Beautiful Monsters - Chapter 5
A few minutes pass by resulting in Safer coming out of the house from the front door while the rest of the group already started to drive their way to the Crystal Grilled restaurant. It wasn’t long until the group of four agents reached their destination, parking their vehicles in the empty parking spots that’s right in front of the place nearby each other. They end up getting out of the cars and start to walk up in a group of four to the entrance of the high-end restaurant that’s brightly lit up from both the inside and outside because of all of the lights illuminating in the dark night. Once the group of knowledgeable agents first stepped inside the restaurant, they get kindly greeted by the young waitress at the front desk. They all gathered around near the front desk in a formal fashion as Monica was the first person to say something, asking for a table for four. The waitress says “Sure just follow me, I’ll bring you guys to your table.” The waitress steps away from the front desk, grabs a hold of four food menus and makes her way to an empty table causing the agents to follow behind her until seated. The waitress then hands out everyone their own food menus and asks kindly, “What can I get you guys to drink to start off?” Angelica looks at the other agents sitting at the table and then looks up at the waitress and says “I think we’ll all have water please. Thank you.” The waitress nods then starts to walk away to get the cups of water for everyone there. After David rests both of his hands onto the table with his fists softly clenched together, looking at Angelica, she suddenly asks “What? Something tells me you’re wanting to say something pretty important so say it.” Both Safer and Monica look over at David as he starts to speak, saying “It’s just that we never really spend time together like this. Our social lives between each other aren’t as keen and solid we’d like them to be. It may be because of how many serial killers or rapists we’ve been handling in cases. Though we don’t like to admit it, those type of activities end up having an effect on us and I can tell.” The night went on as the intelligent group of four agents sitting all together at a dining table are seeming to have great time away from their harsh workplace. Laughter and smiles are shared with one another as they talked to each other about various topics. There’s enough conversation as there is eating the food. While they talked, there was the constant murmurs of close-to-distance conversations others were having while in the luxurious restaurant. Time flies by quickly then expected and soon enough after the food was all finished, it was about time to leave for the night. The check was passed out by the waitress once everyone was done eating their food so for some reason Angelica was one who offered to pay for everyone’s meals this time. She grabbed the check, started to pull out money from her purse and lays the proper amount of money onto the table; plus a tip along with it. Right after that, the group of four stand up and leave the restaurant together, eventually causing everyone to go home and get a good night’s rest. It’s the morning of the following day – when it’s time for the FBI agent’s to start to work. One by one the Behavioral Analysis Unit enters the Bureau’s doors from the entrance and make their way to their department room within the complex. Little did they know that they were just pulled into the FBI Director’s office for a specific case to be taken care of. His name is Zander Grayson, an older yet wiser person that’s experienced in solving murder-based crimes on a day to day basis. However this new case that popped up isn’t about murder at all so he hope that the BAU can handle it instead. There stood all of the four agent’s within the unit in front of Zander’s desk while he himself stood up slowly and laid both of his hands onto the desk below him to be more comfortable in his chosen position. Before that, he laid down a paper sheet of the cases details that’s been gathered. It appears to have the picture of the wanted man and his crimes listed below. The grayed-hair man gave a stern yet serious look to the four and then started to say “This case just came in at the last minute and I want you guys on it as soon as possible. Whatever you’re working on, yeah that stops now. You’re working on this now. That’s it. Now get out of my office please, I need to do some paperwork in private.” Monica picked up the paper sheet that was laid down and the rest nodded in agreement, all walking out of his office to go back to their own assigned offices. Though no one ever knew why he was always serious and took every little thing to heart nor ever questioned the man because he’s the boss in the end. You just gotta run along with whatever he’s saying and that’s what most people do when working for him. Once the agent’s get themselves situated in their departments meeting room, one of them pins the paper sheet up to a bulletin board where several other papers where pinned as well. The other ones ended up getting taken down so it wasn’t confusing for anyone until the point that was the only remaining pinned paper on the board. Out of nowhere David crosses his arms together and starts saying while he looks at the lonesome paper on the board, “Conner Milne. A deranged suspect of inviting people into his house and keeping them hostage in his basement to then collect the money off of their government paychecks.” Safer glances over at David, asking “Does he go for specific genders, certain types of people or just anyone he lays his