Army of True Salvation - Chapter 63:What If
Sheloah sighed, thinking about her disappointment of how she lacked knowledge. She opened her phone and shuffled her music. She then proceeded to wash the cloth as she listened to the music. She decided that she would cook dinner after this task.
The song that was playing was “What If” by Colbie Caillat. She listened to the lyrics of the song carefully and thought of Veon. She kind of related to the lyrics of the song.
“I see you standing over there
You look around without a care
I pretend you notice me
I look in your eyes and what you see”
When she heard the first stanza, Sheloah paused. She remembered the time when they were still in class wherein she would steal glances just to look at Veon.
“Is it made up in my mind
Am I crazy just wasting time
I think this could be love
I’m serious”
Sheloah rolled her eyes when she heard the next lines of the song. She looked at the time and noticed that it was already six in the evening. The battle of Army of True Salvation against Weapons of Massive Destruction had already ended at eight in the morning.
They’ve treated Veon soon after. He had been asleep since then. He seemed over fatigued and tired and a deep sleep was what he really needed.
Sheloah hanged the cloth near the window then proceeded with the preparations in cooking soup. The chorus of the song was then heard.
“What if we were made for each other?
Born to become best friends or lovers?
I want to stay right here in this moment with you over and over and over again
What if this could be a real love, love, love, yeah”
Sheloah thought whether it was okay for them to remain as friends. Sheloah also thought if there would be a chance for them to progress any higher. She sighed afterwards, knowing that her latter thoughts would seem impossible, as Veon really saw her only as a friend.
“I write our names down in the sand
Picturin’ all our plans
I close my eyes and I could see you
And you ask ‘will you marry me?’”
Sheloah scoffed.
‘As if Veon would marry me!’
“Is it made up in my mind?
Am I crazy just wasting time?
I think this could be love I’m serious.”
Sheloah was mixing the soup as she thought to herself that what if his feelings change as time goes by?
“What if we were made for each other?
Born to become best friends or lovers?
I want to stay right here in this moment with you over and over and over again
What if this could be a real love, love, love, yeah”
“I don’t know what to think
Is this real or just a dream?
In my heart is where you’ll be
I’ll keep waiting ’til we meet”
She remembered her confession to him last night. She had already told him everything that he wanted him to know. Sheloah was indeed rejected, but she accepted his decision. She was quite relieved to know that Veon still saw her as one of his important friends.
“What if we were made for each other?
Born to become best friends or lovers?
I want to stay right here in this moment with you over and over and over again
What if this could be a real love, love, love, yeah”
Sheloah put in the remaining ingredients needed for the soup. She sighed when she heard the last part of the song.
“Boy you know you really make my heart stop, stop, stop, yeah
Oh, what if this is real love?
Oh, what if this is real love?
Boy you know you really make my heart stop, stop, stop, yeah”
With that, Sheloah turned off the music of her phone, feeling slightly irritated by the message of the song.
‘What if indeed…’
She got three bowls and had put in each a serving of soup. Afterwards, she put it in a tray and placed three pairs of spoon and fork. She even placed three glasses of water as well. She walked slowly to where Veon was.
When she arrived near the bed, she saw that Veon was still sleeping so she put his share down on the end table. It was okay for the food to cool down. Sheloah knew Veon too well; he didn’t like food that’s too hot, especially when it comes to soup. That is one weird trait of him.
Sheloah sat down on the floor beside her mother, and gave her a bowl of soup. The both of them started eating together in silence.
When it came to cooking, Sheloah was better than her mother since she didn’t know how to cook. Sheloah learned by herself, sometimes, with the aid of her grandmother or aunt.
After eating, Sheloah stood up and closed the windows since it started getting a little chilly despite the lowland’s warm atmosphere. Sheloah was only wearing her tank top and denim shorts. As for Veon, his torso was bandaged and was only wearing pants. She will give Veon his shirt once he had woken up.
