Beast Mutation - 16 Ch. 14 Adventurer Guild
Karol was standing in front of a huge building made out of wood next to the town hall. There was a huge wooden sign of sword and shield on the top of the main gate of the building, and below the symbol, there was ‘Adventurer Guild’ written in bold.
Entering the building, he smells a wave of a strange smell, and it was barely bearable. Looking around the building, he saw many people wearing iron, leather, and cloth armor sitting at the table with their friends.
They were chatting in a loud voice, and the building was also echoing their sound. Looking around, Karol saw some counter with people behind it at the opposite end of the building.
He started walking towards the counter and stopped in front of the counter with a woman with black hair and brown eyes behind it. “Hello, big sister Leah.” Karol said, bowing towards the woman named Leah.
As Leah was looking behind the counter, so she didn’t saw Karol coming. Turning around, she saw a fresh face in this guild, and looking closely; she realized it was Karen’s son.
“So, What brings you here, Karol.” She said with a wide smile as she was happy that he called her big sister. “I am here to register to become an adventurer.” He said, looking at Leah.
Hearing that, Leah was surprised as she knew Karen as she is a single mother. Hence, she earns money by completing herb gathering quests, and most of the time, she submitted her completion of the quest to her, and with her personality, she would have surely not allowed him for this.
“Did you get your mother’s permission before coming here.” She asked with a suspicious voice. “Yes, I have already got mom’s permission.” Karol replied as he understands her doubts.
“Okay then, here fill this form.” She said, believing his words and then gave him a form to fill. “Say, Why do you want to register to become an adventurer.” She asked as most kids at his age would have gone to academy instead of this place, and adventurer is not seen as a respectable job in this country unless you are a high-rank one.
“Right now, mom is a little bit of sick right now, so I wanted to earn some money for her before going to the academy.” He lied as telling the truth will create some unnecessary troubles.
“You are a mommy boy, as you always care about her before yourself.” She said as she knew about the dog for ten years. Hearing the Karol just laughed as he couldn’t deny that.
“Here, I have filled the form.” He said as the form just required to fill his name, age, and rank. “Okay, let me check.” She said, taking the form from him and giving it to someone behind her.
After that, she got under the counter and stood up with a transparent sphere in her hand. She put the sphere on the counter and look towards Karol and said, “Put your hands on to it and supply it with mana.”
Hearing that, Karol was looking strangely at her as he couldn’t understand its use. “It is used to check whether the person has done any crime that is the level of betrayal of this country.” She said, understanding his strange look.
Hearing that, Karol put his hand on the sphere and started to supply it with some of his mana. Then the orb began to glow blue. “You are innocent as this shows the blue light, and if it were happened to have the red light, then you would have been guilty.” She said, looking at Karol, and she put the sphere once again on the counter.
“Listen here, you have two choices, either right now at the rank of H or fight a beast same level as your and kill it or survive for five minutes to start at the rank of G.” She suddenly said, looking towards Karol with a severe face.
“What are the benefits of G rank.” He asked as he wanted to know as it was worth a risk. “By directly reaching the G rank, you will get more quests available for you to accept, and that means making more money.” She said as she knew he wanted to make money.
“I hope that you should choose that first option as you will get hurt doing the second.” She said before Karol could say anything as she was worried about his safety.
“Thank you for your worries, but I am going to choose the second option.” He said as he needed to earn money as fast as possible, and this way, it can help him. Hearing that, she was worried that he would hurt himself, but l decided to accept it as she cannot deny his choice.
“Hey, Alan, come here right now.” Leah suddenly shouted, and Karol was surprised by that shout. Suddenly a man came running towards them who was wearing a robe that also covered his face.
Reaching there, he removed his robe from his face. “You called for me, Leah.” He asked, huffing as he came here, running towards as fast as possible after hearing her shout.
“Of course, I called you here, so take that kid to the arena, and he is a low-level mortal rank.” She said, pointing towards Karol. Looking in the direction she was pointing at, Alan was surprised to see the kid of his age as it was scarce.
But he didn’t ask any question as it was too bothersome to ask. “Follow me, Kid.” He said, looking at Karol and started to walk away. “And yeah, don’t kid hurt the kid.” Leah said with a stern voice.
Hearing that, Alan just nodded his head and started to walk away after hearing her words. Seeing that, Karol also began to follow behind the man named Alan.
