Born As The Emperor’s Daughter - Chapter 173
The night eventually came. Not even once did Alexandra opened her eyes and woke up, she just remained asleep since earlier but that’s better than her waking up because her head was aching so much or something.
Alexandra was transferred to a better room since the previous room that she was in was small and it didn’t have a bathroom which is hard since the bathroom was at the end of the hallway. The room that she was currently in was almost the size of her room in her palace, there was also a bathroom. There were a few bookshelves filled with books, couches and a table near her bed. The bed was also big and Alexandra was laying there, her eyes still closed.
Alexandra was to stay inside the room until she completely recovers from her cold. It would be best to stay here than bringing her back to her room in her palace since they don’t have any palace healers there. Aside from that, all they needed was here except for the clothes that Alexandra would change to. There wasn’t a single piece of clothing here that was her size and you already know the reason why. They would be the ones who will provide her meals and medicines just so she can recover. Diana eventually agreed but in one condition, she will also remain here as Carlos would guard the outside of her room. Since she was with the young miss ever since she was born, she knows her like how she knows the back of her hand.
Alexandra wasn’t used to other maids attending to her so it would be better if she stayed by her side the whole time. Alexander agreed to that and told her that she can stay in the room across Alexandra’s, Carlos, as usual, was the one who guarded outside. Even though he was tired and exhausted because of what happened earlier, he still guarded the room. He could just ask another royal knight who was on guard duty to guard her room but he didn’t. Even if he was told to rest, he still wouldn’t. How could he rest peacefully when the young miss is there with a cold because of his carelessness?
He could only let out a sigh and leaned against the wall beside the door.
Inside the room.
Alexandra was sleeping peacefully but her nose was red due to the cold. Something was happening without the knowledge of the knight outside and the person sleeping on the bed. A light appeared in the middle of the room and what emerged out of it was a kid, slightly taller than Alexandra, with his black hair swaying and his crimson red orbs that looked like gems and seems like it was glowing. He looked around the room with his eyebrows furrowed, his surroundings unfamiliar to him. He stood still on his position and his lips were pursed into a thin line.
“Where am I..?” Harrison looked like a lost kid as he looked around but his eyes darted on the person sleeping on the bed. It was indeed Alexandra but where is he anyway? This isn’t her room. Did something happen earlier? He asked himself as he walked towards the bed and looked at Alexandra. He surrounded the room with a sound barrier and the people outside couldn’t hear the noise he was making in here. He dragged a chair towards the side of the bed and he sat on it.
Did she caught a cold again? Her nose looks red, it isn’t even that cold, he thought to himself.
“Did you try to swim in a lake? Did you escape during the night once again while wearing only thin clothes? But why are you here?” He asked her as he played with her hair, twirling it around his finger as he stared at her face. Why am I even asking that to a person who is sleeping? He thought to himself and let out a sigh as he continued to play with her hair. He just came here to have a talk with Alexandra but she was asleep even though it was still way too early, she would usually be awake during this time.
He decided to braid her hair in the end, I still don’t want to go back yet. I’ll just remain here for a few minutes, probably 20 minutes or so, he thought to himself. Then Alexandra’s face scrunched and she turned her body around, facing him.
No, the braid, he thought to himself as he accidentally let go of her hair and she crushed (not totally crush though, more like she accidentally laid her head on the part of her hair where the braid is) the braid that he made with her head. Her eyes slowly fluttered open although her eyelids still felt heavy and her eyes were tired.
She saw a figure, sitting down on a chair in front of her. Is it Carlos or Diana? But Diana doesn’t wear pants, then what about Carlos? But Carlos would never enter my room and I wouldn’t allow him to, she thought to herself. She could only see the lower torso and not the face of the person. Is it one of my brothers? Christian? But why would he be here? She continued to ask herself questions knowing that she can’t answer it by herself. There was an aching pain in her head that interrupted her train of thoughts and she winced in pain. Her lips forming into a frown as she tightly shut her eyes, her eyebrows knitted.
“Are you okay?” A nonchalant voice entered her ears and the pain in her head gradually faded. That voice…
She lifted her head and her blue eyes met crimson ones. “Harrison?” She called out to him in a weak voice, her throat was hurting and she also has a runny nose. Her head was also aching in pain but the pain eventually went away, her eyes were tired and her eyelids felt heavy. “Yeah, yeah, I’m here. What happened?” Harrison responded.
