Bites & Addiction - Chapter 23:The Carnival Night
I’d decided to wear a blue denim jeans and a white t-shirt with a unicorn print on it. I chose brown boots and slipped into them.
After straightening my hair I went downstairs where I found Roman perfectly stood straight at the main door, looking like a model in a black leather jacket and a gray t-shirt under it with black denim jeans. Even His hair were a perfect mess that was giving him a high school boy like appearance.
His hands were in pocket and he was staring at the floor before I approached him, and then his eyes met mine. And suddenly I felt butterflies in my stomach.
They were fluttering so rapidly, and it wasn’t just my jittery stomach who was giving me an alien feeling, my palm also became clammy, heart started racing so fast against my chest.
He eyed me from head to toe and suddenly blood rushed to my cheeks. Nervously, I started playing with my fingers when his eyes drifted back to mine and fixed there for awhile intensely.
After awhile he said, ”You look pretty.”
“Thanks!” I reluctantly replied, tucking a curl behind my ear, “You too.”
What the- God! I’m really a brainless person. After zombie apocalypse I’ll be the only survivor.
“I..I mean you look handsome…as always.” I reluctantly chuckled. “I think we should go now.” With that I walked pass him.
Smirking, he spun around and followed me to the garage.
There were so many cars and motorbikes in the garage that got my heart—ferrari, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, SUVs and other more.
“You’ve got a mind blowing collection.” I gestured with my head towards luxury automobiles that were shining at the distance.
At the same moment, I felt his eyes on me.
“Which one?” He asked and I looked at him with ‘You can’t be serious’ face. Shrugging, he said, “You were the one who wanted to go out…so you pick.”
Smiling radiantly, I examined the expensive automobiles and suddenly something caught my eyes.
“How about that one?” I exclaimed, pointing at
Harley Davidson.
“Cool.” He amused. “That one is my favourite.”
When we strolled over Harley Davidson, he took out a helmet and placing it over my head he fastened it.
“Where’s your helmet?” I frowned when he seated himself on bike without wearing a helmet.
“I’m immortal, remember.” He gave me a ‘I-Am-A-Sassy-And-Snarky-Bastard’ Smirk.
“That’s not fair.” I pouted and seated myself behind him. “Why do only I disarray my hair while you not?”
He kicked start the bike and chuckled, “It’s immortality, my love.” The bike jolted into motion that made me jerked forward and for keeping myself in position I grasped his shoulders.
“You would’ve to squeeze me to death if you don’t want to fall back on the road.” He said with a mischievous glint in his eyes. And I did exactly the same as he told me to do.
I put my arms around his torso and hugged him exuberantly.
I felt his shoulders heave as he let out a genuine laugh.
A laugh that gave me heebie jeebies.
I leaned against him and propped my head on his shoulder. I felt his body tensed for a moment but became relaxed as I embraced him more firmly.
In that moment, I felt safe, Familiar, like our soul rubbing together—I felt home.
Once the bike halted to stop, I get off and unfastened my helmet. I let out a sigh after finding out my blonde hair was disarray. Roman had noticed that as he pulled the helmet away from my hand and after placing it on the bike he came back to me.
“Let me.” And then he finger combed my hair, while my lips parted open and eyes widened. ” Here.” He said tucking a strand of the hair behind my ear.
We were like this for awhile staring at each other as if no one was around us until a kid walked pass us, his mother running after him.
“Fast mommy, I don’t wanna miss fireworks.” The kid told his mother.
His mother ran over him and picked up into her arms.
“We won’t, baby. I promise.” She assured him and walked away.
I looked up at Roman, he was still looking at the direction where woman and her kid disappeared.
“You shouldn’t have brought me here.” He said in a low voice. “Each and every human there is like a walking blood bank for me.”
Clasping his cheek, I tenderly traced it with my thumb. “It’s okay. You won’t hurt them. Just trust yourself, okay?” I assured him and he squeezed back my hand. “If you can’t demolish your demon then learn to control it, ‘Cause we’re only haunted by the things we refuse to accept.”
“I can’t trust myself, baby.” He said.
“Then trust me.” I replied. “Just trust me for a night.”
“I can trust you forever.” He whispered leaning his head against mine.
A smile spread on my lips and I said, “Let’s role play….I’ll be Burger King and You be McDonalds. I’ll have it my way and you’ll be loving it.”
If I could, I’d bottle up the way he looked at me in that moment and I’d open it whenever I wanted a kiss.
I took hold of his hand and said, “Live every moment as if it’s your last.” And with that I dragged him with me till the angst atmosphere turned into something euphoric.
