Born As The Emperor’s Daughter - Chapter 238
As the afternoon has already passed and evening came, Alexandra along with her brothers and father are eating in the dining room quietly.
They just started eating after all and they don’t know what to say to each other. Every day was like the same as usual, there was nothing interesting happening. Alexandra would only try to keep herself busy by reading books either alone in her room or with Christian in the library which they usually do, sometimes she would spend time with her friends, change the flowers in her room, or if she really got nothing to do, she would just sleep.
Calixander and Chandler would train, Alexandra would sometimes go and watch them. Carlos would sometimes plead just for them to leave or they might get hurt or affected as sometimes her brothers would duel or battle each other. Though she would sometimes notice that when Calixander is taking a break and not training with Chandler, he would go out of the palace and return with some cake which
Gilbert would be taking lessons from Sir Albert as usual which is why Alexandra rarely sees him during the daytime except when it’s time for their breakfast.
I wonder when Harrison is going to come back, she thought to herself as she ate silently. The unbearable and deafening silence conquered the whole room, creeping up to her skin. But contrary to the silence, the atmosphere was somehow calming and relaxing. She wasn’t feeling hungry as she ate so many sweets earlier with her friends as she discussed ways for Maribelle to be noticed by the person that she likes.
Alexandra reached out to her glass of drink, bringing it near her lips before she drank it.
Everyone’s in love nowadays.
“I now have a lover.”
Alexandra almost choked on the drink that she was drinking when she heard Calixander’s sudden declaration as they were eating. Alexandra immediately parted her lips with the glass as a series of coughs came and slipped out of her mouth.
Even her other brothers were startled by what their elder brother said. Christian dropped the spoon that he was holding, the loud clattering noise the spoon emitted as it made contact with the cold and hard surface of the floor was heard, as Chandler were almost in the same situation as her but he choked on his food and not his drink, he was coughing as well as her.
Gilbert just ate as he remained calm, it was like he was expecting for this to happen.
Their father paused and he stopped eating. Her 22-year-old brother finally has a lover. I don’t know how that happened. Like, imagine your stoic, cold, icy, and emotionless brother fall in love, it doesn’t even look like he was planning on falling in love with someone.
Silence dominated and conquered the room once again. Gilbert just continued eating as if everything was just normal but he can’t bear the silence anymore so he spoke, drinking water first and letting out a sigh before he did.
“Let me guess, it’s that girl in the café where you always buy a cake at? What was her name again? Lis… Lisa..? Lizzy?”
“Lisbeth. Lisbeth Graycole,” Calixander’s plate was already empty and he was drinking his glass of water as he leaned back against his chair with his legs crossed. Alexandra and Chandler have calmed down from their continuous coughing though Alexandra’s nose hurts. It was like the liquid went up to the insides of her nose and it just hurts. Chandler was probably feeling the same.
“Yes, Lisbeth,” Gilbert said and he continued eating once again. Alexandra looked at her elder’s brother’s direction, he was sitting in front of her and Gilbert was beside him as Christian and Chandler were sitting on each of her sides.
Lisbeth Graycole.
She was the owner along with her mother of that café that Alexandra would sometimes go to with her brother disguised as nobles just like what they usually do (they have to be careful though when they would roam around as they don’t want to experience what have happened before again), their cakes and baked sweets are actually delicious. Lisbeth told them that she was usually the one that bakes and comes up with the cake ideas and recipes. She was actually talented and amazing when it comes to baking and cooking. She comes from a noble family, a daughter of a marquis though they aren’t that quite known.
But she was a kind and beautiful person. Fair skin, small face, pink soft lips, gentle-looking hazel eyes, and long black hair.
Even though she knew that they were royalties and was disguising themselves as nobles so that they could do whatever they want outside without grabbing anyone’s attention, although they do always because of their good-looks and beautiful eyes, they still treated them the same. As just some normal people and costumers despite their status, she was also gentle and friendly but not to the point that she will step over the line.
It was that type of friendliness that they rarely experience as royalties. Everyone was friendly to them but there was some sort of hidden intentions that they try to hide but they easily notice, they are just after their status and fame. They think that they would get some sort of benefits or better treatment and status if they become close to them.
To Alexandra, that was disgusting and ugly.
However, aside from her friends, Lisbeth was only treating them as just normal people who want to enjoy their daily lives. Alexandra was quite comfortable and happy with that. Her type of friendliness doesn’t show any signs of disrespect as she remained polite to them.
She stammered, finding the right words to use in the question that she was going to ask him but only one word slipped out of her mouth.
“H-How?”
Well, you could easily like Lisbeth because of her personality and skills when it comes to baking. Her brother likes sweets and Lisbeth was good with that. Lisbeth and her family weren’t that problematic and it looks like they would always keep out of trouble, not wanting to ruin their peaceful life and staining their bloodline at the same time.
