Bites & Addiction - Chapter 24:The Carnival Night 2
I’ve always been fascinated by carnival. It amazes me how ordinary people set their stall and booth under the dark night and trade the best they possess.
When we entered through the door holding hand in hand—a faded music was playing at a distance, people were wandering from one stall to another sampling the merchandise, streets and stalls were decorated by neon lights, people were laughing and screaming at afar.
A group of teenage girls were crowded over a stall, grinning and whispering something each other’s ears.
“We should go there.” I said curiously as I felt a yearning of seeing it. I stepped forward but suddenly jerked back as Roman’s grip tightened around my wrist, pulling me back to him.
“No. We shouldn’t go there.” He said, his was low and rough.
“Come on Roman, we’re here to enjoy. Aren’t we? Let me see what is it.” I said with puppy eyes, “Please!”
His eyes went soft and he nodded. “Won’t touch anything, Okay?”
I grinned, “Promise.”
We walked over the stall passing through a crowd and when the girls moved aside I saw an old woman has been showing a small glass bottle to a girl.
“Don’t.” Roman said grabbing my arm as I tried to move closer to her.
“It’s Just a perfume, Roman. Relax.” Paying no attention to him I approached to the old woman.
She looked up at me and her wrinkled face delighted.
“What a beautiful girl you are. What should I call you—An angel.” She exclaimed, “Oh yes. An angel. That what you are.”
I smiled shyly and blushed.
“He must be your boyfriend.” She pointed at Roman that made him frown.
“Oh, No. He’s my husband actually.” I informed her.
She eyed him for awhile and said, “What a devilish personality. I’ve seen so many couples in my life but no one is that inconsistent as you two.”
I felt Roman’s body tensed behind me and his breathing accelerated all of a sudden.
“dealerul rău al morții” The old woman bellowed.
I was about to fume back but Roman grabbed my arm and dragged me out of the crowd.
I don’t care if she’s an old woman, She has no right to talk to my husband like this.
Roman must be feeling bad about that.
I mean who wouldn’t. She just called him an evil dealer of death. How rude.
“I’m sorry.” I apologised feeling guilty as soon as we walked out of the thick crowd. “I should’ve listened you.”
“Nothing matters. She was right after all.” He said running his hand through his hair.
“No. She isn’t.” I shook my head, “You’re not what she said. You never were.”
“You know what I am. What I’m capable of. You’ve already seen that Flora, I’m everything you can’t control.”
“Who said I want to control you?” I whispered and tiptoeing, gave him a peck on his lips. “I want you to control yourself.” His eyes softened and he smiled. “I trust you, Roman. I always will.” With that he clasped my face with his big hands and kissed me passionately.
His kisses are like a drug, spreading into my system so rapidly and I don’t mind getting addicted to it.
The time stood still and the world seemed to fell apart as he kissed me hungrily. The kind of kiss you’ll never be able to get enough. I wrapped my arms around his torso and leaned further as he deepened the kiss.
In the meantime, his phone rang.
As he broke the kiss and took out the phone from his jeans’ pocket, a line appeared between his brows and he said, “It’s important.”
“It’s okay. Attend the call.” I assured him, “I’ll be right here.” He nodded and walked over a distance.
I sighed and looked around to see something interesting.
In the meantime, my eyes caught a beautiful figure hanging in a booth.
I walked over there and scrutinised the mind blowing creature for awhile.
“How can I help you, Miss?” The booth owner asked politely.
“I want this.” I exclaimed.
“The peacock.” The booth owner chuckled and shook his head, “I’m sorry Miss, but you have to win if you want it.”
Immediately my eyes drifted to the hammer in his hand that he’d been holding for me.
You’re going to win that peacock, Flora. You’re strong enough. Grabbing the hammer from him I took a deep breath and with my all might hit the set up.
And my score comes out 6 out of 15.
I repeated it again and again but didn’t get enough score to win the peacock.
Suddenly, I felt a cringe at my spine and got uncomfortable when a bald man approached to me.
I felt a disgusting feeling as the man eyed me head to toe and then his eyes fixed to my breast.
“I’ve been watching you since you came here.” The bald man said. “I can get you that toy but in exchange you have to give me a night.”
“Go to hell.” I tried to walk pass him but he grabbed my arm and pulled me back to him. “Let me go.” I yelled.
“Let me go!” I tried to get free from his grasp but it got even tighter. “Ahh!”
“Oh come on, sweetheart. You’ll not regret it next
mor—”
Before he could completed his words, he’d been shoved away violently by Roman.
“How dare you to touch my wife?” Roman groaned as he shoved continuous punches on the man’s face until it got covered in blood. “First, I’ll break the arm that touched my wife and then every bone of your body.”
“Roman, Stop.” I walked over him and bent down next to him. “Please.” His eyes were blood red as he looked at me. “You’ll kill him.”
He grabbed my arm tightly that made me winced in pain and I bit my lip to control the unbearable pain. “Why are you saving him?
It seems to me that you’re so desperate to go with him. Isn’t it true, love?” he groaned.
I blinked away the tears that started shimmering in my eyes and croaked, “Y…You’re h…hurting me.” Immediately his eyes drifted to my arm he’d been squeezing so tightly and stood up. I followed his action and rubbed my arm.
“I..I’m sorry.” He said looking sideways. And at the same time, my eyes caught a sight of red liquid that just dripped from his nose.
I gasped, “You’re bleeding.”
He noticed that as he wiped the blood through the sleeve and backed away. “Don’t come near me.” And with that he walked away and disappeared in a thick crowd.
“Roman, don’t go away from me.” I shouted as I ran after him. I looked around through the crowd but I didn’t find him.
“Where are you Roman?” I croaked, “Please Don’t push me away.”
After wandering through crowds I exited through the carnival door, and then finally saw him…..as he disappeared into the woods.
