Born As The Emperor’s Daughter - Chapter 193 Bloom 2
And so the day of the Celebration of the Winter Star arrived. It was still early in the afternoon, Alexandra just finished eating her lunch all by herself and it was lonely. Being used to it, she just ate her meal quietly. Well, it’s not like she is going to experience this forever because once she makes her appearance or debut, she would be able to attend such public events including that. She just hopes that people wouldn’t think of her as something bad.
Well, if somebody dares to oppose, that means they are against my family and the Elders who approved of me. But even so, she needs to make a good impression, just because the Elders and her family, the one who rules this empire always have her back, doesn’t mean she can just do anything that she wants and let them judge her inside their minds while they act kind and good towards her.
Of course, the palace was busy as usual preparing for the celebration later evening while Alexandra just stayed inside her room like a princess trapped in a tower. Rapunzel? Ah, boring, she thought to herself as she slumped at her couch, closing the book that she was reading since earlier. Even though the book was just thin, she was reading it for hours as she keeps on getting distracted by her thoughts. Even though it was just a random thought, she would think about and waste her time with it.
Then she would read the paragraph that she stopped on over and over again without realizing it. That was how distracted and bothered she was. Her maids weren’t here to attend her as they were also busy preparing, they volunteered in helping them prepare as they weren’t just Alexandra’s maids but also servants of this palace. They couldn’t just stand around and do nothing as they watch them busy their selves preparing for the event. It’s not like they got anything to do when they are with Alexandra as she would just read books to past time. Her tea party with her father and brothers were canceled for today.
Since her instructor is also going to attend the event as she is also a noble, they have no lesson or session today so she was free the whole afternoon. She has the energy and motivation to do anything but what’s her goal? Read 10 books in one hour? That’s ridiculous and impossible except when those books are just as thin as the thickness of her pinky finger. Arthur is probably busy doing her task as usual because she rarely see him and when she does, she can’t call out to his name and have a chat with him because she would usually see him either carrying a stack of books or hugging a stack of papers to his chest while running as if he was rushing to deliver those things.
Aside from that, even though she meets and talks with her brothers, it would always be cut short because they would be either called by someone or they were in the middle of doing something. Alexandra felt like a child not given any attention by her family for a long time, she’s not used to it but this thing always happens when there’s an event so she doesn’t mind and just understands their situation.
She let out a loud groan before she placed the book down the table. There were a few stacks of books seen on top of the glass table in front of her, some were from her library, some were from the private library of their family while some were just from the bookshelf inside her room. “Boring,” She mumbled as she leaned against the couch and slouched.
Maybe I’ll talk to Harrison, she thought to herself and imagined what he looked like because that’s what he told her to do to successfully communicate with him through the mind. Imagining his pretty face, she sent him a message. [Hey, Mr. Pretty Eyes, what are you doing?” Was what she said inside her head, sending him a message. Feels like sending him a text message through a phone.
Then after a few seconds, she heard a familiar loud voice ringing inside her head and she could already tell who the owner was, [Oh, Alexandra. What’s up? Why the sudden message?] It was Harrison, obviously. Alexandra laid down her head against one of the couch pillows and huffed.
[I’m bored.]
[What would you like me to do? Use a spell to remove your boredom?] She could imagine him let out a short laugh after he said that.
[Do such spell exist? Unbelievable.]
[Of course, I’m just joking. I can’t come over there.]
[Why?]
[I’m being dragged by Luke and Jerich once again. They forgot to buy some things that they need for the celebration later. I don’t know why they dragged me though, they said that it has been a long time since I came out of my dorm and said that I need to see the sun.]
[Sucks.]
Was the only thing that she could only reply to what he said. It must be nice to have friends who will drag and take you out, she thought to herself, feeling slightly envious as her friends right now are all busy and she is trapped inside her room. She was about to say something when Harrison spoke once again, his voice loud and clear inside her head.
[I’ll come by later and bring you some cake and cookies.]
[You promise?]
[Yes.]
[Break the promise and I’ll break all of your bones.]
[How mean.]
Then there was an aching pain in her head after she said those words to him. The same pain that she would feel when she is with Harrison and she said something which happens often. She hissed in pain and buried her face against the pillow as she wanted to scream in pain. There were voices inside her head, unfamiliar ones yet the words that they spoke felt familiar to her. It felt like they were whispering in her ear and no matter how hard she pressed her palm against her ear to cover, the voices were still loud.
–“If you break that promise, I will break all of your bones.”
“You’re scary and violent for a girl. Couldn’t you be much gentler than that?”
“Then what about your skull?”
“That’s worse!”
Then after a few seconds, the pain faded and her features softened although it can’t be seen as she was burying her head against the pillow. She lifted her head and blinked multiple times, she heard a voice inside her head but this time, it was Harrison.
[Are you still there?]
[What did you do?]
[What do you mean?]
[My head was aching in pain so much earlier. Did you use a spell?]
[Don’t blame me. Even mine is still hurting,] Then before she could respond to him, she heard a series of knocks coming from the door which resonated inside her room, grabbing her attention. [I’ll be waiting for you later, someone’s here,] She gave him one last message before she stood up from her seat and smoothened out the wrinkles of her clothes as well as fixing her hair which was probably messy. She didn’t wait for another response from Harrison as she walked towards the door, the sound of her footsteps was the only thing heard. She heard another series of knocks and a voice spoke right after, it was Carlos.
