Bleeding Heart - 122 A New Normalcy
Arrion had woken up before his queen had. But even after he had wakened, he did not make any move to get up. It was just too nice to have his wife in his arms as she snoozed peacefully.
He watched her quietly, only slightly raising himself up so he could get a clear look of her entire face. She was really very beautiful. And it was not just skin-deep, even if she was a bit rough around the edges when it came to showing just how wonderful she could be.
Arrion happily buried his face into the crook of his wife’s neck and smiled to himself. He was such a lucky man. To be married to her, to be in a position where he could show his love to her easily, and most of all that she loved him.
As he was snuggling his face into her, he felt her shift away a little. As he slightly frowned wanting to pull her close, she suddenly turned around in his arms – facing him instead of away from him.
Her arms slipped around him and she embraced him back. Clinging to him and pushing herself up against of him. Pressing his lips against her skin, Arrion mumbled in a low voice, “Morning my love. Sleep well?”
“Uh-huh…” Her voice was still sleepy. Which sounded a bit cute and brought an even wider grin to his face.
Dawn was burrowing herself into his arms, as if she did not want a single space in between of them. Arrion stroked her head, tugging on her hair gently so as not to actually pull it. Her golden locks were incredibly soft.
After a few moments of this, Dawn peeled back from him and peered up at him, her eyes filled with such warmth it made his breath catch. He did not even think before pressing his lips to hers in an impulsive kiss.
His impulsive action seemed to please his wife who almost melted in his arms as she returned his passionate kiss. This was wonderful, having her so obviously desiring his kisses made his heart sing.
He felt greedy though. As wonderful as he found kissing her… he just wanted more of her.
They left their room sometime later. Dawn had slipped her hand into his which honestly made him feel very happy. And she was pressing into his side. This possessive, clingy side of his wife was something Arrion was not really all that used to – but he liked it. Especially after the way their marriage had always just seemed like a means to an end to her.
Arrion removed his hand from hers in order to wrap his arm around her. Her hands immediately grabbed hold of his hand on her waist and she played with his fingers in an adorable way that shocked him. He would never have believed it if someone told him his wife would ever behave like this.
He smiled and pulled her along as he walked. Being home was rather nice. Even if he was getting a lot of questioning looks from everyone they passed. Which took him a moment to realize what was causing that – everyone had thought him dead. His mouth twitched, that would be interesting to deal with.
Thankfully it did not turn out to be all that difficult. Lumnans were fairly used to their kings getting into weird situations, and so the fact that he was still alive just made them very happy and not all that confused.
It was a bit flabbergasting really just how quickly it was that he was soon performing his normal duties. By the time all their companions had left their kingdom even.
There was a change though. One that Arrion found himself enjoying. Instead of being the one to always seek out attention from his wife, Dawn was now seeking him out as well. She would even go into his study while he was working and just climb up onto his lap, where she would then proceed to help him look over his documents and help him out. And she would often volunteer to follow him on any inspections he went to make.
He loved how involved his queen was becoming in his duties. And he could tell that his people’s impression of his chosen queen was improving. Not that they had ever disliked her. As a whole, Lumnan’s were very understanding people, and the fact of where Dawn came from made them understand that she would take a while to ‘thaw’ out. But it was obvious that they were glad that day had arrived. For him.
Arrion felt warmth as he thought about how much his people really cared about him. It probably said something about his family that they had never had to put down a rebellion and he was pretty sure he was the first one to even have an attempt at assassination occur.
