Astrid The Hybrid Princess - Chapter 326 Eavesdropping
CHAPTER 326
Evelyn went on with her daily household palace chores like every other maid but unlike every other maid, she caught on things quite fast making her one of the tops picked to serve the royal household personally.
For the meantime she had been with Cyrena, he did not see it as anything bad and enjoyed her work very well.
On one of those days, she had stayed longer in Cyrena’s room to clean up her bathtub and do some later chores at that moment so she could take the afternoon off as the princess was having a visitor.
What she had not expected was for Cyrena’s visitor to have arrived sooner than expected and they began their discussion almost immediately.
“Your highness, you called,” Amelia said, bowing her head a bit.
“You still have not considered my proposal?” Cyrena asked, raising her head so her eyes would lock with Amelia’s whose face was covered except for her eyes with a black mask.
“That is not a proposal, Princess. This you asking me to kill someone for you. Not just anybody but the young general himself.”
At the mention of Cullen, Evelyn who was about returning from her duties and coming to beg Cyrena stopped in her tracks and shifted closer to the door to hear their conversation.
All through their discussion, Amelia had refused Cyrena a lot and she knew by now how terrible the princess could be when she was angry.
“Amelia!”
Things weren’t just right. The thing was Lorelei had figured her intention out after Amelia told her what Cyrena had ordered.
It was simple. She knew full well that Amelia may be no match for Cullen or may be on par with him but nevertheless, that wasn’t the problem.
The problem was that if she was on equal strength with him, and they engage in a fight, it would only attract the attention of the guards and they would join in.
With that added strength, then there was no telling that she would succeed and once she fails and she is cut, it is death for her.
Now, knowing this, Cyrena still chose to send her. It would mean only one thing, she did that based on plane arrant jealousy. It was just too sad the length she was bent on going for Void.
Now she planned on killing two birds with one stone. If peradventure Amelia succeeded and she proved better than Cullen, it only means she would not make it out alive because the guards and soldiers would chase after her.
Either way, Cyrena wins by having her enemies crushed.
Hiding in the guise of the freedom from her service promise was all just a blah!
Amelia’s eyes narrowed at the princess, watching as her chest rose and fell, while she struggled to control her anger but failed miserably well.
“Why don’t you want to go?” Cyrena asked out of the blue, hoping to use her question to throw Amelia off and she can steady herself and become calm.
“You can’t or you do not want to?”
“Whichever one sounds right to you but I would not kill an innocent man. As you said, you have quite the assassins roll, make them do it. I bet they would be more than happy to take on any mission assigned to them by you. They would see it as a chance to grow their rank under you and be the top assassin in her royal highness’s command.”
What she said was true. So Amelia should not be bothered about how to get the work done as they would in no doubt give it their best just to impress her.
“Amelia, I am asking you for the last time.”
“Forgive me, princess,” Amelia said with a bow and raised her head back so she was looking at Curena eyeball to eyeball. “My answer remains the same. No.”
“If you say so then, I would not ask you about it again.”
“Thank you.”
“However!” Cyrena stood up from her seat and took some steps forward, towards the window where Amelia stood then halted. With her chin lifted high and chest out with hands joined in front of her, Cyrena continued.”However, I am not asking you as a friend or as an employer.”
Amelia raised her brows at Cyrena knowing full well that nothing good came from her when she was being all too bossy and using her authority.
“However, I am ordering you as your princess. I gave you a chance to choose and you did not choose wisely. You know what would come to if you disobey my order.”
Amelia’s brows knotted together as a deep frown appeared on her face with her brows furrowing deeper and her eyes turning red with anger.
“Seeing as you are not responding, I would take that as a yes that you understand. Kill the young general. Make it look like an accident or something but take him OUT!”
‘Why don’t I just take you out instead?’ Amelia voiced in her mind and clenched her fist so tight that her knuckles paled underneath her gloves.
“I expect joyful news and a full report. I give you two weeks maximum to come out with a perfect plan and do it.”
“Two weeks?”
“Okay, make that one week. Any complains?”
Evelyn who was listening silently, had her lips opened wide in shock at how ruthless the princess could be.
What had Cullen done to her to deserve all these? He was loved by all and praised by everyone.
‘I guess being loved by all had its own risks and danger with all eyes, both envious and good on you.’ Evelyn thought to herself.
‘But what has Cullen done to her in particular? I thought she was to have a feud with her brother and not Cullen? Or was it… wait.’
That was when it clicked in her brain and she brought all the pieces together.