“It seems like I caught a cold,” Alexandra said and she rolled over, her back against the soft mattress of the bed. The bed was so comfortable and soft, it felt new to her as well as the blanket that covered her body. Did Diana change the sheets and the blanket? She asked herself and she stared at the ceiling, her eyebrows knitted. The ceiling of her room was only a plain one, it doesn’t have any decorations and such.
Since Alexandra was asleep the whole time, she doesn’t know if she is inside her room or not. She stood up from her position, feeling slightly dizzy but she endured it, she looked around the room and noticed that it was unfamiliar and different from her room. “Where am I?” She asked in a low voice that sounded like a whisper yet Harrison heard it clearly.
“I should be the one asking you that. I just teleported to your location. You kept on sending me signals since earlier while I was asleep and the mark feels like it was burning my skin which eventually woke me up, what happened earlier?” Harrison asked her. The mark on his wrist that feels like it was burning, it only meant one thing. She was about to die earlier yet he was in a deep sleep during that time, trying to recover a few of his mana and energy. Harrison leaned back on his seat and crossed his legs as he stared at her, a crumpled look plastered on his face.
“Signals? But I never sent you a message.”
“Well, you’re not but the mark is,” It was like she was seeking for help. Looking for someone to save her.
Alexandra just hummed as a response and she recalled what happened earlier. Images flashed inside her head like flashcards making her recall what happened earlier and she felt an aching pain in her head once again. She hissed in pain and squeezed her eyes shut, I almost drowned to death earlier because something pulled me to the water.
— “… a flower that looked enchanting and beautiful. It is found in lakes. It charmed people with its appearance and when their victims get closer, they would drag them into the lake with their vines. Then they would eat them with their mouth hidden in the bottom of the lake.”
“It’s fine if you won’t tell me. I know that you almost died earlier but I don’t know what exactly happened,” She heard Harrison said and she turned her head to his direction. It was probably because of the mark, she thought to herself and she just showed him a small smile. “I almost died, I almost drowned to death and a monster was about to make me its meal.”
“Was it terrifying?”
“Terrifying what?”
“Almost dying.”
The thought of dying without no one or nothing to save you was terrifying. Harrison knows that although he still hasn’t experienced that, he just knows what the feeling was like. It was probably because of his past experiences. Alexandra was still a child yet she already experienced that.
“Yeah.”
“You can cry if you want.”
“I won’t.”
“Too bad, I was going to lend you my shoulder.”
Alexandra remained silent and she didn’t respond. She clenched the blanket that covered her legs before she let out a sigh, her grips loosening in the process, and she turned her head to face him. Her cheeks slightly tainted with a light shade of pink as she glared at him.
“T-Then maybe a hug will do,” She said, still glaring at him. Harrison let out an amused chuckle, she’s acting just like her brother. He was referring to Chandler, he was like this but he isn’t totally like this, he gets shy easily despite his tough and strong persona. He approached her and sat down on the bed, beside her. Alexandra just remained still and looked down on her small hands, staring at it without saying anything.
Harrison reached out to the back of her head with his right hand pulled her head towards his chest. “Other kids especially girls around your age are really clingy and hug you without saying anything even when you didn’t allow them to but you don’t. Act like your age sometimes,” Harrison said as he held the back of her head with his hand and caressed it.
“I know you were scared,” Alexandra just hummed and she clenched Harrison’s shirt as she recalled what happened earlier. She knew that her brother, Calixander, and Carlos was the one who saved her because he was there when she gained consciousness right after she got out of the water. She wasn’t hallucinating because of the lack of oxygen in her brain. If they saved her later than that, she would be in a critical condition right now. She doesn’t want to die again, her life was much better now and she was getting along with her family.
“It’s okay to be scared. You almost died and got eaten, it’s normal to be scared.”
“Mhm.”
“Would you like me to transform into Diana so that it would be more comforting and comfortable?”
“No, that’s creepy and weird.”
“I was just joking, I can’t do that.”
Unlike in her previous life where she doesn’t care if she died, she was just trying to survive in that life in hope that her life would become better and she still held a bright future. It was like she was doing a stay alive challenge yet she died because of an accident and she was born again as another person but with the same first name. A sob escaped from Alexandra’s lips and before she knew it, tears already started to stream down her face like water coming out from the faucet.
“Oh, you’re crying.”
“No, my eyes are just sweating.”
Harrison let out a sigh hearing Alexandra’s response and she just patted Alexandra’s head before he placed his other hand on her back and pulled her closer to his chest as she cried.
Nobody spoke. They were silent the whole time and the only sound that was heard was her sobs. Harrison didn’t say anything and just let her be. Somehow, his hug was comforting and filled with warmth.
