- Volume 2 Chapter 99 Guessing Game
After merriment with food, drink, and of course, music, the Big Hit family moved onto the main event of the day anticipated by everyone.
“Look look look!” Ahreum couldn’t contain her excitement as she held up her Secret Santa gift. It was a jewelry and makeup box. But it wasn’t just any simple box; this one was decked out with elegant and cute flourishes that would make any girl’s mouth drop open at how pretty it was.
However, it wasn’t for this reason that Ahreum liked it so much. No, it was how the box opened and functioned which made her squeal in delight. The box opened up in layers like a medicine box and could snap in place securely as well as unlatch and glide back together closed.
It was the closing motion of which that amused Ahreum to no end. Simply put it was so satisfying to watch, and the young girl liked these silly little things which made her happy.
Iris could only smile warmly at the giggling maknae. It was so cute to see her all fascinated and entertained by a closing mechanism, which, was indeed also pretty to watch because of how aesthetic the box was.
“I know EXACTLY which person gave this to me,” said Ahrie with joyful eyes and a smirk. “My makeup artist knows how much I wanted this after seeing it open and close in an ad. I practically blabbed about it every time I saw her, saying how functional but cool and pretty it was.”
The LUXIA members nodded, listening. Part of the Secret Santa event was to guess who gave themselves the gift. Anyone who guessed correctly got a bonus prize of 20,000 won (roughly $20 in US dollars).
But anyone who kept their Santa identity a secret got an extra 30,000 won (roughly $30 in US dollars).
Although this cash was quite small, it didn’t make anyone less competitive. In fact, prior to today, several instances of friendly in-company stalking were hilariously reported.
It was for this reason of possibly getting a maximum total of 50,000 won that the LUXIA girls came into the event hall holding one anothers’ to be gifted presents and not their own. This was so that any “spies” wouldn’t get any information from what they’re holding.
But regardless of the money prizes at stake, people were still encouraged to give a gift the other person would like. The minimum dollar requirement was 30,000 won spent on the gift or gifts as some did several little ones.
Of course, some people went over and beyond this rule, just like with Ahreum’s present which was worth more than twice that minimum.
“Man, I wish I had an easy to guess present like yours. I cannot for the life of me figure out mine, haha!” Cindy shook her head with a smile.
“Still, dope gift,” remarked Jiyeon. “Let use it sometime will ya?”
“….Even if I said no, you’d still use it anyway like you always do with my stuff!” Cindy hugged her gift and turned her body away as if or safeguard it from Jiyeon’s clutches.
They all giggled when suddenly Rinah remembered something and turned to Iris. “Oh! Do you think your gift was from Namjoon after all?”
Iris shook her head at Riri’s inquiry. “No, this doesn’t seem like the kind of gift he would give to me. I’d expect some kind of music-related item from him instead, not this music box.”
Ahreum’s face scrunched into confusion. “But isn’t this item still music related…?”
Iris laughed. “No, I mean like headphones or speakers for making music or something.”
Cindy rolled her eyes in mock exasperation. “You two workaholics are two peas in a pod. Both of you need to stop thinking about work for once!”
They all chuckled at her humor. Indeed, Iris and Namjoon always seemed to be working with how much they always thought about music and what tools could aid them better. They were both true composers at heart, thinking of ideas all the time.
“Oh well, guess I’m not getting that 20,000 won after all. It’s okay though haha because my Secret Santa will never figure mine out.”
“Oooh, sounds like a challenge haha! I feel for the person you got. Although… you didn’t get me right?” Cindy squinted with suspicious eyes at Iris.
“Oh! Haha! It’s not me. Although, oops, should I not be saying that?” She giggled, placing her fingertips over her mouth.
“Ehhh… guess we’ll learn at the reveal in a few minutes huh?”
They all nodded and proceeded to gather early in the center of the room as specified after distributing, receiving, and opening gifts.
In the end, Ahreum was right. But none of the other members got theirs. Although, Iris did get her thirty thousand.
Now, everyone was free to go figure out their Secret Santa by speaking and talking to one another. So, the LUXIA members did just that.
However, after half an hour, something wasn’t right. Iris still hadn’t discovered hers.
“Well…. this is weird. Did my Secret Santa ditch the end of the party?” She joked.
“Wait.” Rinah pointed. “It looks like Namjoon is coming over here. Seems like it’s for you?” She glanced back and forth trying to figure out RM’s line of sight and focus.
“Hello LUXIA,” he greeted with a warm smile. “Can I steal your Iris for a minute?”
Cindy scoffed and put her hands on her h.i.p.s. “Why ask? It’s not like you don’t do this all the time or anything…”
Everyone laughed. Indeed, Namjoon often stole Iris for composing and brainstorming sessions. They looked like two mad little geniuses wherever LUXIA or BTS peeked on them in the studio.
Leaving with Iris, Namjoon led her away on a quiet walk through the empty corridors as most of the people were still at the celebration wrapping up the festivities. Stopping at the top of a large flight of stairs, Namjoon finally addressed her.
“Do you have any guesses on who gave you this gift?”
Iris frowned at his question. Truthfully, she did have an idea, but it seemed too ludicrous to believe it was possible. So, she looked up and shook her head once.
“Who?”
Namjoon smiled softly at Iris for a second before reaching to grab something from his coat pocket and handing it over to her.
“He wanted you to have this too, but it would’ve given him away.”
