Army of True Salvation - Chapter 5:This is Not the End
“Remember the instructions I told you. Leave no room for panic. We should be complete when we reach the rooftop. We can do this. Let’s all work together.” Sheloah encouraged her classmates and everyone became serious.
Sheloah looked at Veon. They nodded at each other as Sheloah slowly opened the door slowly and there they are…
Army of zombies.
In front of Sheloah and Veon were the two guards that turned into zombies. Veon and Sheloah were both scared but they focused at the situation at hand. They held their metal rods tightly and the moment the zombies attacked, they inserted the metal rods in their mouth, up their head, leading to their deaths.
Blood trickled from the rods, down to Sheloah’s hand. Sheloah started to shiver. She remembered that she was hemophobic! She closed her eyes when the sight of blood was too much on her hand.
‘Knock it off, Sheloah!’ She chanted in her mind repeatedly. Veon went in front of Sheloah and tried to attack the zombies as much as he can.
Sheloah then opened her eyes and saw Veon protecting her. She started to focus again and attacked the other zombies. She looked back and saw that half of their class were already on top of the roof and are helping their other classmates climb up.
Sheloah looked at the dead guard on the floor and searched his body for the gun. Veon did the same. She looked at Dean, signaling for him to carry on the plan and Dean did so. Dean ran towards the mic and started to speak.
“Hey, hey, yo, zombies! What’s up people in the house!?” He started speaking through the mic as if he was a rapper doing his intro and Sheloah did a facepalm the moment she heard this.
She shook her head and noticed that the zombies were now going towards Dean. Veon and Sheloah hastily went up the roof and started to look at the guns they held.
‘Can we really use a gun? Can we pull this off?’
“This isn’t the time to think. We have to do what we can now.” Veon snapped Sheloah out from her thoughts and they started aiming at the zombies near Dean and pulled the trigger. Veon and Sheloah successfully hit the zombies and they both looked at each other, feeling surprised.
‘So this is what it feels like firing a gun.’ Both of them thought in unison.
Sheloah noticed that everyone was already on the rooftop so she shouted at them. “Go ahead, guys! Veon and I will handle things here. Josh and Tyler will lead you. Let’s hope zombies couldn’t climb up. I know we’ll be safe once we reach the rooftop. We will follow,” Sheloah assured them then all of her classmates ran their way towards the rooftop.
When most of the zombies were now near Dean, Sheloah signaled for Edward to start. Edward saw her signal and he started swinging the bell’s rope left and right to make the bell ring. Now all of the zombies started to go where Edward is. Both Veon and Sheloah tried their best to shoot the zombies nearest to Edward as Dean ran his way towards the roof where the duo is.
“Nice one, Dean!” Sheloah complimented him and Dean just gave her a slight smile.
Once the zombies started to flock Edward’s location, Sheloah called Ace’s phone and he picked it up. “Go play a song. Now!”
“Done and done,” Ace said as he hung up the phone. He connected his phone to the speaker and started to play a song. It was obvious that he hit everything in high volume because the song can be clearly heard outside this building, in the school’s covered court.
“Dog goes woof. Cat goes meow.
Bird goes tweet and mouse goes squeak.
Cow goes moo. Frog goes croak and the elephant goes toot.
Ducks say quack and fish go blub and the seal goes ow ow ow.
But there’s no sound that no one knows…
WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY!?”
Veon, Dean and Sheloah started to facepalm in unison and Edward, from his position, showed a “seriously” face expression once they heard the lyrics of the song, especially now that it played in the chorus.
“Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
Gering-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!
What the fox say?
Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!
Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!
Wa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pa-pow!
What the fox say?
Hatee-hatee-hatee-ho!
Hatee-hatee-hatee-ho!
Hatee-hatee-hatee-ho!
What the fox say?
Joff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!
Tchoff-tchoff-thoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!
Joff-tchoff-tchoffo-tchoffo-tchoff!
What the fox say?”
Ace really played “The Fox” by Ylvis! They now realized that even though Ace volunteered for the class, he could still not get away from his mischievous ways!
The zombies now started evacuating this building, going towards the source of the sound, the covered court. Edward and Ace ran towards the roof and Veon and Dean helped both of them up.
“‘The Fox’, seriously?” Edward said the moment they were up on the roof. Ace just shrugged at him.
“It’s a noisy song. Why not?” Once Ace said that, all of them in the rooftop couldn’t help but smile as they just shook their heads at him. But the five of them really smiled, knowing that the plan had worked!
“Let’s head to the rooftop. They’re waiting for us,” Sheloah said and the four of them nodded.
They ran towards the rooftop. The moment they were already near the canteen, they noticed that the song was not very much heard in this location. They noticed that there were some, but not many, zombies walking slowly. The zombies didn’t notice them. But once they do, they will be vulnerable targets. How did their classmates escape from them?
Sheloah started to have doubts. ‘Wait… are they safe?’
They all looked around and Dean saw a roof that they could climb unto. Sheloah started to feel nervous. This was now not part of her plan and she wouldn’t know how they could continue but since Dean saw another alternative, she would now just believe the possible things that they could do at this moment.
“Let’s all maintain silence,” Sheloah said and her comrades nodded at her.
They all climbed up a pipe, walked on the roof quietly, and landed softly on the floor near the stairs going up the rooftop but the sound of coins falling on the ground got their attention. They all looked back, panicked, and noticed that Ace was staring at his pocket, his hand catching the remaining coins that were falling out from his pocket.
All of them looked at Ace in annoyance the moment they realized that the noise attracted some zombies.
“Ace!” The four of them said his name in an annoyed whisper and Ace just showed an apologetic smile as he did a peace sign.
Sheloah was about to hold her gun when Veon held her hand to stop her. “No! Gunshots are too noisy right now that it’s quiet here. Fire some, and we’d attract more,” he said and Sheloah sighed.
The zombies were slowly walking towards them. There were eight zombies in all. They started feeling nervous when they saw the situation at hand. Sheloah was the most scared of all of them. Her heart was beating fast and she could feel the sweat on her back.
“Run,” Sheloah said, almost in a whisper but they didn’t hear her. The zombies were now staring at them. Anytime soon, they would run.
The moment the zombies were now near them, they all stood up. Veon held Sheloah’s hand and she suddenly looked at him. Veon then shouted.
“Run!”
They all started running up the stairs, going to the rooftop, the zombies following suit. Veon was still holding Sheloah’s hand and when he was sure that she was now quick and focused, he released her.
They ran four floors up. They were practically running for their lives! They felt really tired but they had no choice but to continue on. They felt their leg muscles tiring out, but they could not give up now!
They need to live!
When they reached the entrance, their classmates saw them through the glass of the door and they opened the door for their quick entry. The moment the five of them were inside, they closed the door and pushed three drums of water in front of the door for the zombies not to enter.
The five of them naturally sat down on the floor, panting, obviously drenched in sweat. The moment their classmates saw them safe, they all approached them and gave them water. Sheloah looked at her surroundings as she drank her water. She noticed that everyone was here and safe. She was happy that their class made it in one piece!
Sheloah looked at their adviser. “4a’s complete.”
Her adviser smiled at her. “Complete. Thanks to you guys.” The five of them smiled at their teacher’s compliment.
“Everyone cooperated, too. It was not only us,” Sheloah said and all of her classmates smiled.
They are 47 in all, including their teacher. Now that they are in the school’s rooftop, they are safe for now. Now they will be thinking of the next plan; how they will be escaping this place and how they will be getting their resources. It is a good thing that they are safe but…
This is not the end.
