Born As The Emperor’s Daughter - Chapter 188 Welcome Back 2
A man emerged out of the door. His attire consists of a formal vest over a white long-sleeved dress shirt, and a tie around its collar, dark pants paired with dark plain shoes. He didn’t wear any accessories and looked proper although the expression on his face was grim and grumpy, his eyes were dead and empty and there were bags underneath it as if to show them that he hadn’t slept for days. He was fidgeting with the button on the sleeve of his left arm. Who is this man? Alexandra thought to herself as she stared at him.
“Your highness, must I really wear this and greet the princes when they arrive?” He huffed and his hands fell to his sides as he stared at the man who was carrying Alexandra. She heard her father let out a sigh before he spoke, “You are free and you rarely greet the princes when they come back. It’s a sign of respect for them,” Was what he said. She felt his grip around her tighten yet Alexandra didn’t complain as she felt secure in his arms. Not being able to contain her curiosity anymore, she whispered to her father’s ear, “Daddy, who’s that?” She asked him as she stared at the man.
The mysterious man’s gaze darted at her direction and their eyes met. Alexandra blinked multiple times as she stared at the man, her eyes with wonder and curiosity written all over her face. “My assistant. The one that I was telling you about,” Her father responded. Alexandra’s mouth shaped into an O’ as she nodded her head multiple times when she heard what her father has said. Alexandra smiled at the man and the man smiled back at her, but it was an awkward one. It seems like he already knew who she was even though this is the first time that they met, well, who wouldn’t know her? She was quite famous inside this palace and she got the looks of her parents.
He bowed his head to show respect, “It’s a pleasure to meet you, young miss Alexandra. I am Klaus Fertz of the Lacoste Bloodline, his highness’ assistant,” He said with his head lowered and Alexandra stared at the back of his head before she replied to him in a gentle voice and bright expression, “It’s also a pleasure to meet you, Sir Klaus. How is it working under my father for so long?” Alexandra was informed that Klaus has been working under her father for 12 years already, he became his assistant when he was turning 23. Being the youngest son of his parents, he wasn’t the one who will inherit the title Marquis from his father since it would always be the eldest.
He rarely gets out of his office. Since his bedroom and office were connected, he doesn’t have to leave or get out just to go to his bedroom, unlike Alexander whose bedroom was still a floor away from his office. He only gets out when he has to eat but sometimes his food was delivered to him in his office when he is way too busy with the paperwork that he needs to do, sometimes he would get out just to deliver the work that he has finished to Alexander’s office, and sometimes he really needs to go out his bedroom or office even outside the palace, he will. It’s either to attend some sort of a meeting for the emperor or something like that. His room was found at the end of the hallway of the 3rd floor. The distance between the emperor’s office and his room was large or far.
“It was hard yet fun, young miss,” He said in a nonchalant tone of voice. Alexandra looked at her father at the corner of her eyes for a moment before she returned her gaze at Klaus whose head was now raised and his eyes looking at her. “Is that so?” Was what she only said, running out of words to say in this situation. The cheerful and bubbly atmosphere from before was now dead and awkward as nobody dared to speak. This isn’t what I was expecting to happen, Alexandra thought to herself and she tugged at her father’s sleeve but he didn’t look at her direction and just remained silent.
“Your highness, it’s time to go down. They might be waiting for you to arrive,” Lysander, being the savior that he is, finally spoke and broke the silence that surrounded them. Along with the breaking of silence, Alexandra let out the breath that was held in her throat the whole time that they were silent. Even though their silence only lasted for like 15 seconds, it felt like half an hour for her.
Alexander nodded his head as a response before he started walking towards the door still carrying Alexandra in her arms, not wanting to put her down and let her walk. It’s much easier and faster this way and Alexandra wasn’t that heavy as she was still a child. Her dress though was thick and probably much heavier than her but she was moving in it with such ease. Alexandra didn’t complain and just let her father carry her, they were on the 3rd floor and the main entrance of the palace where they will wait for her brothers was far, walking would be too much of a bother.
“Let’s go, Klaus,” Her father said when he passed by him and he didn’t move. “Yes, your highness,” She heard Klaus respond and follow them from behind. Alexandra turned her head behind her and look at Klaus, her eyes wide as she tilted her head while looking at him. There was this forced smile on Klaus’ lips and his expression was saying ‘What is it, young miss?’ or something like that. Alexandra just shook her head and smiled at him before she looked in front of her and noticed that they were already going down the stairs.
