Awakened: Evolving to Godhood - Chapter 318
The tomb of the master of the shadows was at the edge of the southern land. Facing thousands of deadly monsters to reach there was inevitable even for the spider queen. She was a monster, so were the beings inhabiting the southern wilderness, but there was no reason for them to see to eye to eye. For them, she was a mere who was trying to step her limbs into their lands, and for that very reason, she deserved to die. In the past, she had tried to reason with them, but they responded with utter violence, and as they outnumbered her and her army, she couldn’t help but fall back to her territory. It had been ten years since then, and she had cultivated a strong enough army to charge into the south and explore the tomb! The only thing she was waiting for was the hatching of the tens of thousands of eggs in the depths of the unholy necropolis.
According to Freya, the day the last of the spider queen’s children comes to life, she would set out to invade the southern wilderness, and as the community of the righteous lizardmens was in her path, she would annihilate them in passing. She was a vicious being, and killing people who were struggling to survive in a harsh and barren land was something she somewhat loved to do.
Elliot understood many things about the insidious plans of the spider queen, thanks to Freya.
The main thing was that the spider queen was hell-bent on setting the master of ten thousand shadows, an ancient evil, free from its restraint.
If he allowed that to happen, there was an above 99 percent chance that the demonic gods would gain a powerful slave or an ally.
The spider queen enslaving it was a possibility only if she really had a way to put a slave mark on emperors and beings beyond the level.
“I can’t allow that to happen,” Elliot said, an adamant look appearing on his handsome face, breaking the smiling calmness that he always adorned himself with for the sake of appearing more approachable and harmless. Freya thought he looked handsome when he was calm or smiling but ten times better when he was serious. A serious Elliot was like a gallant general, ready to charge into the enemy formation to get their commander’s head!
Elliot didn’t realize he had gained a new admirer, and this one looked too beautiful. If being gorgeous was a sin, then Freya would’ve been the worst sinner to exist.
He seemed lost in deep thoughts. Whether the spider queen enslaves the master of ten thousand shadows or makes it an ally, the one who will lose on this deal was him and all the people who were against the demonic gods.
“Your eminence, what are your plans?” Too much respect; that was what she held for him. He had saved her and freed her from the confine of the spider queen and thus, won her heart. She was willing even to serve him her entire life. So, unconsciously respecting him so much even when he demanded her no to was bound to happen.
Thus, she subconsciously called out to him formally.
“Someone needs to stop things from escalating, and among us, it can only be me,” Elliot said calmly.
“Please let me accompany you.” She knew her limits wells and was well aware that proceeding ahead was putting her life at extreme risk, but she knew the ins and outs of this place, and that was why she wanted to accompany him to make things easier for him.
“There are two ways to put a stop to this situation. The first is that we destroy the spider queen’s force. I want you to know that we will be killing all the wyverns, your kind, the unholy elves, and the spiders. A lot of blood we will have to split with our hands. So much killing is extremely daunting, but if a person fails to process such an event well and lets it become a haunting event, they will end up insane. And even after doing all that, we would only put a temporary halt to her plan.” Elliot stared at Freya with a soul-chilling gaze. “Only by also killing the spider queen can we stop her plan to resurrect the master of ten thousand shadows permanently. And I am aiming for that. Coming with me means that you will be walking towards the sun. You might not survive. You might not go back to your loved ones. You’ll die without being able to clear your name or make others look at your kind kindly. Are you still willing to be my guide?”
Freya wiped the blood and saliva at the corner of her mouth and straightened her back as she said, “Even with all that, I have no intention of taking a step back.”
Elliot closed his eyes, unable to understand why her brain worked like that. She was like a firefly who couldn’t stop heading towards fire even though it knew that it would burn it to death, giving a memorable pain before turning it to ashes.
“Why do you want to go so far?”
“The day I became a resistor, I gained the status of a soldier. As a soldier, it’s my duty to safeguard the citizens. I can not take a step back while knowing that thousands of citizens might get implicated. The life of a single one of them is worth more than mine. I want to fight, and I want to help in every way I can to ensure that a major war doesn’t break out, and you eradicate the spider queen and her army.” Freya explained.
He looked at her bright eyes and then looked away.
The people she wanted to protect were the very ignorant sons and daughters of bitches that tagged her as a dog that bites the hands which feed her, a bitch that betrayed the high elves who raised her, even though she was undercover for their sake. Elliot also didn’t like the high elves. Those sons of guns brainwashed this pitiful child and made her do the dirtiest of deeds, so bad that the entire mainland scorned her now. And they still hadn’t made the situation clear with their people. They weren’t in the wrong. The high elves feared that there were spies of the spider queen in the mainland, and announcing that Freya hadn’t betrayed her would only get her in danger.
Elliot knew his anger was getting the best of him, so he shrugged his shoulder and stopped thinking about it.
“I can’t promise that we will get out of here alive, but I will try my best not to let either of us die,” Elliot said as he gave her a look that told her that there was still a chance that she could turn around and not accompany him.
“You’re the one who gave me this life, so I don’t mind dying for you.”
Anyone would feel an itch in their heart if a woman said such a thing to them, especially if they were as beautiful and perfect as Freya, so Elliot, whose heart seemed not made of stone, also felt it.
Thud, thud, thud!
A black hole opened a step ahead of them, and it spewed out hundreds of low to high-ranked artifacts.
Undoubtedly, it was a ridiculous sight to Freya.
“Pick up whatever you like,” Elliot said as he started equipping himself with the best ones. He was a wealthy young man, and as he was going to war with a demonic god, he wanted to put all his riches to good use.
“Your eminence, can I really? Don’t these artifacts cost a lot? What if I mistakenly scratch or shattered them? What will you do then?” The shining artifacts were blinding her! They were too many and too high in quality. A poor person like her, who only had a single high-ranked and a single life-saving treasure, was shocked silly—had because Elliot shattered one and took the other.
“Nothing, but if you call me by that title one more time, I will knock you out,” Elliot said jokingly.
“Thank you, my lord. I will not forget your kindness till the day I die, and I will make sure to return your artifacts to you in peak condition.” Freya said before she buried her attention in the pile of artifacts.
Elliot shook his head, feeling that her being so silly and beautiful was too great of a sin.
He adorned himself with many artifacts.
