Arranged by chance and Married by choice - Chapter 7:Seven
The ride down by the elevator was a quiet one with Kai mulling over his thoughts in silence.
Mel chose to keep quiet, completely aware about what he was thinking about. He didn’t break his silence until they were safely tucked back in his car.
Kai: I want to take you somewhere.
Mel: (nodding) sure.
They drove in and out of the populated areas of the city in the charged silence. Soon enough they were almost at the edge of the city and Kai took an exit just out of the city outskirts. This new road was a narrow one which zigzagged around the thick fauna surrounding the city. Mel started to feel the first sensations of motion-sickness hit her. She closed her eyes and rested her head back on the seat.
Kai noticed from his periphery a sheen of sweat dotted on her forehead. He frowned at the sudden change in her expression. A variety of scenarios ran through his mind but her pale and pained expression didn’t fit any of those. After driving for another half an hour, the car came to a stop. Mel felt grateful that it had ended. She didn’t waste another beat in dashing out from the vehicle and breathe in the fresh air around her. Kai looked on confused at her sudden escape. He slowly unclasped his seat-belt and opened the door, whole time keeping his eyes on her. She was pacing back and forth in front of the car. She spotted a rock further away from her and not waiting for him went ahead and sat on it, making herself comfortable. Still confused Kai followed her.
Kai: (bending to be on level with her face) Baby? What happened? Are you alright?
Mel chose to shake her head once but held up on of her hands to stop him from making further assumptions. After a minute or two, she took a deep breath and finally answered him.
Mel: I am fine now.
Kai: (frowning) what did just happen?
Mel: (embarrassed) I am prone to motion sickness sometimes.
Kai: (sternly) why didn’t you tell me that before?
Mel: I didn’t know that the road would be curvy.
Kai: is it too bad?
Mel: (shaking her head) no.
Kai: (folding his hands) tell me about it.
Mel: (sighing) it used to be terrible when I was young now it isn’t that bad. I just feel nauseous that’s all when the road is curvy or when I get stuck in traffic.
Mel: the wind helps and also chocolates are a life saver.
Kai: (chuckling) now I understand why you keep chocolates with you all the time.
Mel: (standing up on wobbling legs) yes.
Kai: (holding her by the waist) do you want one now?
Mel: (nodding) yes. they are in my bag.
Kai helped her to walk for a little to the car until she regained her balance. She smiled at him before freeing herself from his grip and went to get the chocolate from her bag.
Mel: (handing him one) why are we here?
Kai: I wanted to show you our new home.
Mel: (looking at him in surprise) where?
Kai: (pointing at the gates ahead) there-
Mel: (grabbing his hand with renewed energy) let’s go!
Unlike every other time, Mel pulled her intended behind her eager to see the new house he was talking about. They passed the gate and the long drive-way and finally made it to the front of the lone building in the neighbourhood they were staying.
The house itself was pretty huge, considering it belonged to one of the country’s top star. It was surrounded by thick trees all around. The front was adored with a beautiful garden with a lawn and seating area. The house itself consisted of pristine white walls and glass windows when looked from outside. It was a three-storey building, yet it looked cosy instead of intimidating. The porch also was huge with a pretty big seating area- already furnished.
Mel: (appreciatively) this is huge!
Kai: don’t you like it?
Mel: (turning to him) was this supposed to be a surprise?
Kai: no. I got the keys last night. I wanted to make sure that you were happy with it.
Mel: Kai, won’t this be too far away from the city? And not to mention too time consuming?
Kai: (nodding) yes, but it would give us the privacy that we need until the time we are ready.
Mel: (smiling) you sure do think ahead.
Kai: (nodding) don’t you want to look inside?
Mel: (shaking her head) not yet, I want it to be a surprise for later. I just want to look around today.
Kai: alright. (Holding her hand and leading her around the house) actress?!
Mel: (chuckling) that was several months ago. I had come to interview your president, it was a surprise to me too when he asked me to consider being an actress.
Kai: (chuckling) and here I was worried that you were feeling pressured by the thought of meeting him.
Mel: (looking at him seriously) oh! Sorry, I got you worried.
Kai: (messing up her hairs) no, it’s nothing. Min-Soe-ah, you’re so pretty!
Mel: (blushing in pleasure) Thank you Kai.
Kai: aren’t you hungry?
Mel: (nodding) yes.
Kai: (pulling her to the car) let’s get going then!
