Avatar: Terror Of The Red Spirit - Volume 1
The original Azula was cold and ruthless, only caring about power and nothing else. She wasn’t a psycho but a Machiavellian type of person being calm and collected at any situation not facing battle head on but by exploiting weaknesses and manipulating people. She wanted to rule through fear just like her father and so she rid of all the love she had and the people around her. One of the reasons that Azula was made this way was as a result of bad parenting where Ozai gave her positive feedback and taught her his evil whilst Ursa gave negative feedback but always meant good. Everything was because of Ozai.
But this Azula is different she was cheerful, happy and more loving than her counterpart. She received another positive feedback not just from Ozai but from Kuro who encouraged her to not listen to him and soon enough Ursa was also giving Azula positive feedback and so the two mother and daughter bonded.
Kuro would give few year old Azula some candy and telling her ideals such as ‘Sharing is Caring’ he’d instill those views in her and she’s ask lots of whys and hows but he carefully explained even when she didn’t get it he’d explain another time.
Not only that but Kuro was secretly suppressing Ozai by either threating him with Grandpa and Kuro was arguing with him lots and lots of times but few times would he win over Ozai’s stubbornness. When Ozai taught Azula something he would convince Azula to ignore it.
Kuro would have many fights with Ozai over Azula. Not only Azula but Zuko as well since Ozai wanted to curry or both his children. But Kuro would always step in his way so the kids wouldn’t be corrupted by Ozai’s filthy ideals.
“Remember Azula to get anything you want you have to make people scared of you. Watch!”
A kid Azula was sitting on Ozai’s lap as he sat on a chair. A soldier came to the presence of Ozai.
“You called me your highness?”
The soldier was visibly shivering as his face was visibly seen sweating. Ozai made an evil smile as his eyes pierced his prey.
“Yes I have. A long time ago, you’re late! What do you have to say for yourself?”
“I’m sorry Prince Ozai I had my hands full.”
“Sorry just doesn’t cut it. But I have a proposition. Bring me a glass of water and I’ll reconsider punishing you.”
And so the soldier walked out of the room seemingly calm but as he stepped out he ran like his life was on the line. His footsteps could still be heard ringing in Ozai’s room.
“See Azula this is how you force someone to do something for you. You can force them to get you what you want as long as you hit them really hard.”
“Yes father” said kid Azula.
“Good.” Said Ozai as he patted Azula on the head,”You can go now and spend time honing your firebending, it still needs polishing.”
Azula walked out of the room and met with Kuro who was waiting in the palace corridor for her. He overheard their talk, he always does and whenever Azula walks out he would always talk to her.
“Want some candy?” He asked.
“Of course Kuro.”
By giving her candy Kuro can manipulate her by making her want the candy in exchange she listens to him. Although it seemed bad but it’s for the better and for her future if she doesn’t want to be an evil witch known throughout the world as Ozai’s right hand.
“Hey Azula what did your dad tell you?”
“He told me to hurt people so that I can get what I want. Is that good?”
“Not really Azula. If you do that no one will like you because you will be mean to them. Everyone will hate you.”
“You’ll hate me too?” asked Azula with watery eyes.
“Of course not. I love my little too cute Azula too much to ever let her go. Just don’t hurt anyone and people will like you and when people like you and are your friends then they will help you in life.”
“Really? Okay I’ll promise never hurt anyone.”
“That’s my little Azula.” said Kuro as he hugged her and patted her head at the same time.
…
At night Kuro would sit next to her and tell her bedtime stories which were actually Anime. Today he was retelling her One Piece. Kuro tells her anime stories so that she would understand the key themes and messgaes such as One Piece is about friendship.
” Wait! They were inside a giant goldfishe’s stomach? How’d they get out?”
“Remember Dorry and Grogy? Well they survived. They channeled all their might into their weapons and attacked at the same time. Their combined might managed to cut the Island Eater in half, freeing the Straw Hats.”
“That’s so cool.”
“If you had friends like these they could save you from an Island Eater as well.”
“Uhuh! I’ll do my best to make friends.”
Afterwards Kuro left her bedroom and he went back to his nightly training.
Deep down in Kuro’s mind he was hopeful that Azula will change her destiny.
