Capture - Volume 1 Chapter 38 Flight Of Fancy
This was the most spontaneous thing he had ever done, although it was nothing compared to the first time they met.
Kaoru sat in the crowded lobby of the grand hotel and looked around. In this foreign city, he couldn’t understand the language but people wore the same expressions everywhere. Excited tourists. Worn-out businesspeople. Relieved locals converging for an after-work drink.
A message from Akino appeared on his phone.
‘He is on the way back to the hotel.’
Anticipation and nervousness built up. Kaoru recalled the conversation three days’ earlier.
Keigo had been reluctant to take the flight out when his employees from a foreign office begged him to do so for an important meeting. He didn’t want to leave Kaoru alone.
But Kaoru convinced him otherwise.
He pleaded that the post-surgery recovery hadn’t met any bumps. Although his energy was low some days, that was not unexpected and was manageable. Kaoru was also due to be back at work full-time the week after.
When Keigo left home with orders for Kaoru to call him immediately if anything was off, a flight of fancy took root in Kaoru’s mind.
He needed to show Keigo that he was alright. He didn’t want to affect Keigo’s work or be a source of constant worry. Above all, he wanted to do something unexpected for Keigo.
Before he knew it, he had a plan.
His phone rang and Kaoru picked it up immediately.
“Keigo.” He was breathless from excitement.
“Is everything okay?” Keigo tensed.
“Yes!” Kaoru assured him quickly and kept an eye on the hotel’s entrance. “How was your day?”
“Work wise, fantastic. But I am ready to go home. Maybe I should catch the red-eye tonight.”
“Don’t!” Kaoru blurted. It was a good thing that Keigo had flown on a commercial airliner for this trip instead of taking a private jet.
“Don’t?”
“Actually…” Kaoru began. He could hear Keigo getting out of a car.
“You’re up to something.” Keigo sounded curious.
Kaoru’s heart leaped when the man walked through the entrance. Keigo looked relaxed and was smiling. He also turned a few heads.
“Actually, I’m here,” Kaoru confessed and stood up.
Keigo stopped in his tracks. He scanned the lobby and his eyes landed on Kaoru.
Kaoru gave him a little wave.
A stunned look registered on Keigo’s face. One of the very few times that Kaoru had seen him genuinely surprised.
It disappeared quickly into a broad smile and he strode over to Kaoru.
“Hello.” Keigo’s voice was low and delighted.
“Hello,” Kaoru murmured. An inexplicable shyness overcame him.
“What are you doing here?” Keigo shook his head in wonder.
“Surprise?” Kaoru gave him a little smile.
“Best damn surprise I’ve ever had,” Keigo remarked with laughter. He studied Kaoru for a moment, as if he couldn’t believe it. Kaoru’s cheeks heated.
Then Keigo took the handle of Kaoru’s small suitcase. “Come on.”
Another hand grabbed Kaoru’s to lead him to the elevators. A few onlookers stared but they ignored them.
Keigo’s hand felt warm. Kaoru’s chest felt warmer.
“You don’t have another appointment, do you?” he asked, suddenly worried, once they were inside the elevator. “Akino said that your calendar is clear.”
Keigo slanted him an amused glance. “Conspiring with my secretary now, are you?”
“I called your office to speak to her. She demanded to verify my identity,” Kaoru admitted. He told Keigo happily, “She’s very loyal to you.”
“Akino keeps me in line,” Keigo commented but there was fondness in his voice for his strict and no-nonsense secretary. “Did she scare you?”
Kaoru grinned when he recalled the initial chilling greetings which morphed into motherly instructions once Akino saw his face on a video call.
“Maybe a little at first,” he admitted.
Keigo chuckled just as the elevator doors opened. “But she’s right. I’m free tonight. This way.”
They barely got past the door to what appeared to be living room when Keigo pulled him into a kiss.
Kaoru wrapped his arms around his shoulders and closed his eyes. The kiss was soft and languid. A lover’s caress. A couple’s exchange.
“You must be tired.” Keigo tucked a strand of hair behind his ear when they parted. “Did you wait for long?”
Kaoru shook his head. “My flight only arrived late afternoon. Don’t worry. I’m fine.”
“Please tell me you did not fly economy.”
“I did.”
“What?”
Kaoru was puzzled. Then he realized. “Oh, that’s why Akino wanted to rebook my flight!”
“Listen to her in the future,” Keigo instructed.
“It was a short flight. That’s what normal people do,” Kaoru reminded him.
“You’re not ‘normal people’. You’re my boyfriend,” Keigo challenged.
Kaoru couldn’t help the swell of happiness. “I still got here.”
“That you did,” Keigo agreed and didn’t release Kaoru from the embrace. “What prompted this? It’s not like you.”
Kaoru knew that Keigo meant to tease. He wanted to give a playful reply but honesty prevailed.
“You’re always taking care of me. I just wanted to do something for you too,” he confessed tentatively. “It’s not much but-”
Keigo didn’t let him finish. Kaoru gasped at another kiss. This time, deeper and more passionate.
He shouldn’t be surprised by Keigo’s intensity by now but Kaoru found himself enraptured each time. He wondered if he would ever not be?
“God, I love you,” Keigo whispered heatedly when they parted.
Kaoru was going to return the same sentiments although he didn’t think those words were adequate to convey his feelings. Surely the magnitude and depth of what he felt deserved more eloquence.
But Keigo didn’t wait. He claimed Kaoru’s lips again fiercely, backing him against a sofa until they both fell into it.
It didn’t take them long to start removing each other’s clothes.
“Let’s stay the weekend,” Keigo said while unzipping his pants.
Kaoru was much too aware of his hands to respond coherently. “W-what?”
“I’ll show you the city,” Keigo continued, now pulling his pants down. He smirked when he saw how hard Kaoru was.
What city? Kaoru needed to survive his ministrations first. He sucked in breath when Keigo reached beneath his underwear.
Keigo chuckled huskily. “Excited?”
That woke a bit of rebellion inside Kaoru. He gave the man an evil eye and reached his hand out to grab Keigo’s own aroused member.
His lover hissed.
Then those eyes leveled at Kaoru. A sensual smile widened wickedly.
Kaoru was transfixed.
He might have just stirred more trouble.
“I’m..not going to see much of the city?” he asked weakly.
Keigo laughed and leaned forward to bring their faces close.
“Damn right.”