“Young miss, Prince Christian is here to see you!”
She didn’t respond as she was feeling dizzy and she still hasn’t recovered from the pain in her head earlier. She was sure that it wasn’t a side effect for communicating through the mind because if it did, Harrison would have known and told her that. Even his head was still hurting while they were talking earlier. I’ll just ask him later about it, she thought to herself.
I remember this happening before but it stopped and now it suddenly happened once again, she thought to herself and a groan slipped past her lips before she held the knob of the door and opened it. The sight of her brother’s face with a gentle yet beaming with joy expression etched on it. Her expression was stiff for a moment as she stared at him while blinking multiple times before it softened and a tender smile was cast on her lips. “Brother Christian, what brings you here?” She asked him in a gentle tone of voice laced with curiosity as she spoke.
“I figured that you were bored and you got nothing to do except for reading so I came here to spend time with you. You just ate your afternoon meal earlier all alone and I felt guilty because I wasn’t there to accompany you as you eat.”
“No, no, it’s fine. I understand your situation, you don’t have to be guilty about it.”
“I see. Can I enter your room?”
“Ah, right!”
They were standing by the door for a while now and she still hasn’t let him enter. She stepped aside and widened the gap of the door for him as he took a step inside. Roaming his eyes around her room as she closed the door behind them before she walked towards his side. “Your room looks spacious and big,” She heard Christian commented as he looked around her room while standing still in his position.
“I think so too.”
Come to think of it, her brothers rarely come to visit her room. This is probably the first time that Christian came to visit her all by himself. Well, it’s not like she has already seen what his room is like. “Let’s have a seat, shall we?” Alexandra said as she noticed that they were still standing before she walked towards the couch while Christian gave her a silent nod and followed behind her. She completely forgot that she still hasn’t returned the books on its previous places so it was scattered all over the table and the couch that she was sitting on earlier.
“I apologize, my room looks messy at the moment.”
“No, it’s fine. Brother Gilbert’s room is usually messier than this whenever I came to visit his room.”
“His room in the dorm or this palace?”
“Both, actually.”
They each took a seat on the couch. Alexandra was sitting on the couch that she was on earlier while Christian was sitting on the couch in front of her. A glass table with a few stack of books scattered on top of it separating the two of them. Thankfully, she didn’t scatter those books on the ground just like what Harrison did a few days ago.
“Brother Gilbert’s room is always fully packed with different kinds of books. It feels like his room was a library instead of a bedroom. Some of the books were in a different language which I couldn’t understand. Most of them are about magic spells.”
“Magic spells?”
“Yes, I’m sure that you already know about what magic spells are. It’s common knowledge. Brother Gilbert isn’t that good when it comes to fighting physically, like using your fists and such. He isn’t that good when it comes to using swords and bows and he rarely uses his weapon which was made out of magic. It was just a small dagger which was suitable for him and it’s easy to use. He usually fights by using magic spells. However, Brother Calixander was good at both. He’s good at using weapons and using magic. You know, that destructive spell of his? The explosion one?”
“Yes.”
“That’s probably the most powerful and destructive spell that he can use and he couldn’t control it properly which means, he uses a large amount of mana just because he can’t control it properly. I think it’s a Tier 5 spell or more than that.”
Alexandra recalled the incident at the lake a few years ago. Even though she was unconscious during that time, Chandler has told her that their eldest brother used an explosion spell in order to save her. But then he was scolded by their father because he wasted a lot of mana and he wasn’t allowed to use any spells even the basic ones just to recover it.
“Then what about Brother Chandler?”
“Ah, that idiot is good when it comes to using weapons but he is bad when it comes to using magic. He’s reckless so when he uses magic, he couldn’t control it properly and it would always end in a disaster. There was this one time that he teleports to his room but ended up hanging upside down by the tree outside the window of his room.”
His last sentence was a whisper as if he doesn’t want anyone aside from her to hear it. She figured that he probably threatened or warned him not to tell it to anyone yet here he is, telling it to her. They look like girls gossiping, to be honest. Alexandra was about to speak when the door of her room was abruptly swung open and the person who did announce their presence loudly.
“I, Prince Chandler, has arrived to save my younger sister from a devil named ‘Christian’!” Then a burst of evil laughter slipped past his lips, grabbing the attention of the people who were sitting on the couch. Christian let out a sigh and he stood up from his seat, “If there is a devil in this room, that one is you.”
“I spotted the villain! Where is Alexandra?”
Alexandra let out a short laugh as she watched the scene. Then two people entered the scene as if they were the heroes that were late to arrive in the movie. “What’s going on here?” Calixander with Gilbert behind him arrived, the usual stern look on his face was seen. Gilbert was carrying a book as usual.
Now all of my brothers are here.
“Brother Gilbert, Brother Calixander, a pleasant afternoon.”
“A pleasant afternoon to you too, Christian.”
Calixander responded and Gilbert just gave him a silent nod. They spoke to each other in a formal way as if they were two people with different status instead of brothers however, you couldn’t deny how the expression on their faces brightened just for a little bit as they spoke to each other. Just earlier, she was lonely and she got nothing to do, and as if on cue, her brothers arrived like superheroes here to save the princess from her boredom.
And just like that, her boring and lonely afternoon turned into a loud and bright one.
