Be My Strength - Chapter 398
The guards felt worse. They would prefer it if DX blamed everything on them.
When they saw the Mercedes heading towards them earlier, there was actually four guards who were trapped on the same side as Kai Xin and DX. These three were the youngest of the guards. They had been begging for a mission for months, and so, on the last minute, they were brought over by the older guards as part of their training.
It was also one of the reasons why DX knew nothing about them and did not realize that they were on the other side of the trailer with Kai Xin and Jack earlier.
Two of them who were standing right next to her before the accident managed to pull Kai Xin and Jack away as far as possible. It was thanks to them that both Kai Xin and Jack did not suffer from being stepped over like what happened to some of the innocent bystanders.
After they made sure that she was safe, they wanted to stay and protect her but she told them to go and help others. She had seen how some people were trampled on when they fell earlier, and the guards who in the course of their duties, had actually accidentally pushed someone down.
When the guards refused, Kai Xin warned them, “Either you go and help them, or I’ll go myself! Don’t you dare tell me that I’m not your boss! Remember that I’m your boss’ boss!”
She hated it when they treated her as if she was a vase. Since she and Jack were safe, there was no reason why the guards had to be by her side constantly.
The two guards were helpless. They could tell that she was serious. After placing her at a safe area, they then went to help the others. They then signaled their seniors who were on the other side to let them know that Kai Xin and Jack were safe. It was because of them that the guards from the other side did not act immediately.
The injured guard was the third guard. At that time, he was too far from Kai Xin and Jack. Hence, he protected the boy who was near him. It was good that he did because the boy was too close to the wall. When part of the wall fell, he had shielded the boy and in the process, broke his arm and his leg was cut by a sharp broken glass from the trailer.
As he held onto his broken arm, the guard shook his head. There were tears in his eyes. He felt that he had dishonored his entire family who had been serving the Du Family for generations.
He gulped, “I saw her… but I couldn’t get to her… She was taken away in a black Toyota Camry…”
Even if he was injured, he should have stayed by her side. All the three guards wanted to hit themselves. They should have followed the protocol closely.
“Can you remember anything else? There’s no point thinking about it. Just tell me everything that can help me find her,” said DX. None of them had expected that this was not a real accident and he knew what Kai Xin was like. It was one of the things he loved about her, as well as one of the things that gave him a headache constantly.
He did not want to waste any more precious time trying to make the guards feel better about themselves. Time was of the essence and every second they spent talking about the past was to place his wife and son in another second of danger.
DX blamed himself for not foreseeing that someone would attack Kai Xin. His men had been watching Luo Han and Mr. Ye closely. Everything they used was bugged or hacked into. They were constantly under monitoring by Callum’s team.
He did not know who, but it was unimportant at the moment. He had to track them down as soon as possible.
The injured guard nodded. He then told DX the car plate numbers, the type, and the direction that they were heading as well as everything else that he could remember.
While DX was talking to the guards with his phone pressed against at his ear, Lyle looked around.
“My daughter! Where’s my daughter?! Have anyone seen my daughter? She has blonde hair and she’s wearing a red jacket with white stripes!” yelled a Western woman as she looked around frantically. When the Mercedes flew over, her eldest daughter was holding the little girl’s hand but before she could carry her little sister up in her arms, someone stepped between her and her younger sister thus separating them.
“JULIE! JULIE!”
The woman kept yelling as she glanced around. When she saw a poor young girl who was hit by broken glass and was bleeding from her neck, she panicked even more as she tried to move faster against the crowd. Her eldest daughter followed behind her closely. They ignored the cursing from the people in the crowd who were trying to leave the scene.
The woman’s daughter was barely a toddler and she feared that someone might step on that child by accident.
Lyle looked at DX but he was still talking to the guards.
He looked at his hands that were stained by his own blood. He felt weak. He won all the competitions but for what? In the end, he was just a weak boy who needed someone else’s protection.