eyes on?” David says back “Typically females for the most part because it makes him feel more superior to them when he tortures them which feeds his ego even more.” Monica starts to speak as she walks up closer to the board and points at the picture of the suspect, saying “By the sleazy appearance of the criminal, this shows that he’s living off the radar as we would phrase it. He doesn’t shave nor brush his teeth when he needs to which indicates that he doesn’t care about the smaller things in life. His only goal in life seems to be capturing and torturing.” Angelica replies with a statement, saying “Knowing that he probably hasn’t came out of his house in a while unless it was for the purpose of kidnapping another person.” David starts to say “You’re correct Angelica. Though we have his address, finding his actual house will be difficult because if he’s living off the radar then his home is in hiding or at least cloaked by a great amount of trees and nature. We should head out now since he doesn’t know we’ll be coming for him.” The four agents stand by each other in agreement with one another and start to make their way out of the Bureau so that they can continue with the investigation of the current case at hand though Monica had to stay behind because handling gun’s isn’t really her specialty. It took a while to find the location of the suspect’s residence but once they were there and out of the vehicle, the three determined agents slowly approach the cabin styled home with their pistols out and ready to fire at will. Momentum was rising within the heat of the moment when they’re approaching the residence because you don’t know what this criminal could be up to or if he has any weapons in his possession. When the several agent’s get to the door with bullet proof vests on, Safer knocks on the door twice then takes a step back with a pistol in his hand. It becomes dead silent for a moment to the point where you can only hear crickets making noises in the background until you could hear muffled screams of helplessness by the victims that are trapped within the basement of the house. Safer glances over at the other three agents then roughly kicks the front door down with brute force. The three agent’s quickly search the perimeter of the whole house except the basement. You could hear the same muffled screams again from down in the basement once more but this time it was much louder as if they were getting brutally tortured. Along with those screams came a man’s clear and firm voice, it sounds like he’s harassing and degrading the hostages. Before another scream for help could happen, the agent’s came rushing in through the basement door with their handguns out and aimed towards the suspect who is seen standing in front of six chained up innocent civilians that are all gagged with duct tape over their mouths. The ground and walls has blood splatter and mold growing on it because he doesn’t like to clean after torturing the people let alone clean at all. The twisted-minded suspect stands there in shock while holding onto a black whip of some sort as he looks at each of the agent’s. The man begins to speak, saying “You don’t know me.. You don’t know what’s it like to live without a wife! She’s been dead for seven years now and this is the only way I’ll be able to live with myself.” While the guy was done talking, Angelica begins saying “Drop the whip because whipping and torturing people like this isn’t going to help bring your deceased wife back. It’ll only put you further down in your feelings.” Safer continues to aim the handgun at him while he says “You know she’s right. Your wife wouldn’t want this. You can start today being a better man but you’ve gotta go to prison to start that path to greatness. That’s what she’d want, to see you succeed in life even without her.” Conner looks down at the whip in his hand for a brief second then looks back up at the agent’s as he thinks to himself. While all of this is going on, the remaining hostages stay focused on the situation hoping that the agent’s can free them from this crazy man. Conner starts saying “You don’t know what she would want. You’re only saying that so I can stop what I’m doing.” David glances over at Safer then looks back at the man in front of them. Safer starts to say “It’s the truth… Roberta would want you to stop but she can’t simply tell you that because she’s dead.” The suspect drops the whip onto the floor causing a light thud sound to happen after hearing his wife’s name. At this point he became speechless because of the bold statement the brave agent said to him. It was a wake up call for the guy. He finally comes to realize that he’s been doing wrong by his deceased wife and he wants to change that so he turns around having his back face the three agent’s and puts his hands together to make it easier for them to handcuff him. The twisted suspect is taken upstairs and out of his house to be thrown in the back of the SUV while Safer frees the several hostages from the chains and duct tape. All of the hostages are then taken out of the house and eventually put into a seperate police car where they’ll all be taken to the police department for reassurance of the situation and to find out what they about the criminal. The three agent’s end up taking Conner to the police department as well because there’s already enough evidence to lock him up for several years since he’s already convicted of other smaller crimes. Once the guy was handed off to the police department, the agent’s drive their way back to the Bureau with yet another case solved in the unit’s pocket. All that