Chapter 97 Touchdown to Germany
As the plane began its descent towards Berlin Brandenburg Airport, the golden hues of the evening sun cast a serene glow over the city. It was 5:00 PM local time, and Michael Reyes glanced out of the window, taking in the sprawling cityscape that was now welcoming him and Bridget. Their journey from Manila, which took off at 7:30 PM, had spanned approximately 13 hours and 30 minutes.
“Ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are now beginning our descent into Berlin Brandenburg Airport. The local time is 5:00 PM, and the temperature is 22 degrees Celsius. We hope you’ve enjoyed your flight with us today. Please ensure your seatbelts are fastened, seats are in the upright position, and your tray tables are stowed. We expect to be landing shortly. Thank you for choosing to fly with us, and we look forward to welcoming you onboard again in the future.”
As the plane continued its descent, the buildings, roads, and landmarks of Berlin became more distinct. The vast expanse of the city spread out beneath them, interspersed with green spaces and punctuated by the iconic Brandenburg Gate and the Berlin TV Tower in the distance.
Finally, the plane touched down smoothly on the runway, the tires making contact with a slight jolt that resonated through the cabin. The deceleration was gradual, and as the aircraft taxied towards the terminal.
As the aircraft came to a stop and the seatbelt sign turned off, Michael and Bridget gathered their belongings, ready to disembark. Stepping into the terminal, they were immediately greeted by the cool, crisp air of Berlin—a welcome change from the tropical warmth of Manila.
“Welcome to Germany!” Bridget said, taking a deep breath as they made their way through the airport. Michael looked around, taking in the surroundings with keen interest.
“It feels surreal to finally be here,” he admitted.
As they walked through the terminal, Bridget led the way confidently, familiar with the airport’s layout from previous visits. They passed through passport control, where Michael presented his documents and as he was doing that, the officer asked some questions.
“Will this be your first visit to Germany?” the officer asked in English, glancing briefly at Michael’s passport before meeting his gaze.
“Yes, it is,” Michael replied.
“And what is the purpose of your visit?” the officer continued, as per the standard procedure for international arrivals. Gẹtt the l𝒂test 𝒏𝒐v𝒆ls at 𝒏.o/(v)/e/l/bi𝒏(.)co𝒎
“I’m here on business. We’re looking to expand our renewable energy initiatives and explore partnerships here in Germany,” Michael explained succinctly, proud of the mission but careful not to divulge too much information.
“It was said here that you are the CEO of the SolaraTech Corporation, an energy company based in the Philippines.” “That is correct, I also have Bridget von Reimann as its primary investor—”
“Bridget von Reimann?” The officer’s eyebrows raised in recognition, his professional demeanor momentarily giving way to a hint of surprise. “You’re with Bridget von Reimann? As in, the Bridget von Reimann associated with JAB Holding Company?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Michael confirmed, noting the officer’s change in tone.
The officer’s expression softened into one of respect. “Well, Mr. Reyes, it’s not every day we have associates of the von Reimann family passing through. My apologies for the formality. I hope your stay in Germany proves fruitful for your endeavors.”
“Thank you, I appreciate it,” Michael replied, slightly taken aback by the sudden shift in the officer’s attitude. It was a clear indicator of Bridget’s standing in the German business landscape, something he was vaguely aware of but had not fully grasped until this moment.
As they moved away from the checkpoint, Michael glanced at Bridget, who offered him a knowing smile. “Welcome to my world,” she said, a playful edge to her voice.
“Yeah, it must be so convenient to be elite in the business world,” Michael remarked, half in jest, half in awe of the influence Bridget wielded effortlessly.
Bridget laughed softly. “It has its perks, but it also comes with its own set of challenges. You will understand it soon in the Philippines.”
“Yeah…” Michael chuckled. “So what’s next?”
“Well, a ride to the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, right next to the Brandenburg Gate. It’s one of the finest in the city and perfectly situated for both business and leisure.”
Michael, having heard of the hotel’s storied reputation, was impressed. “The Adlon Kempinski, huh? That’s quite the place from what I’ve heard.”
“It is,” Bridget affirmed with a smile. “It combines luxury with history, and its service is unmatched. It’ll be a comfortable retreat after our busy days. Let’s go, I’m sure our ride is waiting for us outside.”
As they exited the terminal, Michael spotted a chauffeur holding a sign with Bridget’s name. The driver, a tall man in a crisp black suit, greeted them warmly and led them to a sleek, black BMW sedan parked at the curb. The car’s interior exuded luxury, with plush leather seats and a quiet, smooth ride that made the city’s streets feel like silk beneath them.
The journey to the Hotel Adlon Kempinski was short but scenic, offering glimpses of Berlin’s historic and modern architecture. As they approached the hotel, its grandeur became apparent. Nestled right next to the iconic Brandenburg Gate, the hotel’s imposing facade spoke of its rich history and prominence in Berlin.
Upon arrival, they were greeted by a doorman who opened their car door with a bow. The lobby was a testament to elegance and sophistication, with its marble floors, opulent chandeliers, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.
The check-in process was swift, with the front desk staff recognizing Bridget immediately and extending their hospitality to Michael as her guest. They were escorted to their suite, a spacious and beautifully decorated room with a breathtaking view of the Brandenburg Gate.
After settling in, Bridget turned to Michael, “Take some time to freshen up. We have dinner reservations at the hotel’s restaurant tonight. And meet with some key players in the renewable energy industry.”
Michael nodded, still taking in the luxurious surroundings. “Sounds good. I’ll be ready.”
As Bridget left him to unpack and prepare for the evening, Michael reflected on the journey ahead. The comfort and luxury of the Hotel Adlon Kempinski were a far cry from his usual environment, but he was here on a mission. The meetings, the discussions, and the potential partnerships in Germany were pivotal to SolaraTech’s future and his own growth as a CEO. Bridget’s support and the impressive start to their trip only reinforced his determination to make the most of this opportunity.
After freshening up, Michael met Bridget in the hotel’s opulent lobby.
“You ready?” Bridget asked.
“I am,” Michael responded.
