Ceo And His Empress.. - Volume 2 Chapter 235 232. Legend..2
She had thought to protect him from the shadows, but she didn’t have it in her to let this chance go to be by her prince.
But she was still quite young, just 9 this year and hence, was put to a test…
The result, you ask?
Well, she was the child who had been working hard to protect his smile in the dark… she was the only person who could actually put her life on the line to protect him from any harm… she had a conviction and her goal was fixed.
If she needed strength to prove herself… she will just become stronger.
In the end, she was still chosen to be by his side… she literally forced her way through as she defeated anyone and everyone who came to fight against her!!
……
The prince was reading a book about the outside world which was brought back by his parents when they came back to the kingdom, as usual, he was fascinated by everything that this world had to offer… he too wanted to see the vast green lands, he was also tempted to walk in what they called a land covered with sand and also the lands covered with snow… but everything was just an impossible dream for him now…
But still, he wanted to read about them, it became his only escape.
He was inside his study that day when his parents came to visit him, he was about to stand up and greet them, but before he could do so, his eyes fell on the beautiful girl walking by their side.
She looked a little older than him and had this cold aura around her; her gait looked strict and disciplined and she even with that small body, no one could deny the pressure she was exuding… he was instantly mesmerized by her on the contrary, maybe because she looked like the complete opposite of him as a genuine smile bloomed on his face after a long time,… he didn’t get the chance to know it, but it was indeed, what romanticist called a ‘love at first sight‘, for him.
The girl was very beautiful, with a small face and small frame, she had long straight hair with slight curls towards the end, but he didn’t get deceived by her beauty, he instantly found that she was highly skilled, her footsteps didn’t make any sound and all her senses were on high alert without any blind spot, well, she was a trained assassin, her being like this was already second nature to her.
Like said earlier, everything was not like flowers and colours for him.. he also had his share of problems, just like any other royals and he had also faced his share of assassination attempts, but he was still fine… All’s well that ends well…?
He was always saved by hidden forces, but just once during an assassination attempt, when he was taken to a cold and moist place hidden deep forest of the kingdom, he remembers feeling cold to his bones but just when he thought he would succ.u.mb to it, he was saved by a child of similar stature.
The person was in all blacks and felt like they were a part of the darkness itself, except they had the royal insignia on their clothes, which definitely looked out of place, but they probably did it to show that, they were his allies.
He doesn’t remember a lot of it as he had fainted, but he knew that it was them who saved him and just one look at this person and he knew it was her, her cold face devoid of expression and a pair of beautiful dark eyes which could see through your soul, she was just a child, back then it was even more evident, but she carried herself with dignity like an a.d.u.l.t, Xuan couldn’t help but smile… he still remembers the hoarse voice of his saviour from back then, probably because they were not used to talking, but still, it made his heart warm up and feel secure, “I… will protect… you..”
…….
When they reached him, his parents introduced her as his friend, someone who will accompany him in his lonely days, but call it her loyalty or righteousness, she didn’t want to lie to him on their first meeting and directly went on her knees as she took his hand,
“It’s an honour to serve you, my prince, her voice was still as hoarse as he remembered, but quite fluent.. she must have practised it, he thought as his eyes crinkled up… He heard her continue.
“…From this day forward, I dedicate my life and soul to you and will serve you as your knight till the day I take my last breath, I promise to protect you with my life and will serve you with all my heart”, having said her vow, she put a pious kiss on his hand.
His parents were dumbfounded by her sudden vow and also how she didn’t ask them before disclosing the truth, but he saw her apologise before saying, “Prince Xuan is my master… it is beyond me to keep him in the dark…”, she was stubborn till the core, but hearing her reasons, Xuan could see a bright light flash in his parent’s eyes, they knew they made the right choice…
The time they spent together was fun, it was the best period in the small prince’s small lifetime.
Though she didn’t speak much, well, they both didn’t, but she was always precise and efficient; the prince didn’t mind her personality, she was very different from the others around her, but he was happy with her by his side, he felt like he could be himself and didn’t need to put a facade for anyone…
After she came by she took all the chores upon herself, she would wake him up, she would cook for him, she would be by his side every second of his day and even guarded him during his sleep.
With her by his side, somehow his health became a little better, the couple was indeed happy, but something was obviously not right!!
The prince was not sure and so, he confronted her directly, having spent over a year with her by now, he knew that she will tell him anything and everything when he asked her of it… and if she didn’t know, which was very rare, she would find it within a day or two and report it back to him.
So, on a pleasant day, he talked to her about how he only felt better after he started eating the food she made, he had waited for over a year only because he thought it was just a psychological thing at first, but these days he could actually run without fainting for a few minutes, considering he wasn’t able to last for 30 seconds earlier, it was a huge leap!!
Though she was a child, who turned 10 this year, she was highly trained and knew the ins and outs of this world, she made a thorough investigation and found out what had happened in a day… but the result made her blood go cold as the beast that had been craving for blood was released out of the cage!
It seems the prince was being poisoned.
She took it upon herself to investigate the matter and find out the culprit.
It was the work of the current queen’s brother-in-law…or more accurately, his wife!!
It wasn’t known to many, but for some reason, only girls were born to the royal family for generations now.
As the customs went, a husband for any princess born to the royal couple was selected at birth and was treated as the prince of the kingdom, as they grow up, the throne would be passed to the ‘princess’ with the highest merit and their chosen husband will get the title of the ‘king’.
In the shadows, this kingdom was actually matriarchial, not because of interest but because they didn’t have any option left.
The current king and his elder brother were not actually connected by blood, but were simply chosen at birth to continue the line… but as it stood, the princess designated to the second prince had died which also became the reason for why he went out of his way to roam around the world.
But the previous king was aware that his first daughter by birth was tyrannical, she made sure that her husband didn’t have any power and forced him to become a womaniser and someone who didn’t use his brain, she wanted to create an absolute regime where she had the final say… she had wanted to come into the light!
In normal circ.u.mstances, that would have been fine, it was her right, but at the current state, this kingdom didn’t need such dictatorship and hence, he went against the elders and chose the second prince who had shown his talent from an early age over his blood-related daughter.
As matters went, not everyone was happy…
Before this, in order to continue the line, after the death of the royal couple, the same procedure was to be followed, the strongest will be at the top and no one had any visible problems with the situation so, the princess hadn’t wanted to go against his father and thought to kill this ‘second prince’ after her father died, but with a son in the line, the situation changed.
