Ceo And His Empress.. - Volume 2 Chapter 237 234. Legend..4
Meilin was startled, but a moment later, a genuine smile bloomed on her face… with all that crying, the edges of her eyes and the tip of her nose had turned an enviable red as she gave the feeling of a snow-white rabbit plus that brilliant smile on her face made her look absolutely adorable–
“hmmm…”, she replied, “In our next life, I’ll defnitely protect you… I won’t let anyone harm you… I’ll become strong, stronger and more powerful than I’m now… I’ll make sure to make you happy and for you to live a long long life…”, it was her vow and her promise… her only prayer in this life.
She wasn’t sure herself why he asked her to be his Empress, but she didn’t mind following his whim… “…but I don’t mind being your empress as well…”, she replied in a small voice.
The two made a pinky promise and then she helped him rest for a while as he closed his eyes with a contented smile on his face….
The queen has been pregnant for 9 months now, it was all because Xuan repeatedly asked her to give him a younger sibling; it was clear to anyone that Xuan didn’t want them to become lonely, they themselves hadn’t wanted to have any other child, they didn’t want to forget Xuan… but in the end, they decided to have another child… Xuan was adamant and they wanted to give their child everything.
She and her husband had just entered the room when they heard their words and saw their unusual childish gesture; the queen couldn’t help but sob as the king’s eyes reddened.
They were still so young… they weren’t even aware of what they were promising and how their fates will be tangled after this small promise… but as parents, they wanted their children to remain happy…
Even if it seemed like a childish dream, if possible they wanted their wishes to be fulfilled and so, they prayed that the two could be happy if they got another chance… they have suffered a lot, they deserved to be happy more than anyone else…
……..
Meilin saw the queen enter with the king and excused herself for a while.
She stood outside the door and before long fourteen of her fellow shadow guards had surrounded her.
The state affairs of the kingdom have not been good for a while now; everything started close to a year or so ago; the court was in turmoil and even the citizens could feel the tension.
The king had asked her team to find out about the matter and they were here to pass the information to her.
Meilin heard the news and her blood ran cold as she looked at her fellow guards who she had sworn her brotherhood with; just like her, all of them were orphans and were picked up by the queen… she knew that unlike her, they could have a good future and so, after hearing the news, her first order for them was to, “Protect yourselves and the citizens of the kingdom. Ask the captain to protect the royal couple, I’ll be protecting Prince Xuan myself…”
The team gave her a look before nodding, they knew they had to work fast and by her orders, they knew that it was going to be hard to come out of this unscathed and even so, she wanted them to protect themselves first.
The eldest among them, a girl named Jasmine paused for a moment before she gave Meilin a warm hug, “Let’s meet again…”, her voice, hoarse…
The other girls in the team also came to hug her, but nobody cried… this was not the end.
They wanted to get together and share a meal again… this was their heartfelt wish, their prayer.
The moment they left, Meilin had a nostalgic smile on her face… she wanted to meet them again soon.
But the next moment, her aura cooled down as she entered the room.
A foreign enemy was trying to perform a coup and the spies, though killed by her team a while ago, had still infiltrated the palace for a long time now.
They had provoked the snakes, the best course of action was to protect the royal family first.
“Reporting to your majesty. We will have to leave this place soon, your lives will be in danger otherwise”, she directly reported, “…the culprit is the exiled–“, she didn’t want to continue… she shouldn’t have let her go that day!
The look on the king’s face changed instantly as the queen’s hands instinctively reached out to Xuan and the little baby in her w.o.m.b.
“The captain of royal guards will be here in a moment. Please, rest assured! We will protect you…”, her words concise and reliable.
She continued, ” I’ll bring my Prince out, you must go now”, protecting Xuan was easy for her, but she couldn’t guarantee everyone’s safety.
The royal couple believed in her and were about to walk out when they heard a loud noise from outside… this time was too coincidental and their faces stiffened before contorting into frowns.
Meilin sniffed the air and as expected, it was a case of arson; these people wanted to burn everything down.
Meilin didn’t have time to think, she directly tore her sleeve and passed two pieces to the royal couple and held another for Xuan; the prince and the pregnant queen were vulnerable in this situation.
The other party were aware that their fellow members were caught and immediately took drastic measures catching her off-guard.
But the shadow guards and imperial guards didn’t take long to come, part of the force had gone out to catch the culprits and so, they didn’t have many guards to begin with plus the safety of the citizens were to be taken into consideration as a whole so the man force wasn’t huge.
The other guards protected the royal couple and escorted the out as Meilin took the Xuan onto her back; she was a teen already and had grown quite tall, but Xuan has been very petite and frail, he wasn’t tall for his age nor bulky, Meilin could easily carry him on her back…
They should have been able to run out easily, but the day was not in their favour.
They had just turned the corner and they were ambushed by a few men…. it was chaos.
Meilin stood at the front with Xuan on her back, the royal couple in the middle of the circle and the other guards surrounding them… they were evenly matched in numbers even though there was a great disparity in strength, but still, this team had to protect three people, every merit and limit cancelled each other out.
