Army of True Salvation - Chapter 58:Perfect
Sheloah was standing right in front of Veon. He was patiently waiting for her to speak. They could only hear the rustling of the leaves as the wind blew. The serene sound of the water running through the river was calming and indeed relaxing. This was really what people enjoy during their visits in the low lands. They could not find this in the city.
The moon was reflected on the river and the sea of glitters on the sky was twinkling brightly. A look of the two would give off a vibe of a confession seen in movies.
“What do you want to tell me,” Veon said, breaking off the silence and Sheloah’s heart started beating fast again.
She didn’t know how to start. How can she tell her feelings to him? She had long wanted to tell him this, but she didn’t know how to.
Sheloah shook her head from her thoughts and Veon tilted his head, curious. Sheloah sighed as she slapped both of her cheeks repeatedly, surprising Veon. He got both of her hands to stop her from hitting herself.
“You’re crazy, Sheloah. Stop hurting yourself,” he said as he released her hands.
“Veon, if…”
She didn’t know what to do, what to say. He was right in front of him. They already have some time to spare for themselves, yet she could not say it.
“If what,” he urged, making Sheloah nervous. He was really serious about listening to her.
Sheloah suddenly turned her back at him and started laughing nervously.
Veon sighed. “Just talk,” he said and Sheloah now got her courage back as she looked back at him, smiling.
“You told me before that you only had one girl who got your interest. Charlene, right? She was a fourth year student when we were second year students,” Sheloah said and Veon chuckled slightly when he remembered Charlene, his only crush.
“Yeah. Why say this all of a sudden,” Veon asked and Sheloah went silent.
She was curious as to why Veon liked Charlene. They never talked and he never got to confess his attraction to her. Sheloah didn’t know what she looked like and how she was as a person. She didn’t want to stalk her in social media, either.
“Hmm,” Veon said as he started recalling some infos about Charlene.
“Well, she’s a simple beauty. And she was nice to have participated in charity events,” Veon answered and Sheloah nodded slowly at his answer.
“That’s it?” Sheloah seemed to be expecting more but when Veon nodded surely, she knew he meant it.
“Yup. That’s it,” he said and Sheloah started assessing herself.
A lot of people had told Sheloah that she was pretty and kind and that she was very smart. People sometimes call her “beauty and brains” but she rarely believed that beauty part, and was confident about her intelligence instead.
Sheloah also thought that if Veon were to like her, she would like him to like her because of her attitude and not because of her looks.
“You know, Veon,” Sheloah started talking and she smiled at Veon sweetly, having more courage than what she had a while ago. “You’re already perfect for me,” she added and Veon was surprised to have heard this and laughed slightly.
“Did you hit your head during your fall that’s why you keep spouting nonsense,” he asked teasingly and Sheloah laughed slightly before she looked at Veon’s eyes with love.
“If only you knew, Veon… other than falling in that cliff, I had already fallen for you… deeply.”
When Veon heard this, he felt his heart skip a beat faster than usual. He suddenly went silent after teasing Sheloah.
“You’re sporty; being good at sports such as badminton and basketball. You’re a fast learner as well.”
Sheloah started speaking her thoughts out loud as Veon listened to her intently, his face slightly turning red every second. Especially his ears.
“You’re smart. You’re even good at playing musical instruments. We also have a lot of things in common. They say it’s impossible to find a person who’s this talented, but I was actually quite surprised to have met one. It’s like meeting a rare pokemon,” Sheloah said and Veon laughed slightly when he was compared to a rare pokemon.
“These aren’t just the reasons why I like you, though,” she added and Veon went silent again as Sheloah continued speaking.
“I love how you start my morning by greeting me. I love how focused you are when I sit next to you during classes. I love how you share your food with me during breaks. I love how you care for me when it’s cold by you letting me borrow your jacket. I love how you teach me some things I never knew.”
Veon was suddenly taken aback when he saw a smile on Sheloah’s face that he had never seen before.
“There are still a lot of things I want to say… but I love how you are already a part of my life, Veon.”
Veon now avoided looking at her as he was now starting to feel embarrassed of hearing Sheloah’s confession. He didn’t know the people who liked him. He didn’t even experience love confessions until now.
“I had already warned myself not to fall too deeply in your void but before I even realized it, I had already reached the bottom,” Sheloah said and she held her chest as it now beat uncontrollably fast. She was hesitating to speak as she found it difficult to breath, but she still managed to say it out loud.
“I love you, Veon.”
