Cannot Escape the Devil - Chapter 19.2
****
“Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Asaya stared blankly at the ceiling, struggling to get up. Her body was heavy, and her head was blank. Frowning at the slight tingling headache, Lucia and Diana made a fuss wanting to call a doctor right away.
“It’s okay. I must have been unconscious for too long.”
“Are you really okay?”
“Yes, would you bring me a glass of water?”
“Of course! I will also prepare medicines.”
“Medicine?”
“It’s a supplement that replenishes your body. You have to take it consistently until your stamina is restored.”
Diana went out to get medicine and water, and Lucia guarded Asaya’s side and looked at her complexion. Asaya checked the watch then asked.
“How long have I slept?”
“You have been asleep for three days.”
“3 days…. so, I slept for a long time.”
“Do you know how surprised I was when the Duke came in holding you unconscious? No, why did you go there? I’ve told you many times that you shouldn’t go around on your own….”
“I didn’t mean to cause so much trouble. Please forgive me.”
“From now on, never again! This shouldn’t happen. At least tell me when you go anywhere.”
“I will do that.”
It was an unavoidable situation, but Asaya was uncomfortable that it had distressed the people of this mansion, including Diana and Lucia. Besides, she had been unconscious for three days. She didn’t know she would sleep for so long because she was a little overwhelmed.
“What about Riverarden?”
“It’s okay there now. There are fewer casualties than expected, and most of the dead bodies have been handed over to their bereaved families, and the injured are being treated. The villagers are living in a temporary shelter near Riverarden.”
Fortunately, the problem wasn’t so serious. Asaya sighed in relief.
“Is it completely finished?”
“I heard that the investigation is still ongoing. The damage recovery work is in full swing now, but I don’t think you need to worry much. The recruitment of workers was also closed, and a load of donations was collected. Only the priests got busy. The priests from the convent and the monastery are working hard to purify the bad energy. Well, it seemed to be nearly finished.”
“That’s a relief.”
“The world is bustling with the performance of the lady and your friend. The villagers of Riverarden want to express their sincere gratitude. There were also a lot of good articles with titles ‘Two heroes of Riverarden’.”
Heroes. Asaya laughed awkwardly because Lucia’s outspoken expression was burdensome.
“My lady, here is water and medicine.”
Diana brought the water and medicine and handed it to Asaya. Having received water and medicine, Asaya emptied a cup of water at once and then emptied the bowl of bitter medicine. Diana put the sweet, hardened honey in Asaya’s mouth.
“The Duke was very worried. Do you know he stayed by your side all day?”
“He stayed by my side?”
“As soon as he got back from organizing Riverarden’s work, he would stay in the lady’s room. The Duke must be very tired too.”
“The Duke barely slept. He looks sick. Honestly, I wonder who should worry about who.”
Asaya felt uneasy after listening to Diana and Lucia. She had been asleep for three days which means that she had left Edwin’s body for three days without care. Royal hormones are secreted every day, so she shouldn’t skip a day to inject divine power. In addition, his body was so sensitive that it could break down anytime.
“How is the Duke’s condition? Is it serious?”
“Well, it’s no different from the old days. He just looked a little tired. But actually, I’m used to how tired he looks.”
Asaya was confused. She touched her forehead and sighed.
“Don’t worry too much, lady. It has only been three days. I’m sure he has been cared for by other priests.”
It wasn’t very pleasant to see that someone else did what she was supposed to do. Therefore, Lucia’s words were not comforting at all.
“I have to go.” Asaya, who was getting up then immediately fell down. There was no strength in her legs. Diana and Lucia helped her get up and spoke.
“You just slept without eating anything for three days. Don’t overdo it.”
Asaya thought it was absurd that she was so vulnerable because she was only starving for three days. Often, outside the wall, she was deprived of food for more than a week. Still, she could walk on her feet just fine. The situation was much better now than then, but she was shocked by her delicate body. No matter how much power she used, her body was overwhelmed, but wasn’t this too excessive? Asaya, who was discouraged, soon corrected her thoughts.
“I’m hungry, can you prepare some food?”
“Sure! I’ll tell the chef right now!”
Edwin said he would be back in the evening. Until then, Asaya wanted to recover her strength as much as possible, so tonight she could resume her duty. No matter what, the contract conditions must be fulfilled. Asaya was anxious because she knew that the head of this contract was Edwin. She was worried that she would be kicked out because she couldn’t fulfill her role, or else that would be a liability for her family. Although he’s a cold person, she doesn’t believe that he’s that kind of person. So, she should not be preoccupied with the comforting thought that the favors that have existed were forever.
Asaya struggled to crush her heavy heart and rubbed her head. Anxiety had enveloped her. Instead of fulfilling her duty, she rested. There was no way the man, who was as hard as a knife, could let this pass graciously. She should be held accountable. But what terrified her the most was his physical condition.
“Will he be okay?’’
Asaya struggled to contain her anxiety, hoping that his body, like a time bomb, would not explode.
