Before You Leave Me - Chapter 22
I wake up from the best sleep I’ve had in months, I reach for my phone hoping to have a good morning text from Lola. The bright light hurts my eyes immediately making me adjust the brightness. A text, but not a good morning text. It’s from Lola.
”Meet me at my spot ASAP.” it reads. Still having the urge to go back to sleep, it shove it off and reach for the nearest pair of shoes I can find. Keys. Phone. Shoes. Clothes. Now I’m ready to go. Barely remembering where to go, I finally make it. I open the half broken door to find Lola on the couch with her head in her hands. She looks beautiful, even when she’s in pain.
”I’m sorry it took me so long, I barely remembered the way over here” I start. Recognizing that I’m in the room, she lifts her head up to look at me. Tears falling down her face, her beautiful eyes red and puffy. She runs toward me, until she’s in my arms. Her grip around me tightens, I feel her trembling making me seriously concerned. I wrap my arms around her, letting her know that’s she safe now from whatever made her this way.
”Tell me what happended?” I say trying to look at her. I feel her grip get tightier than before.
”Lola? what happened?”
” I can’t. I just can’t ” she says, releasing her grip looking at me and then the ground.
”I can help, just give me the chance to actually do it.” I say firmly.
”No you can’t! No one can! That’s the thing! You know what… Just go!” she shouts.
”Lola I know that you cut yourself. I know that something’s wrong. Just please, let me help.”
Her eyes look at mine and she says nothing. More tears fall down her face as my words sink in to her. I walk closer to her, our faces inches apart. My eyes focus on her soft lips, no matter how hard I try to look at her. I reach my hand out wiping the tears still on her face. Her lips meet mine and we’re caught in the moment. She moves away just enough for her to look at me and say
”I love you”
