Army of True Salvation - Chapter 36:Real Battlefield
Sheloah looked at her uncle. “Do you know where to get the keys in the first place,” she asked in a whisper and her uncle answered.
“Yes. I worked here before,” he said and Sheloah remembered that his uncle indeed worked here. It will be easier for them to locate the key, then.
“So how are we going to execute the plan,” Veon asked and they all thought on what to do.
“The two buses there,” Isobel whispered as she pointed at the two buses close to each other. “Can those be our buses? There are no zombies around and I think the bus was sealed enough for no one to enter. Not even a blood stain is present,” she added and they all looked at the two buses. “Edward, Kenneth, and I will wait there until you guys get the keys,” Isobel finally suggested and they agreed with her plan.
“If the three of them will wait there, who will guard them? Even though there aren’t any zombies around, we may not know that some might go there,” Josh asked in a whisper and they all got what he meant. A zombie apocalypse is indeed unpredictable.
“I will watch the three then,” Sir Erick volunteered and they all nodded at him.
“I will go up to get the keys. There aren’t much zombies there but I still need back up. Sir Jim, come with me,” Sheloah’s uncle said and Sir Jim agreed.
“While you guys are going up, we will be the ones responsible in attacking the zombies going towards Sir Erick and the zombies going towards you,” Sheloah said to her uncle.
Sir Jim and Sheloah’s uncle jumped down when they realized that they were slightly above their destined location. They ran towards the room where the keys were kept. Isobel, Edward, Kenneth, and Sir Erick jumped down as well and ran towards the buses they pointed a while ago.
The four left, Sheloah, Veon, Josh, and Tyler, stood up and looked down.
“Oh gosh… they jumped from here? It’s quite high,” Sheloah commented but they ignored her. Josh and Tyler jumped down and they waited for the two to jump down as well.
“I’ll go now,” Veon said but he was suddenly stopped by Sheloah. Veon then looked at her. “What’s wrong,” he asked and Sheloah slightly pouted.
“I’m kind of afraid of heights,” she said and Veon laughed slightly.
“So you also have a girly side,” he commented and Sheloah glared at him.
“Shut up! You need to catch me once I jump, okay,” she softly requested as blushed slightly but Veon didn’t even notice.
He jumped and landed safely on the ground. He looked up, signaling for Sheloah to jump. He was waiting for her.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath and exhaled. “Sheloah… you can do this. Veon will catch you,” she whispered to herself and she opened her eyes. She counted from one to three then she jumped and her heartbeat went fast. When she jumped, her eyes closed again as she felt scared to have jumped from a high location.
She was surprised when she felt that she was caught mid-air. She felt warmth behind her legs and she felt someone’s warm breath on her head. She slowly opened her eyes then her eyes met Veon’s. Her heart started beating fast again.
‘He caught me!’
They looked at each other for more than five seconds before Veon destroyed their moment.
“You’re quite heavy, Sheloah.”
Sheloah’s face suddenly reddened as she pushed Veon’s chest aggressively, making him drop her on the ground. Her butt met the floor hard, and Sheloah reflexively held her bottom.
“Ouch!”
Josh and Tyler started laughing when they saw what had happened. Sheloah stood up as she wiped the dust from her skirt. She looked embarrassed as she pouted at the two boys who were laughing at her.
‘Damn you, Veon.’
“L-let’s just start attacking,” Sheloah said as she ran towards the middle of Victory Liner and started attacking zombies who were near Sheloah’s uncle’s group and Sir Erick’s group. The three boys followed and attacked as well.
They knew that keeping zombies away from the two groups was a good plan, but on their end, they turned into bait and in turn would be very dangerous for them.
“They need to do this fast,” Veon said as they were attacking the zombies.
Sheloah looked up and saw that her uncle and Sir Jim were now running down. It seemed that they already got the keys from the room.
Sheloah’s phone vibrated and she quickly answered it. “Sir Jim,” she greeted as she pressed her phone on her ear using her left shoulder, while her right was busy shooting zombies.
“Tell Isobel we’ll be there soon. Tell her she could go to any group,” Sir Jim said then he ended the call.
Sheloah stopped attacking for a while as she called Isobel and told her what Sir Jim had said. In a few moments, Sir Jim and Sheloah’s uncle got to the buses and used the key. Kenneth and Edward already went to their respective buses.
“Guys, hurry up! Stop attacking and just go to your respective groups and buses,” Sir Erick shouted and he started shooting zombies to help the students.
When the others entered the buses, they closed the door and Sir Jim, Sir Erick, and Sheloah’s uncle went to Veon and the others to help them shoot zombies as well.
They were waiting for the zombies to come to them in one big group before they throw a grenade at them.
When they already saw that the zombies were already in one big group, they took ten steps back and Sir Erick got a grenade from the pouch he was holding.
“Take cover,” he said and they all covered their ears as they hid behind the nearest bus.
He twisted the pin and pulled it. He threw it towards the big group of zombies and ran towards the group for cover. The grenade exploded and they all reflexively closed their eyes from the explosion.
They waited for half a minute before their view cleared up. Once clear, they observed their surroundings and noticed that the grenade killed most of the zombies and that there were still some zombies who just stood up, unaffected.
They took this chance to run away from the zombies. They all went to their respective buses except for Veon, Sheloah, Josh and Tyler who went to Veon’s pick up car. Sheloah sat beside Veon, and Josh and Tyler sat behind them.
Sir Erick called Sheloah. “Let’s go back to school,” he said then he ended the call.
Sheloah called the others and told them that they will be going back. Sheloah’s uncle drove off first, followed by Kenneth’s bus, Edward’s bus, then Veon’s car.
While they were inside the car, they took the chance to rest. They were only running over the zombies along their way, not giving a single care.
They noticed that today was only the second day of the zombie apocalypse, yet a lot had already been part of the undead army.
This was already the real battlefield.
