Boundless Human World - Chapter 36 Unreliabl
The two cultivators stared at each other. Their earlier exchanges left both sides evenly matched. Now was the calm before the storm.
Shura had not been fighting with his full strength earlier. He had held back to see the bottom of his opponent’s strength. But now that he had fought him this long, he realized that his opponent was not someone he should fear at all. Not only did he not need to fear this opponent, but he was also capable of subduing them as well.
The formation he had set up along with the countless enhancement spells he had cast on himself had pushed him to a level of strength that was formidable enough to oppress the opponent.
A Six Star cultivator and a Saint had a halo of mystery around them and could be a threat to Shura, but not a Five Star cultivator, and not this hooded figure in front of him who was acting mysteriously.
Now that he knew he could easily take on this man, Shura was no longer cautious. Instead, he became excited. He was in a rush to proceed with his plan.
His plan was to somehow force the Saint behind the Five Star cultivator to help him find Claira. No, it didn’t need to be that particular Saint. Any Saint would be interested in this book. He could deal with anyone. The more righteous and upstanding a Saint, the better. He wouldn’t get scammed or die randomly somewhere when dealing with someone like that.
Still, one doubt floated in the back of Shura’s mind. What if a Saint couldn’t do it?
A Saint was the strongest existence one could become in the Higher Realm. If a Saint couldn’t do it, then he would have no choice but to once again cultivate tirelessly and somehow reach a higher peak of strength and ability.
This was the first time in his life that his goal involved others doing something for him. He did not like the feeling at all. It was different from cultivating to achieve something that he was used to. As long as he cultivated and became stronger, he could solve his problems by himself. The only factor was himself, there were no other variables either.. But this problem was different. He was out to convince another person to do what he wanted them to.
Who? Where? When? Why?
The end result wasn’t up to him, but someone else. He felt like he wasn’t in total control. Shura didn’t like this feeling. He didn’t like relying on others, because they were, by nature, unreliable. Why would they care about what he wanted? They only cared about themselves. He would manipulate them so that what he wanted was good for what they wanted.
It was all new and confusing to Shura. He really was a greenhorn when it came to interacting with people aside from killing or fighting.
But he had to do this. Since he was going to do this, he was going to make an unreliable thing reliable.
Coercion, blackmail, force, he’d employ anything necessary as long as he could get a Saint to find Claira for him.
But again, could a Saint do it?
The plan itself was ridiculous in the first place. How would he force a Saint to do his bidding? Use the book to negotiate? What was there to negotiate if the Saint can just kill him and take it? He still had to think through many things.
There were so many holes in his plan. But he couldn’t think of anything else better so he had jumped right into it as soon as he thought of it, and since he was here and things had come to this point, he couldn’t take it back. He’d have to see this through to the end.
And the first thing he had to do was deal with this man in front of him, which wouldn’t be difficult at all.
“Tell me everything you know about this ‘book’ and your Saint master and I’ll let you keep your life,” Shura declared.
“Are you crazy?” the hooded figure said in a disbelieving tone.
“I’ll prove that I am not then,” Shura replied.
He was impatient.
Shura attacked the hooded figure. Shura’s crimson sword danced about madly in the air. These motions, these slashes, they were things he had done countless times before against many enemies. Now they had become a part of him. It was easier and easier for him to fight.
He could do it! He could definitely do it!
All of a sudden a great strength and speed filled Shura. His strikes became more overwhelming and quick. The two swords collided faster and faster, and after each strike, the hooded figure was forced back further and further.
The hooded figure realized that he was not Shura’s opponent at all!
His enemy had been holding back! He wasn’t a normal Five Star cultivator at his own level at all, he had been tricked!
No wonder this cultivator waited for him here. He wasn’t afraid at all to fight a Five Star cultivator.
The Five Star cultivator was forced back. Before he could react and move his numb arms to defend himself, the tip of the opponent’s red sword was in front of his throat. In this situation, it was better for him to not act at all lest he killed himself.
“Are you convinced now?” Shura asked.
“What do you want?” the hooded figure said.
“Why, I already told you what I want. Remember it and think well,” Shura said. His tone was casual, but the look in his eyes was dead serious.
A similar scene played out. This Five Star cultivator wasn’t anything at all. He soon confessed everything. The information was similar to what the intruder told him earlier, albeit this time there were more meaningful details involved.
An upheaval occurred in the highest echelon of the cultivating world. The circles of Saint was profoundly affected. It was said that a mysterious book containing the secret to defy the Gods and become an Immortal had surfaced in the world. That book was the very book that Shura held, or so it was said.
Shura couldn’t believe it at all. He had read the whole thing and felt it with his hands. It was just a book, not a mythical treasure at all. It was just a normal book about relaxing. He couldn’t sense any mysteriousness at all. Maybe everyone was wrong about it.
But even if that was the case, it didn’t matter. It didn’t matter if this book was the real thing or a fake. As long as there are Saints that wanted it, he would use that to his advantage.
Now that his man told him everything that he knew, Shura no longer had any interest in him. He returned back inside his house.
Everything was clear to him now. He couldn’t stay here. He needed to move in the shadows until the time was right to act.
If only he was stronger, he wouldn’t have to be like this. Everything would be much easier, much simpler.
He would cultivate more. Doing it in a casual and relaxing manner without too much stress and seriousness should make everything better. He had always been under the impression of that doing things “harder” and with “more effort” was the way. But perhaps it did more harm than good. He was going to cultivate with a different style now. Shura hoped that it will cause everything to be better.
If it did, maybe the secret to Immortality was to simply be casual about it?
Shura began to plan his next moves. It was without doubt that what he held was the book that all the Saints were after. He would contact those among the strongest Saints. As long as they could help him find Claira, he would let them have the book.
But it wouldn’t be this simple. He’d have to do it in a way that wouldn’t allow the other to just seize the book and kill him. Shura didn’t know how to do this at all. He needed to think, to plan.
But he was very tired. The spells, the formations, and the fight. He was very powerful, but it had really expended a lot of energy. He needed to rest and recuperate.
Doing things with balance and knowing when to stop was good. He didn’t think he’d have any more problems with mindset and cultivation as long as he lived like that and relax.
Soon, very soon, he would be able to see Claira again. But for now a little rest wouldn’t hurt.
Shura laid down on his bed and closed his eyes. And like that, he fell asleep. Shura had a deep deep sleep without dreams. In it, he didn’t think about Claira, how to get a Saint to do what he wanted, cultivation, or anything at all.
There were no goals, no desires, nothing. He was relaxed, unconstrained, unfettered. It was blissful and serene.
