Awakened: The Spirit King! - Chapter 61
Chen Yuan and Mo Mingzhu followed after them. When she saw that, Mao Yue cursed them as idiots who didn’t fear death. She was the most disappointed with Mo Mingzhu. Chen Yuan wasn’t too important to her. She had somewhat of a plastic friendship with him. Their relationship only existed because of Mo Mingzhu, who was obviously Mao Yue’s childhood friend and also the person she most cared about in her life.
The part about her caring for her was the whitest truth.
Mao Yue was a member of the shadow clan that had almost entirely perished.
Her actual form was a blob of darkness.
The unique thing about her and her clan was that they could change themselves to look like humans.
While growing and living as one, they would start looking like the person they most cared about and whether they showed it or not was another matter.
Because Mo Mingzhu was good to her, Mao Yue had come to like her, and her liking her increased over the years, reaching such a point that she was willing to sacrifice herself for her.
Since she cared about her a lot, she felt awful to see her taking someone else side.
She shrugged off her burdening negative emotions and also joined them.
She took it upon herself to save her from the hidden danger!
Mao Yue felt responsible for Mo Mingzhu’s life.
It was not only because the latter had been extremely kind to her and let her live in her home but also because her father had asked her to look after his only daughter.
Mo Mingzhu’s father was a governor of a small city. He chanced upon Mao Yue on a certain winter years ago. At that time, she had adopted a form of a human, and as she was young, she only looked like a four to three years old child. Because Mao Yue looked pitiful while shivering in the cold, he had taken her in as his adoptive daughter. She grew up and started to look like his daughter. He realized that she was a member of the shadow clan. Instead of throwing her out or apprehending her, he warned her not to reveal the truth to anyone.
Whether it was because of Mao Yue or it was to keep her daughter away from his troubled life, he enrolled them both in the sect.
It was in those days that he advised his daughters not to abandon each other and also privately told Mao Yue to look after Mo Mingzhu.
Chen Yuan smiled after seeing that she had chosen not to abandon them in times of need.
“I’m sorry for calling you a coward.”
He apologized for saying harsh words to her.
Mao Yue rolled her eyes at him.
However, in her heart, she knew that he was right and that she was a coward!
If she wasn’t one, why did she run away when the soldiers of different kingdoms invaded her shadow clan?
Why has she changed her name and form and started living among humans without any thoughts of having revenge?
Her father protecting her, died under the blade of the western kingdom’s soldier.
Why hadn’t she taken any actions to avenge him?
The chief commander of the many squads that razed their village to the ground snatched her mother to keep her as his pet.
Why hasn’t she done anything to save her?
They destroyed her childhood and massacred her village!
Why was she living in fear of them catching up to her instead of plotting revenge?
Wasn’t it all because she was weak and afraid?!
Mao Yue didn’t let her emotions show on her face.
She kept a straight face.
“Just don’t take my warning lightly.”
She warned in a grave voice, which led the others to be attentive to their surroundings. It wasn’t going to hurt anyone to be cautious, especially in such a dark place. No one was as prudent as Xie Yang as unlike the others who were occasionally scanning the area around them for danger, only to find nothing, he spotted a skeleton lizard that was crawling on the ceiling.
Xie Yang looked at it carefully and noted that it was glaring at them with murderous intentions. It suddenly opened its mouth wide, and sharp bones with sharp triangular ends shot out of it and charged towards Xie Yang and the people around him.
“Incoming!” Xie Yang warned the other as he brandished his sword in an upward swing, causing its white body to hit the triangular head of the bone.
Its trajectory changed, and it stabbed the ceiling, piercing a hole in it so easily that its sharpness came as a surprise to Xie Yang.
The others reacted on time thanks to his waning.
They deflected the sharp bones.
However, it spewed out even more from its mouth.
It was dark in the passage, and although the bones were releasing a silverish shine, it was hard for them to see from where they were coming.
“Assist me!”
Just like a bunny hopping here and there to annoy his foes to death, Xie Yang weaved to the left and the right as he dodged the sharp bones and closed the distance between him and the skeleton lizard.
After reaching below it, he jumped up towards it.
“Swoosh!”
Right at this moment, it released a sharp toothpick size bone with such force that it blasted through the air and came down towards Xie Yang.
This skeleton lizard obviously had intelligence as it was waiting for the perfect moment to unleash such a strong hidden attack.
Xie Yang was in mid-air and extremely close to it!
Thus, it became the hardest spot for him to dodge its attack.
It smiled.
‘I got you!’
Xie Yang responded with a chilly gaze.
‘MotherFuck you!’
[Small Spirit Bomb!]
He reacted in an instant and swung his hand– the one in which he was gathering spiritual energy before even stepping into the dark passageway–upwards.