is needed to be done is to interview the several hostages to see what they might know about the suspect. Monica is seen calmly walking up to the three other agent’s that are in the interrogation room on the other side of the glass until an asian police officer enters the interrogation room with one of the victims in front of him. The female victim takes a seat on the chair on the right side of the table with a worried expression on her face. As she sat down, the small group of agents decide that David should be the first to interview the woman. The wise agent exits the room to enter the actual interrogation room and ends up sitting down on the chair that’s on the other side of the table. “We know you’re scared Lucy but it’s over now. He’s going to prison for a very long time so there’s no need to worry anymore but there are some things we’d like to know from you about the criminal such as how long he’s been doing this for and other information of that nature”,David stated shortly after he sat down. Lucy says back in a unsure tone, “Well…I’d like to think he’s been doing this kidnapping stuff since a year ago because one of his older hostages that has died recently let me know that before passing away.” Both of their voices is coming clearly through the speaker inside of the room that’s on the other side of the glass so that the three other agent’s can listen to their conversation in whole. David begins to ask, “Alright but what about the amount of hostages he’s taken in?” Lucy looks down in shame at first before looking back up at David, saying “Except for the woman who died, it was just us six so that make’s seven in total.” David stands up from off the chair and thanks the lady for her cooperation before leaving the interrogation room to go back into the other room where the other remaining agents are. All of the agent’s interview each of the hostages one by one with different questions at hand which ends up giving them all of the information they needed. Once the interviews were over with, the team of four group back up at the BAU meeting room to finish some required paperwork for the case. After about half an hour of doing paperwork for the case, Angelica suddenly gets a phone call from a close friend of Abiah who apparently wanted to know what happened to her since her name was all over the news. She tells him that she’ll come to his house in person to tell him the unfortunate news and hangs up the phone quickly after that. The three other agent’s in the room with her decide to stay behind at the Bureau while Angelica goes over to Nathens house to deal with him going through the death of his friend. By the time the intelligent woman gets there, she knocks on the door two times which causes Nathen to slide the door open from inside of the house and greets her with a welcoming nod. “Hey. Come on in… So what’s this Abiah being in the news thing all about? Is she okay?” The man gains a worried expression on his face after asking that question – hoping that she is indeed okay and that he was worrying for nothing. She begins to walk further ahead until she takes a seat on his couch nearby where he’s standing and says, “That’s the thing Nathen. She’s not okay at all, in fact, she’s rather dead. She was killed not too long ago actually and that’s why the news channel is covering her story.” The two-way conversation goes into the smaller details as to why it happened and what exactly happened that day of her death. The friend of Abiah was brought to tears once he heard the truth about what happened. He’s never lost such a close friend before like this so it’s hard for him to handle the unforgiving situation. The female agent makes her way to the agency to continue required paperwork for the completed case. The scene suddenly shifts to later on in the day to a point where it’s considered working overtime. You can hear the footsteps of someone walking outside on black asphalt with what seemed to be steel-toed boots of some sort. Your view contains only of the persons feet as they continue to walk forward – eventually you’re able to see the persons face and it turns out to be Zander Grayson, the Director of the FBI for Chicago. An ominous feeling in the air begins to occur while the man approaches a suspected drug deal going on in the house in front of him not too far away. Once he’s close enough, Zander opens the door with his handgun equipped on his hip as he walks into the home with confidence in himself. Several gang members and an infamous wanted drug dealer all stand up from the table they sat at once they noticed him walking in. All of the criminals take their weapons out and point it directly at him but he was too quick with his movements, rolling on the floor just once to the right side and stands up straight walking towards the group as he begins shooting at them in an accurate yet fast pace. Because of the roll he did upon entrance, they miss their first shots at him which causes their bullets to penetrate against the houses wall and before the criminals could even react once again, all you can see is Zander’s bullets hitting every single person in the house except just for one person who ducked down underneath the table and made their way behind the kitchen counter because they didn’t have a weapon to defend themselves with so the best option was to escape while they have the chance. However by the time most of the group was killed, the last remaining thug peeks his head above the kitchen counter slightly to see what had happened and if he can make a run for it. Zander ends up turning around and shooting the last person in the