Awakened: The Spirit King! - Chapter 93
The sweet scent of the spiritual flower was obvious in the air, and it got stronger as they stepped towards it.
The Flower of Death was among hundreds of purplish flowers.
However, because Xie Yang knew what it looked like and it stood out from the crowd, he pinpointed it after taking a single glance at the flower field.
“Let’s move in.”
After detecting no sign of danger, Xie Ye signaled to Xie Yang that it was safe to step into the flower field.
Xie Yang nodded and said, “Okay.”
They both went up to it.
Xie Ye, who was on the lookout, kept looking around and releasing pulses of spiritual energy that washed over the flowers, trees, and insects in the air and told him what was in his vicinity.
Of course, he didn’t find any beasts looming in the shadows or hiding in the field.
It was so quiet that he thought that they were in a safe zone and not in the middle of troubled water.
Xie Yang turned to Xie Ye and said, “I will need you to help me uproot it.”
Before Xie Ye could think that he was abusing his status to force labor on him, Xie Ye added an explanation as to why he needed his help, “The flower of death is a sensitive spiritual poison, and once it comes in physical contact with an entity, it crumbles apart swiftly. The only way to uproot it successfully is to envelop its entire body with spiritual energy and then use it to pull it out of the ground before cutting its root with sword rays and putting it in a jade medicinal bottle. I can’t do that as I lack the necessary amount of spiritual energy. You may not know, but while it looks like a normal-sized flower on the surface, it’s actually as big as a small hill. You’re in the fourth realm, so you should have enough spiritual energy to envelop it entirely and uproot it.”
“I will give it a try.” Xie Ye outstretched his hands, and from his open palms, waves of spiritual energy rushed out like tidal waves.
Xie Yang hurriedly said, “Don’t try; just do your best.”
It was their luck to come across this.
If not for the fact that they were in a land where many had died, no matter how high their luck, they wouldn’t have come across it.
It was a spiritual medicine that developed in specific places, and Xie Yang never thought he would find it in the Glorious Sun Empire.
However, now that he had found it, he wanted to bring it back home no matter the cost.
After all, its roots were one of the main ingredients he needed to refine the spiritual meridian pill recipe, and its petals contained explosive but nourishing energy, which, if he uses correctly, would open all the spiritual meridians of his wife, effectively saving her from her miserable fate and healing all her injuries.
“It’s really big.”
After he used his spiritual energy to uproot the Flower of Death and took a look at it, Xie Ye’s mouth gaped open.
What hill-sized?!
It was the size of a small mountain and so big that the shadow it cast on the land shrouded them and half the flower field!
Xie Yang wasn’t shocked but somewhat surprised to see such a massive Flower of Death.
As it was big, it was bound to be older and better than its hill-sized version.
“Don’t lose your focus.” Xie Yang warned Xie Ye before brandishing his sword and using sword rays to cut its root.
Unlike the ghouls, it wasn’t sturdy like metal but soft like butter, and his sword rays cut it apart into pieces in a couple of minutes.
Xie Yang picked up the blackish roots and stored them in his storage ring while Xie Yang nestled the petals of the mythical flower into a wooden medicinal box.
“What now?” Xie Ye questioned.
Xie Yang replied, “I don’t intend to head back home without finishing the deal with the southerner.”
After a few minutes of Xie Yang and Xie Ye heading deeper into the forest, a low-level beast marked them as its prey.
It was hiding in a bush.
When they coincidentally reached close to its hiding spot, the Four-Winged Lion wasted not a moment before pouncing towards the weaker of the two.
Of course, for it, Xie Yang, who appeared to have fewer muscles than Xie Ye, was the weaker one.
“Dumb beast, you court death.”
Xie Ye narrowed his eyes as he called the beast dumb in his mind while the target of the beast, Xie Yang, pulled the moonlight sword out of its sheath and brandished it towards the neck of the beast with such lightning-fast speed that it thundered.
His sword, however, did not land on its neck as wooden branches with a metallic sheen at their super sharp edges burst out of the ground, deflected Xie Yang’s attack, and at the same time, pierced the beast’s four wings and its chest before going away and taking it with them so that it could meet its worst nightmare.
Its figure disappeared from Xie Ye and Xie Yang’s field of vision before they heard its terrified scream.
Then, there was nothing!
The foul smell of blood carried by the wind assaulted them on the face.
“What is it?” Xie Yang asked his stepbrother.
Xie Ye released a pulse of spiritual energy, which washed over the monster that assassinated the four-winged lion and described its physical features to it.
His expression crumbled slightly.
“A thousand-year-old spiritual entity is approaching us!”
A clearer picture of the monster appeared in his mind.
Xie Ye’s expression fell further.
“Damn! Of all the variations of this type of creature, the one coming for us is the Elder Devil Tree.”
Xie Yang’s aura sharpened.
Who hasn’t heard of it?
In the blue moon forest, this was the monster that the cultivators hated the most.
It looked like a 1000-year-old spiritual tree, but, in truth, an evil spirit was possessing it due to which it had not only one or two abilities but a few too many.
Thus, it was hard for even a group of cultivators to deal with it.
“It’s here! Be careful.” Xie Ye warned Xie Yang as, for the first time, he pulled out his weapon, which was a black spear that had a mouth with razor-sharp teeth instead of a pointy triangular end and thick scales and barbs covered it.
“While fighting it, don’t divert your attention.” Xie Yang said, “I can take care of myself.”
Xie Yang, too, pulled out his sword and held it in one hand while he used the other one to pop some spiritual energy recovery pills into his mouth.
He was trying to enter his best condition before he started fighting whatever it was that forced a fourth realm cultivator to take out his weapon.
Not long after the exchange of words between them, a long shadow rose out of the land shrouded by the shadows of towering trees and entered the spot illuminated by sunlight.
Xie Yang got a clear look at it.
It was a huge tree, three times bigger than himself and five times thicker. Its outer shell glowed with suspicious bright red, which carried a sweet but rusty smell to it. Xie Yang presumed it to be the blood of the four-winged lion.
Xie Yang’s eyes widened as spike protruded out of its trunk and shot towards him and Xie Ye.
“I will have a fierce dance with it in which you can’t participate, so sit back, relax, and deal with whatever it throws at you.”
While saying that, Xie Ye dissembled into tens of thousands of blackish flowers that swiftly twirled forward and met the wooden spikes.
The flowers were many, and the wooden spikes were too few in number.
The ones with the bigger number crushed their opposition before they moved forward towards the Elder Devil Tree.
The arcs of blackish lighting surging all around them gave off the desire to render all creations on earth!
