
“Good morning. What time is it,” he asked as Sheloah looked at her watch.
“7:23 in the morning,” she answered and Veon yawned a bit, feeling a little bit groggy.
“What I’m smelling so early in the morning made me so hungry. It’s enough for us to know that the food is delicious,” Veon said and Sheloah smiled at him.
She realized that Sir Jim’s group had really gotten a lot of resources for them, especially important ones such as the gas and stove.
Maybe they have already stocked up enough guns and bullets, and may have gotten grenades as well. Sir Erick and Sir Jim will even make melee weapons with the possible resources they have brought so it will rise their chances of survival.
They told Sheloah that they also went to the pharmacies in the mall before they left. They said they tried to look for Pyramethamine but found nothing. Instead, they got more first-aid kits and stocks for recovery.
They also said that Tyler and Josh were almost bitten by zombies! Good thing Sir Jim, Sir Erick, and Sheloah’s uncle saved them. Good thing all was well on their end when Veon and Sheloah left.
“After we eat, we rest for a while then we start with our training,” Sheloah suggested and Veon nodded at her.
The two went to where their classmates were and sat with them as they waited eagerly for the food that was being prepared by the adults. It looked like they all went out to camp on the rooftop of their school; as if it was a field trip.
Sheloah smiled at them. “Good morning, everyone! After eating breakfast and resting for a while, we start with our training. For the healers, Isobel will lead. For the supports, it will be taken care of by Josh and Tyler. As for the attackers, you will be under Veon,” she instructed and their classmates nodded sleepily at her, and some were even yawning.
Sir Jim approached them. “Here. Start eating. We’re already done and we have distributed the food to the others,” he said and Sheloah smiled excitedly as she got the food from Sir Jim.
Some students approached the adults and got their share of the food. Some were even drooling upon receiving their bowl of macaroni soup and it was obvious that it was made with love by the parents because of the yummy aroma. Obviously, the taste will be delicious as well!
All of the students now realized that they were so hungry so they started eating the moment they received their bowls.
“Thank you!” All of them shouted their thanks altogether.
They all sat on the floor in groups, eating their breakfast. While they were eating, they were engaged in conversations about the upcoming training and the situation at hand. They ate and rested for almost one and a half hour.
Sheloah leaned on Veon’s back as she held her stomach. “My stomach’s so full!” Veon also held his stomach.
“Me too. I never felt so hungry until today,” he commented and they both laughed a little.
Sir Jim approached the two, with Tyler and Josh. They sat down beside Veon and Sheloah.
“We already prepared the weapons. For Sir Erick, he had also made a substitute silencer for the guns that we use,” he said and the two were amazed.
“Sir Erick is really resourceful and intelligent!” Veon, Josh, Tyler, and Sir Jim nodded in agreement to Sheloah’s statement.
They noticed that they were already developing their friendship with Sir Jim.
At first, they were suspicious about him but now that they have been with him and have done the plans with his help, they have come to trust him. Their suspicion they had when they first saw him in the home economics room disappeared.
They all stood up as Sheloah looked at Veon. “Game! Let’s start with our new lesson and agenda for today. The subject is now called ‘Zombie Attack 101’,” Sheloah said and the people with her laughed.
“Attackers, go to the right side of the rooftop, with Veon as your teacher. He will also be giving you your guns and your silencer. For the healers, on the opposite side, with Isobel as the lead. She will be the one giving the first-aid kits and the other medical resources we need. As for the supports, you will be in the middle part of the rooftop and Tyler and Josh will be your teacher. The melee weapons will be given by Sir Erick.”
Sheloah realized that she now had a dual purpose in the group. For now, she would be a healer and if things comes too worse, she will revert back to being an attacker.
The healers sat down on the floor as Isobel distributed the first-aid kits and other medical items. After she distributed them, she got her own first-aid kit and spoke.
“Okay, our medical training will start now,” she said then she suddenly laughed. “Gosh… I can’t believe I’m teaching right now!” The girls laughed at her reaction and after a while, Isobel focused again on the lecture.
She inhaled, then exhaled before she started speaking. “Since I will be teaching you guys, first things first: always remember that when treating a patient, keep your panic aside. Calm down. If anyone of you is afraid of blood, you will find it difficult to cope up but nevertheless, you try your best to control it so you could treat your patients,” she said as she secretly looked at Sheloah and she shivered.
Isobel knew that her best friend was afraid of blood. Sheloah also knew that Isobel meant for her to hear it. Since she joined the healer’s lecture, she would have to man up in facing her fears.
‘Good luck to me!’
Sheloah encouraged herself and hoped that she won’t faint when the time comes that she would see more than a pool of blood around her.