head with one single bullet as they peeked out from the kitchen. The remaining criminals body falls down to the floor after blood splatters onto the kitchens walls. Once the whole room was cleared of dangerous thugs, the agent turns his head towards the front door and walks out the entrance like that was nothing for the guy. A handful of cop vehicles stand by parked right in front of the houses driveway as they obtain the go ahead signal to go inside the house. Once he knew it was safe to do so, the Director then holsters the weapon back onto left side side of his hip. After that, he stands there above the several dead corpses looking down at them as if he felt bad that this is what he deals with on a daily basis – taking the life away from people who have bad choices but any normal person would rather have this happen than letting those criminals kill innocent beings. Suddenly while looking down at the bloodied corpses below him, he closes his eyes for a moment and see’s a flashback of his daughter and wife sitting there at a dinner table who are waiting for him to come over to them as he’s at the kitchen counter but before he could turn around to face them, they’re lives we’re ended quickly by a complete stranger who ran off into the distance after jumping their backyard fence. All you heard was four gunshots which came from the opened backyard door entrance and then followed their screams of their misery as he turned around without hesitation and ran towards his injured family. Once he got close to them, he kneeled down on one knee and grabbed a firm hold onto his wife’s hand while he sat there weeping in tears because of what just happened. As he opens his eyes, Zander comes back to reality and puts his hand onto his head because it felt like he had a headache. It wasn’t long until two police cars pulled up to the front of the house and proceeded to enter the house while Zander leaves the house and walks up to the Deputy Sheriff, Antonio Lee, who is seen outside standing near the assigned police car. Antonio begins to question the director if he had dealt with the criminals himself and it had seemed like Zander was planning on walking past behind the guy before he did, he stopped and looked over at him, saying “They’re all yours now buddy.” The director then gave the sheriff a tap on the shoulder and kept on forward to his own car walking after that. Antonio takes a look back at the strange man who had been in charge of the FBI for a while now and questions why he acts the way he does but he quickly throws it to the side of the his mind and focuses on the task at hand which is to deal with the crime scene so he proceeds to do so. Zander approaches his squad car and makes his way back to the Bureau so he could get in his own vehicle to go home which is exactly what he does within the thirty minutes. Once the intelligent man parks his sleek rose red Ferrari Italia 458 into the driveway of the massive house he owns, he proceeds to shut the car off and go inside to sleep for the rest of the night. A bright lit-up and beautiful morning came upon the city of Chicago the next day. The sun’s rays of light peered through the blinds of Zander’s room which causes him to wake up early at seven in the morning. The reader’s view suddenly shifts to where you can see a small framed picture next to his bed on a counter, the picture involves his daughter, his wife and himself in it who are all standing next to each other because they we’re having such a good time at a picnic. Time then passes by as Zander had gotten a phone call from Safer who’s inviting him to hang out on his yacht for a bit to catch up on life since today’s an off day at work. The offer seemed tempting so he decided to do it because his work life has been too stressful nowadays, he would love a distraction from it all. An hour had passed and before you know it, you can see Safer right along side Zander walking up to his white yacht on the dock while you can hear the strong waves moving around in the ocean. The two board the yacht and before Safer could start driving off into the vast abyss of the oceanside, Zander approaches from behind him in the driver’s seat room and says “This whole thing with my deceased family..” This statement causes Safer to turn around and face the man so he could listen to what he has to say. The director continues on, saying “It’s not a revenge thing at all but every time I bring this up to others they just turn their heads the other way and don’t believe me. I didn’t ever join the force because of that… It’s because I don’t want others to experience this same thing with their family – to go through this horrible suffering I’ve went through.” Safer says nothing and pulls the guy closer, giving him a big affectionate hug while saying softly, “We know don’t worry. With you by our side, we’ll make things right in this world.” Zander’s gains a shocked expression on his face after realizing he’s getting hugged for the first time in years but he grows to enjoy it after some seconds. After the hug, the two pull off from each other and looked at each other with sincerity in their eyes. “What we do everyday makes us hero’s for our city.” says Safer proudly right after the hug was over. Zander responds with saying, “You’re right.” The agent and the Director end up taking off into the sunset with the yacht until their in the middle of it and can see the city of Chicago miles away into the distance. The calm waves sway and rock the yacht gently as the boat was parked and came to a stop. It was clear as day that this was the beginning of a new chapter in their life.