“What do you mean how?”
“I-I mean, that is rather shocking and unexpected. How did that happen?” Alexandra asked him in a curious tone of voice. The confusion was written all over her face.
“Yeah, that’s right, how did that happen?” Chandler asked, almost having the same expression as her, His arms were crossed.
“Who confessed first?” Christian participated in the conversation and added a question as he recovered from the shock earlier, picking up the spoon from the ground and asking someone to bring him another one as it was dirty.
It took Calixander a few moments before he responded.
“Me.”
Alexandra blinked multiple times as she stared at her brother. She has already processed what she has said but there were so many thoughts running inside her head that she failed to say anything as a response.
How did brother Calix confessed? I mean, he’s pretty blunt and straightforward but I know that he isn’t that type of person who would immediately say that he likes her. Like he might have those thoughts, what if she rejects me? What if she likes somebody else? What if she’s engaged with someone or something like that? That’s just normal, isn’t it?
But considering my brother who isn’t normal to me, somehow, he might be thinking of ways for her to like him and what he should do if he gets rejected instead of doubting and questioning themselves and their existence.
Even so, how did the confession go? How did he confess? Did he slide in a letter and asked her to read it later? Did he pin her on the wall, confessed, and kissed? That’s too wild, my brother isn’t like that. Then how? Just imagining my stoic, cold, and emotionless brother confessing was somehow impossible and making my head ache in pain.
Did he just confess normally? Asking her to meet him somewhere as he is planning on telling her something? Did he take her out somewhere and confessed? That’s romantic compared to my confession which I didn’t think of as the idea suddenly popped up inside my head.
‘Hey, tell him you like him’ or something like that.
But it still ended being successful and romantic as Harrison also bears the same feelings as her.
“How did you confess?” Christian asked. He just finished eating and Alexandra kept on munching on her food as she was in deep thought. Her plate was almost empty, her glass was half full.
“I just did,” Calixander shrugged as he responded.
“What do you mean I just did? You just told her your feelings? Just that?” Gilbert suddenly joined in the conversation, leaning against his chair. He was resisting the urge to raise his foot the chair as he finds it comfortable, however, their father would only scold him as it was bad manners.
Calixander was about to open his mouth to speak when a cold voice called out his name and they immediately recognized the owner of the person’s voice.
“Calixander.”
Oh, crap, I almost forgot that father was still here. Somehow, Alexandra felt nervous and anxious just by the sudden call of Calixander’s name by her father with his cold voice. A chill went down her spine.
“Father, I love her. Please don’t tell me you’re against it,” Alexandra looked at her father’s direction. Her eyes wide with wonder as she anxiously waited for the next thing that he was going to say. Her father’s eyes widened when he heard what his eldest son has said as if he wasn’t expecting that.
“Why do you all somehow look afraid? I’m not against it. I was just going to ask if you’re planning on marrying her, you do know that there are pros and cons with that, depending on the skills or character your lover has. She would be the empress, the mother of this empire, you do know that, right?”
“Yes, I do and I am planning on marrying her,” Somehow, Alexandra felt this tingling feeling in her chest and she was happy when she heard that. That sounds romantic.
Lisbeth would be his first and last, perhaps.
“Then I won’t raise any more questions. I’ll be leaving first, I still have to do my work. Don’t do anything stupid in this dining room,” Their father said before he stood up from his seat, heading towards the door to leave the room. His knight followed behind him and they watched him leave, closing the door behind him.
Right, father isn’t that type of person that would be against relationships and marriage that were made out of love. I mean, who would? Just by the fact that his eldest son, who is usually emotionless and cold that it seems like he is a person who doesn’t feel anything.
It somehow reminds him of that time that he fell in love with Selena, his wife.
Calixander was like his younger self and he recalled the times that he went to great lengths just so that his father would approve of their relationship. It became a success and by the time that he became emperor was the time that he also married Selena, a few months after his coronation. Fortunately, most of the people looked at their relationship positively and Selena was accepted but there are still some who don’t approve of it.
For example, the noble girls who were higher in status than Selena who was the daughter of an Earl.
Though they didn’t mind, they just ignored everyone who was against them being together. I mean, they’re madly in love with each other, why would they care for anyone who was against it?
Alexandra turned her head at his brother’s direction, grinning.
“So, tell me how it happened.”
“Don’t tell me you only fell in love with her because she was good at making sweets and such?” Gilbert asked him and Calixander scoffed and responded.
“No, though I admit that she is quite skilled with it but it’s more than that. I could say it was her personality.”
“Just personality?”
“Her smile and eyes.”
Alexandra couldn’t resist grinning more widely.
Everyone’s in love nowadays.
