Arranged by chance and Married by choice - Chapter 13:Thirteen
Mel looked at the woman standing in front of her in total distaste. Of course, she recognised her; she wasn’t the head of a newspaper for nothing.
The woman standing in front of her had short hair, a fit body to die for, much taller than her and she dare say she was stunning in whatever garb she was wearing but most importantly she was someone who clearly shouldn’t have been there at that time. Mel decided to play it dumb regarding the woman in front of her.
Mel: who are you? Whom do you want?
In-Soo: (in disbelief) you don’t know me?! What kind of rock do you live under?
Mel: (frowning at her rudeness) do you need something?
In-Soo: yes! I came here to see my man; clearly he has appointed a rude housemaid who has no idea about the celebrities in this country.
Mel wanted to kick her out of the house at that moment but she took a deep breath before facing the woman in front of her. She couldn’t still believe Kai had dated this- but again he was a man and they took a long time to see what lay under the surface. She would bet that he had fallen for her long legs and slim body. Yes, the woman was Kai’s ex. Not a recent one but they were in the news about 2 years ago.
Mel: your man?
In-Soo: (scoffing) you are stupid too- pushing Mel out of the way- Kai!!
Mel: (face red in anger) miss! I ask you to leave my house this instant or else I’ll have to call the police.
In-Soo: (surprised) your house?!
Mel: yes. This is my house and you are causing a ruckus here and insulting me. So please get out!
In-Soo: (confused) ruckus? What does that mean?
Mel could only roll her eyes at her clear lack of knowledge; she could only hope that Kai didn’t come down at that moment. Luckily for her, he was busy upstairs in an important call.
In-Soo: (turning red in anger) you! You are telling me to get out? How dare you?
Mel couldn’t take her shit anymore. She desperately wanted to spend some quality time with her husband than spend it arguing with her. She took hold of the top model of the country from her elbow and pretty easily dragged her out of the door behind her. She threw her out in a flash.
Mel: (bending down to her face to look in her eyes and mustering all the hate she could) Lee In-Soo, I hope you take this as a lesson before barging into someone’s house especially mine. I hope you won’t show your face ever again to me or I promise to make your life hell. And also, stay away from my man. If I get even a rumour about you with him, you would wish that you would’ve never met me.
Mel didn’t give her a moment to recover from her shock and reply. She stood up and slammed the door in the face of the country’s top-model, who by the looks of it had been almost reduced to tears.
Mel stood with her back leaning on the door and taking deep breaths. She could clearly hear Kai talking softly in their room and shuffling around. The only sound in the foyer was her controlled breathing. She was trying to get her anger under control. She had almost bitten the woman’s head off her neck when she had heard her call Kai ‘her man’. She could now understand what he had felt when he had seen her with Tae-hee that afternoon. She chuckled at her own jealousy in disbelief.
Kai: who was it, baby?
Mel: someone who was looking for an address. They thought this was the right house so I showed them the right house- I guess.
Kai clearly saw traces of anger left on her face. She was breathing hard to calm her nerves. He didn’t dare question her knowing it would probably spoil their night. He just nodded at her before holding her hand and taking her to their room.
Kai: (handing her a glass of water) drink it.
Mel accepted it gladly before gulping it down in one go. She was feeling a lot better after her recent row. She had a small doubt in her mind that In-Soo wouldn’t keep quiet and do something to get back at her.
Kai: this is not fair!
Mel: huh?
Kai: I am with you after this long time and you aren’t even here mentally.
Mel: (flushing in embarrassment) sorry, I was thinking about something.
Kai: enough of it, now you must only focus on me.
Mel: yes but first I want to know about your album. As your fan, will I be getting any new surprises?
Kai: (feeling shy) yes, I think so. (Desperately trying to change the topic) big bro called me just now; he wanted to wish you on your birthday and said he was sorry as he couldn’t do it personally.
Mel: (smiling at his attempt) alright, I’ll thank him later.
Kai: there is something I wanted to give you.
Mel: what is it?
He pulled out a velvet box from his side of their shared closet and handed it to her. Mel took the box gingerly and opened it. In the box was a platinum necklace with a small sapphire resting in its drop shaped pendant.
Mel: (holding it in her palm) more sapphires.
Kai: (rubbing his neck) I just think they suit you well.
Mel: help me wear it.
He took the necklace from her and placed it around her neck. As he had stated, it did look pretty on her.
Mel: (turning back to him) how does it look?
Kai: what did you think, it’s my choice. It should look pretty.
Mel: (chuckling at his narcissism) Love, you are unbelievable.
She decided to be the bold one between them this time around and put both her arms around his neck.
Mel: is the necklace my birthday gift?
Kai: (looking deep into her eyes) something like that.
Mel smiled at him before closing the distance between them by kissing him fully on the lips. Of course, this kiss wasn’t like the first one they had shared at their wedding. It was more intense, filled with each other’s need. Kai pulled her more close to himself as their tongues battled out amongst each other.
They pulled apart when the need for air arose. He just placed his forehead on hers quite out of breath. He saw her in a new light that night as he kissed her again, again and many more countless times before she fell asleep due to exhaustion.
