Bites & Addiction - Chapter 43:The Night Of Storm
“His flight is just landed on airport.” Dad informed mom about Bract who’s flight just landed in Washington.
We’re having dinner together, dad just got home from his office. “He’s doing pretty good over there.” Dad said and mom nodded. “If he’ll be honest with his studies, there is no doubt that he’d be the next CEO of Price Companies.”
I’m really happy for my brother that he’s doing great. He’s always been interested in business. When we’re kids he often like to sit on Dad’s Office Chair. Even though he says that when he’ll be a CEO, he’ll hire only female employees to work around him. But I know he’s serious with his dream because he’s the heir of Price and also dad is getting old, and now it’s time for him to take a leave.
Dad is always been serious with his work. He worked hard and build his own company. It’s been few months when our company was at the verge of bankruptcy and then Roman helped us. His intentions wasn’t good though. But he saved us.
“You’ve been a great employer dad. I know he’ll walk on your path and live upto your expectations.” I assured him.
“Don’t worry honey. He’s our son.” Mom acknowledged, “Flora is right, he’ll live upto your expectations. I trust him.”
In the meantime, my legs were getting heavy, and mom noticed it as she got up and helped me to stand up.
“Are you okay?” Dad asked with concern. He was also about to get up but I stopped him and told him that it’s normal in pregnancy.
My room was upstairs, so it took time for us to reach there because Mom wanted me to take every steps slowly and carefully.
“Good night, honey.” Mom planted a tender kiss on my forehead after pulling the sheets over me.
“Night, mom.” With that she left the room. I was about to turn off the lights but then my phone rang.
“What I bring you tomorrow?” Roman asked as soon as I pick up the call. I could sense a grin in his voice. He asked me everyday what would I want to eat, and then I tell him weird things like a mixture of pickle and strawberries.
“Umm..mint chocolate chip.” I said smiling.
“Really? What with Pickle-Strawberry mashup? Or popcorn with ice cream?”
“I thought I’d make it easy for you.” I teased him, “And also it’d be fun to break your legs.”
He chuckled, “You’re not that heavy. I—” I didn’t here what does he said because of the sound of dog’s barking.
Why are dogs barking at this time? They only bark when they see a stranger.
“Flora, are you asleep?” Roman’s voice brought me back to him.
“Yeah, it’s just dogs. It’s weird the way they barking at this time.” An strange feeling of confusion and fear started building up inside of me.
“Is your door locked?”
I glanced at the door and saw it wasn’t locked. “I..I guess not.” And then a feminine ear piercing voice echoed throughout the mansion. I flinched and panic rushed over me.
“Lock the door and don’t open it whatever happens.” Roman said hurriedly, “I’m on my way.” I got up carefully and closed the door with my trembling hands.
The voice, whose voice was it?
Shit. Mom and dad is also downstairs. What if something happened to them? I can’t just sit and wait here until someone comes for rescue. I need to do something. I need to go downstairs.
I was about to open the door but then someone knocked and I stopped. “W-Who’s there?” There was no reply from the person. My heart was racing so fast, Pulse beating in my ears, blocking out all other sound and palm already went sweaty. Still trembling, I stumbled back to the bed and plopped down before I fell down.
“It’s me, honey. Your mom.” I took a sigh of relief hearing a familiar voice. Thank god, she’s okay.
“Thank god, Mom—” breathe stuck in my throat as I saw mom on my doorstep. Blood continuously dripping from her neck. The thin material of her dress was covered in her own blood. Her face wasn’t showing any hint of emotion. She didn’t utter a word, and so did I. I was paralyzed to the spot.
Fear cripples me, freezing every muscle of my body.
I didn’t move until she stepped aside like a puppet and then another woman Came into view with a sharp knife in her hand.
Adele.
I took two small steps backward and in response she also did the same.
I steady my breath and try to calm the panic. “Why are you doing this?” I startled seeing the knife in her hand.
A corner of her mouth curved up and she traced the point of knife over my cheek. “You know the answer, bitch.” She said bitterly.
“I’m pregnant, Adele. Please don’t do this.” Tears shimmering in my eyes.
She grabbed my hair harshly and started dragging me through the door. “That’s a reason why he wants to kill you.”
Who wants to kill me?
“Does that ‘he’ is the one who tried to kill you six months ago?” I whimpered as she pushed my hair more harshly. I felt like she just wanted to rip my hair off my head. “I can help you if he’s still threatening you.”
She let out a humourless chuckle, “Seriously, Flora? You haven’t realised it yet that it was all planned to sabotage your honeymoon.”
What? It was all fake. The life taking attack on Adele was just an act. But why? What she’d get from that?
“Why did you do this?” I quizzed.
“I thought it’d be fun when your husband’s sweet little secret get expose.” She said, “And it literally would be a fun to see you two get apart if you weren’t got pregnant.”
“You don’t need to go that far Adele, He doesn’t love you.”
“But I do.” She claimed as we reached the stairs, “And when you died he’ll be mine.”
“He’ll never accept you.” I protested as she left my hair and grabbed my arm for dragging me further down the stairs.
“I know, honey. But there is someone who will make him.” She smirked.
She tilted her head in the direction of a figure which seemed familiar, his back was on us. And there was a body lying beside him, blood dripping from its head.
“Dad!” I ran over to the body in panic. “What you did to him?”
“Don’t worry, Love. He isn’t dead yet.” Came a deep familiar voice. “But he will be….soon.” With my blurry vision I looked up to see a familiar pair of steel blue orbs.
Silas.
