Bleeding Heart - 131 Wedding Jitters
It did not feel all that long before his wedding day came to Lowks. Vixen seemed a bit more impatient than he was. Not that he wasn’t looking forward to having her tied down to him, but he was busy enough that time seemed to flash by.
There had been a lot to do before he and Vixen actually married. Setting up a house for her, while keeping her in the dark about it was a slow process. But he looked forward to surprising her. The house itself wasn’t that far from his parents’ house. He had figured that his parents would appreciate the closeness once they started having grandkids.
Then he had also felt like it was necessary to keep visiting Kuryzan, though he had let up on the teasing.
And then there was Vixen herself. They spent a lot of time together, discussing their future or just enjoying each other’s company. And both of them attempting to fluster the other at different times. Actually, Vixen was surprisingly easy to fluster. As easily as she could flirt, if he turned the tables on her and returned the favor she would get adorably flustered. As bold as her tongue could be, she was still just a maiden who was in love.
So before he knew it, it was the night before his nuptials. Lowks had been fine all day, but it just hit him that tomorrow he and Vixen would be wedded. The thought made him suddenly incredibly nervous.
He tried not to let it show, but his father still noticed. He was not actually that surprised when his father came into his now mostly cleared out room and sat beside of him; his entire family were rather perceptive.
“Getting wedding jitters, my boy?” His father patted his shoulder, a kind smile upon his face.
Lowks didn’t answer for a moment. He was not sure if he would quite call it jitters. Yes, he was nervous, but… well, maybe that was what this was called. “I guess?”
“It’s okay to be nervous, but remember why you are doing this. You love her and want to spend your life with her. Never second guess that. I’ve known men who have, and just skipped their wedding who regretted it before the day was out. Just keep in mind how much you love her and how much you would hate to see her marry another. Though, I doubt you’ll sleep that well tonight. But try to be more excited than nervous, ‘kay?”
Lowks smiled at his father. He was more excited than nervous anyway. Just the thought of the fact that by this time tomorrow Vixen would be his wife made a smile come to his lips. But he still was somewhat nervous and hearing his father talk about this made him curious, “Were you nervous when you married mother?”
“Of course I was. Had it even worse than you, I daresay. After all, there was more to consider, your mom being an elf, and me just a human… but she loved me and it was her choice for such a life, so I gritted my teeth and bore the fact that marrying her meant that I was dooming her to an early widowhood. I’m glad that you are marrying now, I do want to see my grandkids.”
Lowks laughed, and nodded, “Well, Vixen and I are planning on children fairly soon.” Just thinking of how flustered she had been when he brought it up made him want to chuckle.
His father talked with him a bit more and gave him some advice for married life before leaving him be to “try to get some sleep.”
His father was right. It was hard to sleep just thinking about tomorrow. Lowks ended up not sleeping a wink. Instead, he lay in bed for a while trying to keep from thinking about the fact that Vixen was marrying him tomorrow.
Eventually he gave up and just let himself think about her. He wondered how much she would tease him tomorrow. He rather looked forward to it.