I guess, he doesn’t smile that much, was the thought inside her head as she was being carried down the stairs by her father. They were just silent the whole time as they walked and the sound of their footsteps was the only thing heard and piercing through the silence like a spear. Yet this silence was different from before, it didn’t hold comfort nor awkwardness, rather it was just the normal silence everyone would have. Like when they are alone in a place and it was only silence that accompanied them. Just like that.
Alexandra just remained still in her position and leaned back on her father’s chest as she closed her eyes hoping that when she opens that, they are already in their destination.
Minutes later, they already arrived at the location and Alexandra’s eyes were still closed. She was enjoying the darkness in her vision and would rather not open her eyes to see her bright surroundings but it seems like her father didn’t allow her that as he called out to her and grab her attention, “Alexandra, open your eyes. We have arrived,” Her father said and with a small pout on her lips, she fluttered her eyes open and the bright surroundings greeted her sight.
She has to blink multiple times to adjust her sight to the brightness of her surroundings. How long were her eyes closed anyway?
Her father slowly set her down and she hopped off from his arms, the sole of her shoes slowly being set down the ground and she smoothened out the wrinkles of her dress. The servants who are working in the palace stared at her in awe, their eyes sparkling like stars as they stared at the young girl at the end of the line. Along with the servants were Alexandra’s maids, they were found in the line the maids made. If she doesn’t move and just remain still in her position, she might be mistaken as a porcelain doll or something. Her skin was like porcelain, soft, smooth, delicate, and her face was small like a doll adorned with beautiful not so sharp and not so large eyes and orbs that shine and sparkle like gems. Her eyelashes were long and when she blinked, it feels like her eyelashes were a butterfly’s wings fluttering.
Her silky platinum hair that was long and wavy was tied in two buns. The work of her maids, how wonderful. Aside from that, her dress, shoes, accessories, and ribbons that were tied on her hair was almost the same color, red. It wasn’t that bright nor was it dark, it was the perfect hue of red that complimented her skin and her beauty. Even though she was a child, she held such an elegant aura that could rival the popular and elegant ladies of the high society. She was young yet she was like a flower on its full bloom. Just wait until she becomes older and become a proper lady, she would be much more beautiful than that. The reason why his highness hid her from everybody was probably that she was too beautiful and pure to be tainted with such gazes, we understand that because if I have a daughter as beautiful as her, I would just keep her by myself and hide her away from everybody, was the kind of thoughts inside their heads as they stared at Alexandra.
Alexandra was breathtaking and beautiful even as a kid however, the person itself wasn’t aware of it and just think that they are being delusional and such. Alexandra, being used to their stares, just smiled at them and I swear, their souls have left their body when she smiled at them.
Although the princes, her brothers, were also as good-looking and breathtaking as her, they weren’t like this when it comes to them. Well, Alexandra’s personality suited her appearance, gentle, pure, beautiful, bright, cheerful, and easy-going. Unlike her brothers except for Christian, of course, they were cold as ice and always wear a blank look on their faces. But it’s not like they hate it, everyone has their kind of beauty. Even the emperor has his own kind of beauty.
“When are they going to arrive, daddy?”
“Probably a few minutes from now, let’s just wait for them. It’s not like we will wait for an hour here. Are you hungry already?”
“No, it’s not that. I was just excited and anxious to see them so I can’t help but ask,” Alexandra responded to her father and looked ahead of her. Her father just hummed as a response. Some of the servants in line were still staring at her, some smiled and waved at her to which she also smiled and waved back because she doesn’t want to look an arrogant person in their eyes. Carlos and Lysander were standing behind her, a few steps away from them while Klaus, her father’s assistant was standing behind her father, one step away from him.
How grand, a carpet was also laid on the path in front of them just for the princes. Well, it’s not like this is the first time that she will greet them. The gifts that she has prepared for them, Carlos volunteered that he will be the one who will carry them as to not trouble the young miss since there are 4 small bags.
Then finally, the carriage that they have been waiting for was seen not far away from them though it was small in her sight as it just entered the main gate of the wall that surrounded this palace. A grand carriage that is being pulled by four horses and coach, following behind it were 4 knights riding a horse each. The color of the horses that pulled the carriage was white while the one that the knights were riding was either black or white.
“Please welcome their royal majesties, the princes, on their honorable return from the academy!” They heard a man’s voice that boomed over the place and Alexandra straightened up. Excitement and anxiety overwhelming her whole system as she waited for her brothers to get out of the carriage and step down. A smile made its way on her face as her breath was being held on her throat, not wanting to let it go until she finally sees them. Her heart was beating loudly and fast.
