When Steve entered the room, everyone stood up in attention. He scanned the room and saw that all the important people were in the room. He was fuming in anger since he left the meeting. The skillful hands and mouth of his secretary can only do much to soothe his anger. However, now that he saw most people he needed to have his plan materialized was in the room, his anger subside.
“I don’t have to tell you why I called for all of you. And I’m glad you all grace me with your presence. I’ll make sure that the nest will know your contribution and you’ll be rewarded accordingly.”
The men who were all squirming on their seats a while ago were suddenly invigorated with the promise of rewards. They knew that the ones in the higher ups were quite generous with rewards. It’s the reason why despite the danger of what they were doing, they were all here, letting the emissary of their support. For they all wanted to harvest the promised rewards.
“You can all go now.” Steve said as he sat down on the head of the table.
The men lost the smile of greed that was playing on their lips. They all wonder if they did something wrong and how it will affect their most coveted reward.
“May I ask why?” The oldest man at the table politely asked Steve who was casually sitting down.
“I only delivered the order,” he gave the old man a chilling smile. He watched as the old man quickly lowered his gaze and murmured an apology. He swallowed the triumphant smile that was about to escape his lips with what he saw and observed. These men, older and more powerful than him, were all lowering their heads because of their own greed. The promise of reward was all they needed to hear for them to sell their dignity, morals and even their souls. He scoffed inwardly with disdain. “Don’t worry about it. You’ll get your designated task and you all know how it works…” He scanned each and everyone’s face in the room. “The output on how you do your given task will determine if the reward you want will be given to you.”
The men nodded in unison. They all know how it works. They just needed to hear it once more to make sure. To a person full of greed, nobody wants to be taken advantage of. They all want to make sure that their hard work will pay off.
“You may all go.” Steve dismissed everyone. He didn’t move from his chair. He didn’t even watch them leave the room one by one because he had his eyes closed. He was listening to the scruple of the chair on the floor and the swinging of the glass door being opened and closed, one after the other. When the room became quiet, he slowly opened his cold eyes and landed on one of his men, standing guard on the door. “Where is Sparrow?”
“He went out to do his given task.” The man replied in a monotone voice.
Steve nodded and got up. “Is the plane ready?” He asked his secretary who had her eyes glued to the screen monitor of her laptop, watching the bank transfer that was happening simultaneously from all over the word to one account in Cayman Island.
“Yes,” his secretary answered without lifting her face from the computer screen.
He nodded to his men to move as he lazily got up from his chair. Things are happening the way he wanted them to be. He waited years to get his revenge and now it’s going to happen when no one expected it. He doesn’t care if the casualties are people who weren’t part of the sin he was avenging. He will get his revenge in any way possible. ‘He has to pay,’ he gritted his teeth thinking of the man that stole his woman.
He kicked the chair that was on his way as he headed to the door. His secretary, who was shutting down her laptop, flinched, surprised by the sudden outburst from him. He didn’t spare her a glance nor an apology. He continued walking lazily to the door, with his hands shoved deep inside his pocket.
He didn’t mind his surroundings because his mind was drifting to the past where he was treated unfairly just because he wasn’t the favored son. He was still treated unfairly because the favored grandson will take over the company from the favored son—the bastard who took the love of his life away from him. He will make sure to make him pay.
He scoffed when he remembered the scene in the boardroom earlier today. His brother greeted his son as if they weren’t fighting over the same position in the company. They were shaking hands like they weren’t mortal enemies. A father against a son. He laughed at the irony of it all. How his stupid brother and nephew could be that they couldn’t see how they were being manipulated by the Sly Tiefenbacher.
Soon they will know how foolish they are by dancing to the Sly Tiefenbacher who likes to play god over everyone. He gritted his teeth. If he didn’t play god, he wouldn’t lose the woman he loves the most. If his own father just mind his own fucking business, he should be the one who were chosen by the woman he desires, not his damn brother. If their own father didn’t play god with favoritism, he should be holding the CEO position in the company. If his stupid father didn’t get in the way of how he dicipline his own bastard son, he shouldn’t be shunned away by beating his son. He scoffed inwardly. How dare his own father play god when he himself couldn’t fix his own shit.
He waited long enough.. He refused to stay in the shadows anymore. He will show his father that he can’t play god for he is nothing but a pawn in his game!
