Ceo And His Empress.. - Volume 2 Chapter 236 233. Legend..3
The elders thought they could pass the throne to the rightful heir now, after all, even the elders were happy with the situation considering the firstborn princess of the previous king had only given birth to two daughters and they all had wanted a ‘king’ to lead them, as people with an archaic mentality, it has been very hard for them to get instructions from the previous Queens!
They didn’t need to follow the royal blood, the current kin and prince were accepted by the masses and the current queen was still the princess of another country… they could adapt to a new regime, even the previous king was in for it!!
But of course, the princess was had wanted her girl to be the next in line heir and hence all of this happened.
Her husband loved her a lot and has been turning a blind eye to her, he was hopelessly in love with her and even though he loved his ‘younger’ brother… he still, chose to remain the foolish prince.
The current king wasn’t made aware of this fact till he got the report from the young girl; he had always thought that neither he nor his brother resembled his father or each other… but he thought they might have resembled their mother or grandparents so, he never delved into the situation… who knew that the previous king had made sure that no one would talk about it, in front of him?
It was probably to make sure that he wasn’t guilt-ridden and also so that, this weird custom stopped at his generation… for the record, the previous king wasn’t someone who favoured a man over a woman, if not for his daughter’s exploits, he would have gladly given the throne to her!
The current king felt like his world views blew apart… he wasn’t sure which decision was the correct one!
Still, as the king and a father, he had to make the decision.
A royal decree was passed and the royal princess was brought to court for being guilty of treason.
…
The royal princess and her family were escorted to the court by the next day.
The moment she was asked to put her side of the story, she actually went hysterical and didn’t have an ounce of regret, she shouted harsh words and how everything should have been hers from the start.
Nobody had seen her like this, she may have been tyrannical, but she had always held on to the facade of the demure but strong-willed princess…
The king was distressed, this lady was still the real daughter of his late father and the wife his brother, if possible, he didn’t want to punish her… but she didn’t stop.
She even pushed off the guards and threw a dagger at the vulnerable prince!
The queen cried out as the king reflexively went forward to block it with his body but the bloody scene didn’t happen.
The dagger stopped a meter before it reached the young prince– it was blocked by his knight.
For the first time in months, he saw her expression crack as her eyes turned darker and a murderous aura was emanating from her.
The dagger that she blocked using the gap of her two fingers, in a fit of anger, was harshly thrown back at the woman, who was fatally wounded on spot… it seems, it was laced with another poison!
When she noticed this, she rushed to kill her but the young prince had stopped her at the last moment, the look in her eyes as she did everything to control her anger and hatred just to follow his orders sent shivers down the spine of everyone present!
The king finally lost all hope and exiled her for attempted regicide.
As everyone was shocked by the occurrences, only one person was actually very happy about all this.
It was the young prince.
He, who was supposed to be the purest of the gems and kind enough to be called a saint, actually didn’t care about what happened to the other person, he was only interested in the fact that she showed her anger for him… it seems, she really held him at the highest regards, just now she hadn’t stopped when the king asked her to but immediately halted from a single call from her, his knight was the best!
As for his actions, the royal blood still flowed in him and so, he was not stupid enough to act like Jack Stu and forgive that woman, his life had been on the line, just not asking his father to kill her was already benevolent!
After this, the story should have had a happy ending… but this wasn’t a fantasy tale.
He was poisoned from birth and his body had become far too weak to be saved by the current advancement in the health sector… he won’t live long…
Time flew by and before they knew it, 3 years had passed and he was already on his last breath…
“Meilin”, the emaciated young boy spoke in a weak whisper.
“en…”, she was still the same, till this date, she had remained by his side.
Her expression remained the same as usual, but it didn’t mean she didn’t feel anything, and it was actually because she was feeling too many things that she decided to hide everything by creating a cold facade.
“I’m sorry…”, he gave her a smile, it seems, any extra movement was chipping away his life from him, he looked extremely pale and fragile.
Meilin was shocked by his sudden apology, “eh?”
“I can’t stay with you for too long”, his voice was trembling, whether it was due to his health or, repressed feelings, nobody knows…
He had lived his short life striving to live just another day, even when the main culprit behind his health was found, he still didn’t get a happy ending; these past three years, it became hard for him to even get out of his bed…
Meilin had seen this child grow, she had come here with the current queen; she had known that this child will be hers to protect since he was inside his mother’s w.o.m.b, all these years, she remained in the shadows, protecting him, observing him… her whole life was dedicated to him… without him, she wouldn’t exist… her life would be meaningless.
Normally, when anyone said something along those lines, the usual reply would be ‘don’t say that… you’ll get better’ or something similar, but she didn’t speak a word… She would never give him false hope, she would never lie to him… as hard as it gets, in this world, she will give her life to get a cure for him, but they have done their everything… it was impossible in the end; the person who concocted the poison was killed and nobody was even made aware of what was used inside, just taking any medicine would be a gamble!
Seeing her remain silent as her twinkling orbs gazed at him, Xuan smiled, yes, he didn’t need false hope and lies, she knew him too well but he knew her too well as well; that facade never worked in front of her after all.
He sighed as he used his frail hands to wipe the tears that were flowing out of her eyes; he saw the shock in her eyes when she saw his sudden action… it seems, she didn’t even notice it till his hands touched her face, she thought she has been hiding it well, but she failed to do so, in the end, she was a human, a teen at her most sensitive phase of life.
Watching that soft helpless smile on his face, she finally broke down.
“Sorry, I’m really sorry. Even though I said that I’ll protect you till the end of my life..I couldn’t…I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you…I’m so sorry..”
He didn’t say anything, no words could comfort her, he knew that better than anyone, but he hoped that her bursting out like this would lessen her pain… she had been suppressing them for far too long so as not to worry him.
But watching her cry like that, for the first time in his short life, he felt like cursing the whole world…
Why was it him?
Why couldn’t he make her smile?
Why does she have to be this sad?
Why can’t they live happily forever?
Why were they suffering this much?
His eyes were cold, he hated this world… this world that was going to take her away from him… he didn’t want to die!!!
Nobody spoke for a while, but seeing her in that sorry mess, he gently patted her hand that held his own and made a vow,
“Meilin…I– I was unable to do it this time around… but I promise… I promise that if we meet again in our next life… I’ll make you my empress and love you with all my heart… I might be delusional… but if possible, I would have liked to have you by my side forever…ne… Meilin, it may be rather selfish, but will you still stay by my side… till the end…?”, he still wasn’t old enough to know what love was, but he was aware that if she became his empress, just like his mother remained with his father… she will always be with him… it was his childish confession.
Still, the last half showed that his personality had suffered a little blackening over the years… as it stood, he wanted her to follow him… till the end.
It was sad… but he would rather be selfish and oppressive than lose her… he was scared, he feared leaving her behind.
But it was his pious prayer as well.
