Ascension of the Master Assassin - Chapter 58: Commander
“Are they going to rush and stab me to death? Did I go too far with my words and offended them?” Venn thought as he turned his glance to Vesra nervously.
Vesra gave a small chuckle when she noticed Venn’s confused and terrified state. Honestly, she did not know whether to laugh or cry looking at him.
Who would have thought that an outsider that came to the capital and knew nothing about them could manage to earn the respect of the Onis who were proud in nature in just a matter of less than ten minutes?
Admittedly, even she was feeling a little light-headed with excitement to cut down the goblins from hearing his fervent speech, when in fact she knew that it was just an empty promise.
It was a trick her older sister would commonly use on the others. By behaving the right way and saying the right things, she managed to maintain the image of the perfect princess to every clan member when she herself was having a hard time putting up a brave front.
“It’s no wonder that my sister acknowledged him. They are birds of the same feather. Both of them have a glib tongue.” She mentally noted.
“It’s a custom that our race practices when we want to become blood brothers with another person. They have acknowledged you, what are you waiting for?” Vesra explained to Venn.
“Blood brothers? Erm… What should I do?” Venn asked excitedly as his words had moved the militias.
“Well, for a start, you can lead by cutting your palm with a dagger and let the blood drip on the floor.” Vesra replied.
Hearing that, Venn swiftly acted on Vesra’s instruction, and when he did so, all the soldiers followed suit and cut open their palms as well.
With the blood of everyone simultaneously flowing down their palms and onto the training ground, dyeing it in the colors of crimson, they began the ritual to become blood brothers and it was recognised by the game system.
Along with the falling of the autumn leaves from trees surrounding the training ground and as Venn’s blood stained the wooden platform further, the ritual between an unexpected combination slowly progressed.
[Ritual progress: 22%…48%…60%…99%]
Then, following Vesra’s instruction, with a mighty shout, he raised his right fist up towards the sky.
Seeing that, everyone below the platform copied Venn’s action and raised their fists as well, awaiting his orders.
Without betraying their expectation, Venn spoke in a calm and collected tone. His voice resonated to every part of the training grounds.
“We are different in race, yet we have come together as brothers. From this day forward, we shall join forces for a common purpose: We shall avenge our loved ones and eradicate the goblins that committed atrocity against us. We seek not to be born on the same day, in the same month and in the same year. We merely hope to die on the same day, in the same month and in the same year. May our fallen loved ones attest to what is in our hearts. If we should ever do anything to betray our brothership, may the people strike us dead.”
“To Lord Night Raid!”
“To Lord Night Raid!”
Along with the mixed sounds of the crowd and the notification sounds of the game resounding in his ears, Venn finally smiled. Ever since the meeting with Silverfox, this was the first time he regained control of his own destiny.

[Fame increased by 250]
With the rewards given by the system, the total of Venn’s charisma had reached a whopping 34 points. Not only was he able to convince NPCs easily now such as giving him shop discounts and many other hidden benefits, he could now create and lead a 34 members party. An ability that was rarely seen in a player.
Unless necessary, most players would never allocate precious stat points towards charisma. The only players that would do so would be players intending to go for the beastmaster route or the necromancer route.
For Venn to have so many points in charisma was unexpected to him. He would rather the extra stats gained to be strength or agility, stats that could grant him an advantage in combat. However, he did not sulk over it for too long.
Some things are within one’s control, and some things are not. Rather than wasting time and energy focusing on things that he could not control, it was much better to focus on things that he could.
Immediately, once he had quieted the enthusiastic troops down, he proceeded to work by splitting all the troops into different teams based on the types of weapons they used and allocating team leaders to control and manage the teams.
In turn, the team leaders would report directly to him. That was the chain of command he adopted, and it was the most efficient way in managing 250 people. Although he was a library rat in the past, that did not mean he was a complete noob at managing people.
Although he did not know how an airplane works, he had seen an airplane before.
By imitating Klein’s action when he was under him in the past, he managed to give out orders clearly and efficiently. And by imitating the various guild leaders leading their guilds to attack and defend against their enemies in large scaled wars in televised broadcast and on streaming platforms in the past, he behaved confidently like a commander and the beacon of hope that his troops could rely on.
